The power supply isn't going to cut it, which is the real issue here.

Look, I'm not expecting miracles. Doing an hour a day won't amount to much until I finally scrape together enough cash for a decent PSU.

Wait, what kind of power supply are they running and what's the actual build? I can't seem to find the original thread. Sure, it might be louder, but honestly, I'd gladly trade a little extra noise for higher FPSa. But hey, that's just my take... 🙂

Here’s the original post, or just to make it simple: the power supply is a Linkworld lpk12-30e 500 w 😬

Asus H81M-DGS R2.0. Basic board. Nothing fancy.
i3 4160
8GB of RAM. Barely enough to get by these days.

Go, go, go! That Linkworld lpk12-30e 500 w from $43 🤣... I wouldn't bet on it even if it had a 750Ti inside, no matter how little power it pulls 🙂

Not even seeing any Instar here... honestly, who gives a damn about those cheap brands anyway?

edit: No Future either—just Gainward.

Good grief.

What's the big deal? I'm not exactly running a casino here. The PSU works fine; my rig isn't going to kick the bucket in thirty minutes or an hour of daily use before I can grab a new one.

Just order it and you'll have it in a few days. Honestly, hardly anyone keeps anything in stock these days. If you managed to survive this long without a GPU, a couple more days of waiting shouldn't be an issue.

Regarding the Linkworld unit, if I recall correctly, that "600W" model delivers 23A on the +12V rail.😬

This is the only thing Best Buy has in stock.

Two different clerks already told me I'm wasting my time looking for a 750 Ti. They say why bother when the 900 series is dropping soon at basically the same price point and packs way more punch.

Is Best Buy legit?

Links is fine

This?

You could go that route, just make sure you order at the online price so you aren't overpaying for nothing. I highly doubt a gtx 950 will drop to $1000-$367; expect closer to $1300-$1400 once prices stabilize. Besides, forget about getting that card with your current power supply—it pulls well over 100w

Yeah, that's the one. Just placed the order. They're the only ones running it at this price point through their web shop.

I'm not sure if that's even the right model. It says 300W Power Supply, but this one is labeled as "500W." If it really is what it says, you're only getting 150W on the 12V rail. That's going to be cutting it way too close...

There's a reason it says 300W 😛 Since the combined 12V, 3.3V, and 5V rails add up to about 300W, though the 12V rail only provides 156W, which is what actually powers the CPU and GPU.

crimsonstag84 said:That 300W rating is there for a reason. 😛 The combined output of the 12V, 3.3V, and 5V rails hits about 300W, with the 12V rail specifically providing 156W to power the CPU and GPU.

Then why on earth are they advertising it as a Microsoft 500W unit when the label clearly says 300W?! I know companies can be shady about these things, but this is just blatant.

Smith 🤣

It’s honestly wild how difficult—practically impossible—it is to track down any actual specs for these power supplies 🤦

crimsonstag84 said:That 300W rating exists for a reason 😛 because if you combine the 12V, 3.3V, and 5V rails, you get roughly 300W total, with the 12V rail providing about 156W to power the CPU and GPU.

Adam Moore3 said:So why are they marketing it as a Microsoft 500W Power Supply when the sticker clearly says 300W?! I know companies can be shady with these numbers, but this is ridiculous.

Think of it like this: $100 from Mom plus $100 from Dad equals a $500 budget. Pure logic right there.🎉

quietpilot23, did you mention that thing in Chicago earlier?

The first time was something like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/computer-case-listing-example

It's an OEM Seasonic unit, delivering 360W on the +12V rail.

I'll snap a photo of the power supply label in about an hour. Drop your thoughts then...

750Ti paired with:

Intel Core i7-4960X @ 4.2GHz (which is a 130W TDP processor, whereas yours is only 54W) 184W during gaming total system draw.

The GPU itself click here

Look, even with a junk power supply, you technically have enough juice, but honestly? Get rid of that thing immediately for your own safety—it’s low quality. It would be ideal if you just grabbed the one I linked for you.

Hah, what a joke... they just slapped one single label on every single model they make 😂 😂 😂

Yeah, that's not really what you said it was at first 🙂 This one actually has a bit more amperage on the 12V rail. 20A is still pretty decent compared to those 13A ones 🤣
