Man, that's a tough one. Buying the 3GB version was definitely a worse move than grabbing an RX 470. Both should really be closer to $500, but asking 1800-something is just way too much—you're basically hitting the price of an RX 580 at this point.

Forget about the RX 580—you're looking at an actual RX 580 for that price.

It’s a massive step up from a GTX 1060 3 GB.

Check out this comparison. [Link]It's the same story on all the big sites like Tom's Hardware and TechPowerUp. We're talking a massive gap here—sometimes even a 10+ FPS difference.

Man, my RX 580 is just such a power hog. It's way too much for my EVGA BR Series to handle.

YouTube benchmarks can be pretty weird sometimes.
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/..._Pulse/30.html

So basically, it performs almost exactly like a GTX 1060 3 GB but costs less. It makes way more sense for long-term use too, given the extra VRAM. Plus, AMD cards usually see performance bumps over time through drivers, whereas Nvidia tends to lose steam on older generations.

What CPU are you running? And why do you think an RX 580 would be too much for a CX500?

I've got an Intel Core i5-3570K. An RX 580 would probably push my Corsair to its limit, and I’ve been reading that the CX series isn't exactly top-tier—bad capacitors and all that. Probably wouldn't end well.

Look, the CX isn't exactly top-tier stuff, but paired with an Intel Core i5-3570K and an RTX 3060, you're looking at maybe 300W max. That Corsair unit puts out about 450W on the 12V rail, so you've got plenty of breathing room.
Honestly though, I'd go with an RX 570 over a GTX 1060 3GB any day.

I've always leaned more toward Nvidia than AMD, but this time I’d actually pick the RX 570 over the 3 GB version of the GTX 1060—mostly just because of the VRAM capacity. I mean, let's be real, with how modern games are being released lately, 3 GB of VRAM is just way too little... So, what's your take? 😁

Your power supply is more than enough for this setup.

There were three different versions of that Corsair unit; the first one was kind of meh, the second was better, and the third is actually decent. But honestly, whichever one you've got, it should handle an RX 580 with that CPU just fine.

I think someone either deleted my post from earlier this morning or it just didn't go through properly.
Anyway, I'm trying to decide between these two options.

Picking up an older card that's already four years old for $233

versus

grabbing something brand new that comes with a full 3-year warranty.

The first one is about $200$83 overpriced, and the second is just too weak.

Excuse me, $200 the first one is actually used.

Thanks for the advice, 😉

GTX 1060 vs RTX 3060 & RX 580

Basically, the RTX 3060 edges out the other three cards being tested (RX 580, GTX 1060, and that 9Gbps GTX 1060 variant) by just a few percent.
It’s 6% faster than the 9Gbps GTX 1060 when you look at the minimum FPS.

Tested across 27 different games. 😁

Do you need an AGP or a PCI-E card?
PCI-E

What’s your current or planned setup, and what kind of power supply are you running?
Intel Core i5-3570K
16GB DDR3-1600 RAM
CoolerMaster 700W RS-700-ACAB-B1
SyncMaster 2032 BW Monitor
N560GTX
ASRock Z77 Extreme 4-M

How much are you looking to spend?
I'm mainly looking for two or three solid, cost-effective graphics cards that will pair well with this CPU without causing a major bottleneck.

Which stores should I consider?
Anywhere.

Thanks.

Greetings,
I wouldn't call myself a hardware pro, but I’m certainly not a complete amateur either. Currently, I am running an Intel Core i5-3570K overclocked to 4.3 GHz paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 600 series card (900 MHz core / 1250 MHz memory / 1GB VRAM). My plan is to stream Overwatch 2 on Twitch, but here is the dilemma: my monitor is connected via DVI at 1080p, while an HDMI cable runs to my TV so I can switch over to OBS to monitor the stream quality and performance metrics (FPS, upload speeds, etc.). The moment I start streaming at 720p 60 FPS, OBS triggers a warning about excessive resource usage within one or two minutes. Everything heats up so rapidly that my CPU fan immediately kicks into maximum speed. Is the bottleneck caused by my CPU cooling, or am I simply being crippled by insufficient video memory?🙂

1. GTX 1070 - roughly $1233
2. RX 580/GTX 1060 6GB - about 2100-$767
3. RX 570 4GB

hollowwalker59

It's likely the CPU.

Why aren't you streaming using the Radeon software?

I wasn't even aware such a thing existed; I just stumbled upon it through some Twitch recommendations and decided to go with the free version of OBS. What exactly is the name of that software? I need to head over to YouTube to see some tutorials on how to actually use it properly.

Also, I should probably mention that the entire PC starts lagging—it's nothing catastrophic, but you can definitely feel the slowdown.

I’d say your CPU is likely hitting its limit. If you're running something like Outlast 2, you're already hovering right around the minimum system requirements—and that's without even accounting for the overhead of streaming.

Regarding the stream itself, assuming your GPU drivers aren't ancient (say, within the last six months or so), just hit Alt+Z while in-game to pull up the overlay menu. While OBS offers the most granular control, using the native Radeon software should be much lighter on your hardware, similar to how Nvidia's Shadowplay operates.

As for all that noise? You're definitely going to need an aftermarket CPU cooler.

I've got a Gigabyte Radeon R9 380 G1 Gaming sitting here with about two years of warranty left on it, asking $367.
Check out the listing here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/graphics-card-listing

Or honestly...

Maybe I should just grab a brand new GTX 1050 Ti 4GB for $1200 instead. For example...
