Listen, the legendary Jovica is gone, passed on, and now his protégé is the one calling the shots at the club.

Kendo focuses on finding that internal path. Muay Thai is about a kid landing an elbow knockout.

Judo teaches that how many times you hit the ground doesn't matter; what matters is that you get back up every single time. On the other hand, the ninjas say if you're lying down, you better not be running away. 🙂

👍 I'm speechless.

Just a simple question: is there any way I could actually hurt you or land a solid blow if you start training?

Yeah, after your very first session, you’ll probably be looking at about two weeks of recovery time...🙄

With an attitude like that, you might want to just forget about martial arts altogether.

There’s a slim chance you walk away without a single bruise, sure, but not if you're planning on taking Jiu-Jitsu or striking seriously.

And look, nobody is going to jump you just because you're a beginner, if that's what you're worried about. But discipline is real. If you start whining and slacking off after you manage five push-ups when the coach called for twenty, you might as well just stay home and save everyone the embarrassment...😎

Greetings.

I am based in Los Angeles and I am looking to enroll in a martial art. However, my "spirit" isn't particularly aligned with disciplines that rely heavily on striking and overt violence. I require something more "composed." My professional schedule also dictates that I can only attend morning sessions. After some superficial browsing, I find myself undecided between judo, kendo, or aikido...

If anyone has any meaningful recommendations, I would be grateful.

If you aren't particularly interested in brawling during training, then aikido is definitely the way to go, although I suppose even that can get somewhat intense at times.😁.

Thanks for the quick replies! Unfortunately, aikido sessions in San Diego are only available during evening slots.😢

You should really dig into some Thai Chi, Wing Chun, or even that Russian system.

Look into Tai Chi, Wing Chun, or the System (Russian style).

Unfortunately, you won't find any of these disciplines offered here in Miami.😢

I have a question 😁

After thinking it over quite a bit—really weighing my options—I’ve decided what I’m doing with my life. I’m heading to the Anan-Do Center for some Lohan Kung Fu 😍

But there’s a catch. The program doesn't kick off until October 1st. I need something to get me moving *now*—something to jumpstart my system—but I’m not talking about jogging through Central Park or rolling around in a local gym. I honestly don't have the willpower, the energy, or the patience for that right now...

So, here is my question: Is there anything in the downtown area or near the center where I could do some recreational boxing or something similar over the next two months? I need something low-key—something for someone whose muscles are basically atrophied at this point. 🙂

Greetings to everyone. I have finally decided to register today, even though I’ve been lurking and reading the posts here for quite some time now. I recently started training Muay Thai—I've been hitting the mats at Gold's Gym for a few months already—and I have to say, the experience has been absolutely phenomenal. However, a question keeps gnawing at me: how difficult is it actually to step into the ring and compete in sanctioned matches? Is the level of competition in the States truly as fierce as they say? I am fully aware that I am still a novice and that asking this so early in my journey might be premature, but I find myself wondering: could I genuinely see myself standing in that ring one day?🙂

Does anyone know of an ultimate fight club in a city like Chicago or New York? Just looking for something recreational...

Does anyone happen to know where I might find some Chi Kung classes here in the city, perhaps ideally taught by someone of Chinese descent?🙂

Greetings.

I'm based out of New York. I'm looking for some input from the group. I’m interested in getting into kickboxing; I’ve always been on the stronger, more solid side, but I haven't quite figured out how to channel that power effectively. I suspect kickboxing might be the ideal outlet for me to refine that strength.

What are your thoughts?

If you’re tall, maybe look at striking sports; if you’re shorter and more compact, wrestling might suit you better. That’s just the cliché way of looking at it, anyway. Ultimately, it all comes down to this: just train whatever you actually enjoy doing...🙂

We actually have a regular here from San Diego who’s been training kickboxing for a long time (rustyangler02), so he can probably give you some real insight...
And then there's Jacob Sullivan9, also from San Diego—he does Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, Aikido, and some heavy grip training...
Oh, and we have an enthusiast for Wing Chun too...

Which part of San Diego are you in, and how old are you? Also, what kind of training sounds good to you;
heavy contact or light contact, focusing more on hands or feet, prioritizing speed over power, or maybe going for competitive training versus just recreational—or somewhere in the middle?🙂 ?
