Man, wouldn't that be just perfect for us... imagine if we could just go from Christmas, straight into New Year's, then Three Kings Day, and then follow it up with the Mexican New Year... but nope... 😢

If we were actually being precise about it, we’d call it the Julian calendar.
If we’re going by national identity, then I guess the right name for it would be Old Roman. Makes sense, doesn't it?

btw, why is your Easter always such a massive gap away from ours? shouldn't it be like 10-15 days after our date?

Regarding this whole 'ecumenical calendar' thing... you really have to go with the Gregorian one. And I’m not just saying that because I’m biased toward my own side or whatever; it’s simply because the Julian calendar is flawed. It loses a day every hundred years or so.
Basically... if Orthodox churches stick with the Julian calendar, Christmas is eventually going to end up landing in the middle of summer!!

The whole thing gets complicated because of how it ties into the Jewish calendar.

We could always just switch to the Milankovitch calendar since it's way more precise than the Gregorian one anyway.

Even as a Catholic, I know exactly when New Year's Day is, and I'm pretty sure he just misunderstood my point 😉. People here have started talking way too much about the Orthodox New Year, so of course he took it the wrong way!

I'm with you on this one. Plenty of different cultures celebrate the New Year using the Julian calendar, not just Mexicans. In my opinion, calling the Julian New Year "Mexican New Year" is just plain wrong.

Sure, you could, but from what I gather, that calendar is only marginally more accurate than the Gregorian system. We're talking about a difference of just one day every 2,800 years.
It’s actually pretty interesting that certain American churches have accepted his calculations without actually putting them into practice. It’s a bit of a missed opportunity; if they had, almost every Christian in the world today—aside from a few niche sects with their own specific schedules—would be celebrating the exact same holidays on the exact same day.

You're spot on, colleague—it's hard not to feel irritated when it feels like everyone is focusing on a holiday that isn't even theirs. In my experience, we usually call that kind of attitude being self-centered.
