You looking for some "old-school home remedy" for your thyroid?

Alright, listen up:

You gotta take an old hen—I'm talking at least three months and six and a half days old—and butcher her under a full moon, making sure she's facing north. Point that chicken tail south, and for heaven's sake, don't let a single drop of blood touch the ground. You rip that heart right out of her chest and toss it into three liters of whole milk, letting it soak in a warm spot for exactly 13 days.

Then, every single morning for the rest of your life, you drink about half a cup of that milk right as the sun peeks over the horizon. And don't even think about being late... if you miss the sunrise, the whole thing is useless!

Listen, folks, when are we going to finally realize that "home remedies" aren't always meant to be an alternative to professional medicine?
I mean, if you have a thyroid issue, why would you ever choose a local healer over a surgeon at a major hospital?

Nobody is forcing you to take your medication; it’s your choice, not a mandate.🙂
But one day, you might find yourself knocking on every doctor's door in town, desperate for help... and by then, it might be too late.🙂

People need to understand that following medical advice isn't just a right—it's a responsibility toward your own health.😈

Mon said:I felt it was strange to be taking medication when my lab results were perfectly normal.

Some medications exist specifically to ensure those lab results stay within the normal range.

Mon said:I honestly thought it felt weird taking all these meds when my bloodwork actually looks fine.

Right?! Exactly!

Seriously, screw these drugs—it feels like doctors are just trying to kill us all at this point!!!

If you ask me... natural selection is still a thing, and honestly? It works perfectly fine even today...

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your little suggestion just gave her exactly 60 days left to live!!!

Three liters... that's 30 servings, at half a cup a day, which equals 60 days!

Damn, man—you basically killed her faster than kidney failure would have...

😂

Three liters... that's like, roughly a gallon, so if she's doing half a liter a day—boom—60 days max!

Damn, man, you probably killed her faster than kidney failure would have!!!

😂

And honestly? You really think she’d even last more than a few days drinking milk that's been sitting out with some chicken hearts soaked in it for 13 days in the heat? No way...😈

Well, everyone here seems to be such an expert!

I dealt with thyroid issues myself.
My doctor practically forced those pills on me—I ended up gaining 40 pounds in six months—and I felt terrible. He just kept insisting I take them because "the charts say so" and that there was no way to lower the dosage.
Eventually, I went to see a different specialist. She practically threw her hands up in frustration and immediately cut my dose in half—then halved it again after that. It’s been nearly a year without medication now, and my labs are looking good.

Mon, maybe try getting a second opinion from at least one more doctor.

Back in the States, there was this whole mess where thyroid glands somehow ended up in the ground beef used for burgers, and people started dealing with some pretty weird "side effects." Honestly, don't even joke about messing with heart health—just stick to putting bovine thyroid in the meat. It’s a process 😬rustymoose54

🤣 🤣 🤣

Man, you guys are killing me with this thread. Seriously. 😁

And look, Mon: if you actually want to wrap your head around why hormone replacement therapy matters—and why taking Synthroid (or whatever they’re stocking at the local CVS) is non-negotiable—you really need to get how the thyroid actually functions. You don't need to go out and memorize a medical textbook on pathophysiology or anything, just... do a little reading. Get the basics down. Or better yet, just ask your endocrinologist (or even your primary care doctor). Maybe then you'll realize why thyroxine is such a big deal and stop thinking it's some kind of placebo or "woo-woo" remedy. Honestly, it’s a little scary when someone has zero clue about their own condition, isn't it?

John Adams4 said:Just take it because the charts say you have to and there's nothing you can do about the dosage.

I don't know what kind of "charts" you're looking at, but first and foremost, your dose has to be adjusted based on your T3, T4, and TSH levels. Have you even been getting your hormones checked regularly? And where was this happening, in the USA?

I have been monitoring them—and I still am—though I also have two benign nodules (one at 14mm and another at 6mm). Currently, I am seeing doctors in both the Netherlands, where I live, and Belgium—mostly because the healthcare there seems a bit more reliable.
The first doctor I dealt with—the one I ended up fleeing from—was Dutch.

Dennis said:Moon, you should seriously try getting a second opinion from another doctor at least.

Hold up—none of us ever told her she has to blindly follow whatever her endocrinologist says... I would absolutely never suggest something like that to anyone. She actually came here looking for a "natural thyroid cure" because she refused to take hormones—basically saying it feels stupid to take meds when her bloodwork looks fine.

I mean, obviously, seeing another specialist is necessary sometimes, and yeah, trying to nail down the right dose of Levothyroxine can be a total nightmare—I still have those dreams where I'm frantically cutting them into tiny pieces, goddammit, just trying to manage a 3/4 pill... but she isn't even talking about dosage adjustments, she's talking about completely ditching life-saving hormone replacement therapy altogether!

And sure, let's just assume we're all geniuses, right... 🥳

mon said:I was wondering if there are any natural—home remedies, I suppose—that might help support thyroid function?

There is KELPSAN, a homeopathic option from A. Vogel; it’s meant to stimulate metabolism—contains kelp algae (*Macrocystis pyrifera*)—and one tablet provides 0.2 mg of iodine.
mon said:I recently had surgery to remove a nodule from my left lobe. My current levels—T3, T4, and TSH—are all within the normal range, so I’ve decided against hormone replacement therapy, even though my endocrinologist recommended taking it indefinitely to prevent a recurrence. It seemed... counterintuitive to take medication when the lab results look fine.
Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

Surgery isn't something to trifle with—and neither is a tumor—so, I suppose I should mention again: please seek a second opinion from another endocrinologist. Just—perhaps—avoid mentioning what your current doctor suggested until you have heard their independent perspective.

If the body is capable of producing it on its own—why bother with replacements at all?
How can one possibly determine if the body is still capable of synthesizing a hormone if you haven't given it any chance to do so in the first place?
