Can I ask a quick, kinda silly question? If I've got a dedicated GPU plugged in, but my motherboard has a DP port and the card doesn't, can I still use that DP port on the board? Or am I stuck switching over to an HDMI cable on the graphics card?
I'm using a Dell Monitor, so I'm mostly asking because I really want to use those built-in speakers if I can.

Not really.

Doesn't the monitor have an HDMI port?

Yeah, I get you. Honestly, I'm a bit clueless about this stuff. Is there actually any noticeable difference in picture quality between HDMI and DisplayPort?

It makes zero difference; they both carry audio if you need it.

What's the refresh rate on that monitor?

I'm sitting at 75 right now. This built-in Intel graphics just isn't cutting it anymore

I'm not sure... can I actually get a 60Hz refresh rate through the HDMI port?

Sure

You sure about that? Now I'm seeing stuff online saying otherwise. Honestly, you've got me second-guessing everything now.

I'm stuck running at 75Hz on my current setup, but:

HDMI 1.3 and higher can definitely handle 144 Hz at 1080p. Contrary to what some folks claim, HDMI isn't strictly locked at 60 Hz, even if you're working with versions older than 2.0.

That said, the monitor itself has to actually allow 144 Hz via HDMI. It’s not enough to simply plug into a laptop or a GPU that features an HDMI 1.4 or 2.0 port. You need a display designed to support that refresh rate over HDMI, and looking at the HDMI version alone won't give you that answer. Certain monitors are hard-capped at 60 Hz through their HDMI ports, regardless of whether they utilize HDMI 1.4 or 2.0. That's a hardware limitation built into the monitor, not a flaw in the HDMI standard itself.

A few monitors that can pull off 1080p at 144 Hz using HDMI include the Dell Alienware AW2423HF, the ASUS ROG Swift, and the LG UltraGear (all of which run on HDMI 1.4).

While 60Hz is often the ceiling for 4K resolution over HDMI 2.0, apparently that isn't a universal rule.

Yeah. Honestly, I think I was overthinking it. My monitor is just a basic 75Hz 1080p setup anyway, so an HDMI cable works perfectly fine for me. Plus, that EVGA 750 is more than enough considering my rig—I’ve got an i5 in there that actually handles Minecraft on medium settings without breaking a sweat. Totally fine by me.

MSI Gaming X + RTX 3060 used for about a year, comes with the receipt. Is $300 worth it? 🤷

p.s. It was used for mining....

Confirmed: 75Hz runs perfectly fine over HDMI. Couldn't push it any higher since my screen won't allow it. It doesn't show up automatically, though—you have to set it as a custom resolution. But hey, it works!

I find myself leaning toward HDMI for my setup; I have encountered several frustrating technical hiccups when attempting to use DisplayPort, even after investing in a couple of higher-end, premium cables.

Look, I’ve actually had some pretty smooth runs with the Democratic Party. My issues have mostly been with HDMI. Everything from cables hooked up to my cable box to the TV itself—it was such a mess where the menu wouldn't even show up properly with the picture. Then just yesterday, the HDMI wouldn't let me go above 60 Hz unless I went into those custom resolution settings and manually forced 1920x1080 to 75 Hz. You’d never guess it wasn't some high-end setup, right? It displays the monitor name perfectly fine, but it's stubborn about that 60 Hz limit. Once I set it manually, though, everything worked like a charm.
By the way, does anyone else here own this Palit 750 Ti card? Are they usually a bit louder, or did I just get stuck with a unit that has a slightly warped fan? It's not a huge deal, but at minimum speed, there's this low, annoying hum coming from the fan. You don't even notice it unless the house is dead silent.

Hey there... Got a quick question for you guys. I know this might be slightly off-topic for this sub, but I’m a bit lost and could really use some help here. So, right now I'm running a Radeon HD 6670, but I've got my eye on an RX 570 upgrade. The thing is, I keep hearing people say it all depends on whether the card actually fits the motherboard slot. I think I finally tracked down my motherboard model—can anyone tell me if this is going to work?
ASRock FM2A75M-DGS
I'm currently rocking a Radeon HD 6670 GDDR5 with 1GB of VRAM.
Thanks a ton in advance!

Keep in mind that the CPUs compatible with this motherboard aren't exactly powerful enough to fully push a GPU like that—though I’m hoping you’re at least running a quad-core. It doesn't matter much, though, if you're planning on upgrading your whole platform anytime soon anyway.
