A bit weaker, maybe by about 15-20%.

Just looked it up and realized the 370 is basically just a Pitcairn based on the HD 7850 🤦

Read somewhere earlier that it isn't a rebrand 😳

Yeah, I've got an overclocked HD 7850/R7 265 in there.

I dropped $417 on my 7850 2GB about two and a half years ago.

At today's exchange rate, $370 would be roughly $333. Still way too much.

So, here's the deal: I'm torn between picking up an r9 390 or a GTX 970. I’ll be pairing it with either an Intel Core i5 4690k or a 6600k. I haven't totally nailed down my budget yet, but honestly, it doesn't even matter much since the prices for these cards are basically neck and neck right now.

Are you looking for an AGP or a PCI-E card? PCI

What does your current or upcoming setup look like, and which power supply are you running?

Motherboard: ASRock P55M Pro (CPUSocket)

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 260

RAM: 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz

Power Supply: LC POWER Silent Giant GREEN POWER LC6650GP3 V2.3, 650W

What resolution are you playing at?

1920:1080

How much are you willing to spend?

$367If there is a truly exceptional deal out there, I might stretch my budget slightly, but I'd prefer to stay around $150.

Which retailers should we consider?

Best Buy, Micro Center

One question: does the Geforce 750 ti support DirectX 12? If it doesn't, please don't bother sending me links for it. I have the same question regarding the r7 360 ATI. Will I be able to play new releases for at least another two years?

All GCN AMD cards, specifically the HD 7xxx through Rx 3xx series, should support DirectX 12. As for Nvidia, you're looking at everything from the GTX 4xx up to the GTX 9xx range.

The GTX 750 Ti should be fine... if you want something a bit pricier and more powerful, there's also the R9 270($420) or the GTX 950(which is even $33 more expensive).

Is there any actual chance that my next GPU won't play nice with this motherboard?

Eh... You think you know what might be going on here? So, I grabbed some new parts, and the guys over at Micro Center built and tested the whole rig for me, so all I was supposed to do at home was pop in the drive and that Nvidia GTX 750 Ti mentioned above. But here’s the kicker: I’m getting absolutely nothing on the monitor. As far as I can tell, everything inside the case is spinning up and running just fine. Am I looking at a faulty GPU? It’s brand new, though... mind you, it did spend two months just sitting in its box after I bought it.

It might be best to just pop that graphics card out of its current case and test it in another PC—just to see if you actually get a signal. It’s a simple enough way to rule out whether the card itself is the culprit.

What are your thoughts on this particular model? $417, would you consider this a superior choice compared to the Nvidia GTX 750 Ti? I find it quite curious that the price listed at this retailer is significantly higher for the same card.

Why not aim even higher for the GTX 950
?
The R7 370 just doesn't offer much in terms of actual value.
Ideally, this one
would be the way to go.

I'm planning on picking up a new GPU because the fan on my old Radeon HD 5570 finally kicked the bucket. It’s one of those situations where you can't just swap the fan out—you basically have to replace the whole card. I was wondering what the best move is if I want to stay under $167?
Is there actually anything decent in that price range right now?
My motherboard is an Asus P5G4IT-M
I've been looking at this one—
What do you guys think about it?

What about the rest of the build... CPU, RAM, power supply?

I guess buying used might actually be the better move here.

A buddy of mine is running an AMD Ryzen 5, an ATI Radeon HD 6850, and an EVGA 450W PSU. He's a massive fan of The Witcher series—probably played the second one about 15 times—so we tried getting The Witcher 3 to run, but it's a struggle. He’s barely hitting 30 FPS on low settings at 1280x1024, even though he's using a 1080p monitor. Money is tight right now, so he’d have to sell his current gear to pick up something used.

Is it realistic to ask $133 for a 6850? It’s a full bundle, works perfectly, and the thermal paste has already been replaced. The cheapest one I found online is going for $167. Honestly, this seems like the only decent deal out there—Best Buy. Or maybe a 6950 for a similar price. Since they have similar power levels and the 7850 is newer, I think the 7850 is probably the better bet. I also saw an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 for $250. Is that worth it or not?

I wouldn't even bother looking $133 for an ATI Radeon HD 6850 😁. This HD 7850 is actually a solid pick for $200, though you might have to deal with some fan noise since that specific model can be a bit of a buzzbox. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 is in the same ballpark, but it's got less VRAM and pulls more power. I guess it should probably sit somewhere around $200 to really be worth it.

The Witcher 3 seems to really lean on clock speeds for AMD processors, so maybe try pushing the Front Side Bus as far as it'll go on stock voltage if you're stuck with a basic motherboard and a stock cooler.
