Are you heading to the restroom more often lately? For instance, that could be the only symptom of a urinary tract infection..

I'm heading there a hundred times a day... So, it's probably that, right?

I just got my blood work back. My glucose was 7.3 on the test, and my cholesterol is right on the edge. Honestly, Iโ€™m pretty shaken up about itโ€”both my father and grandfather dealt with diabetes, so the anxiety is real. Iโ€™m heading in for more testing and a full physical next. Given these numbers, is there a high probability that I'm looking at a diabetes diagnosis?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Hey everyone, I just had my follow-up appointment with my gastroenterologist about two weeks ago, so I was wondering if someone might be willing to take a look at my lab results for me? ๐Ÿ™‚
I'm 29, and I've been dealing with some pretty rough digestive issuesโ€”mostly constipation, bloating, really loud bowel sounds, and even seeing some blood in my stool.

Calprotectin came back negative
Stool tests for parasites, bacteria, and viruses were all negative too
Fecal fat/digestion test showed some muscle and starch fibers present, but no fat droplets were found
Ferritin is 9 (normal range is 10-120)
My CBC showed a few deviations from the standard reference ranges:
Hemoglobin is 109 (normal is 119-157)
Hematocrit is 0.340 (normal is 0.356-0.470)
MCV is 79.1 (normal is 83.0-97.2)
MCH is 25.3 (normal is 27.3-33.9)
RDW is 16.6 (normal is 9.0-15.0)
Iron is 4 (normal is 8-30)
UIBC is 68 (normal is 26-59)

As for the other tests, my colonoscopy showed edema in the terminal ileum, specifically looking like PHD edematous mucosa with loose mononuclear infiltrate
The MR enterography actually came back normal, though.

Hey,

Can someone help me make sense of this liver pathology report?

Liver tissue cylinder 1.3 cm; histological structure of hepatic parenchyma is preserved. Analysis shows 6 portal spaces, one of which is widened by increased connective tissueโ€”all infiltrated with mononuclear cells. The limiting lamina is intact. Histological and histochemical staining (Mallory, Gomori, PAS, PAS-D, Rhodanine, Prussian blue, Schmorl) shows zone 3 pericentric hepatocytes with positive lipofuscin pigment; all other pigments are negative. Bile ducts are lined with regular epithelium, no stasis, no damage found. Hemosiderin and copper stains are negative.

Female, 35, enlarged liver. Viral hepatitis markers came back negative, and autoantibodies for autoimmune hepatitis were also negative.

Now, this is just me speculating here , so obviously, itโ€™s only after the gastroenterologist goes through your entire medical history, does a full physical exam, and takes your clinical history that they can give you a real opinion or recommendations.

Itโ€™s possible we're looking at terminal ileitis.
Is this just a standalone thing, or could it be the start of something more complex, maybe even Crohn disease? ๐Ÿค”

Definitely let us know what the doctor says once you've had that consultation.

Itโ€™s definitely possible we're looking at terminal ileitis.
Is this just a one-off thing, or could it maybe be the start of something more complicated, like potentially even Crohn disease? ๐Ÿค”

Please, do let us know what ends up happening once you've had that consultation with the gastroenterologist.

So, the gastroenterologist gave me a tentative diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but they want to rule out celiac disease since I've dealt with similar, though milder, symptoms since I was a kid. Because of that, I'll need to go in for celiac testing next month and get a gastroscopy done too. They did rule out Crohn and other types of IBD, though (my calprotectin came back negative both times I checked, and the MRI looked fine). If it turns out it isn't celiac, the diagnosis will likely stay as IBD, and they suggested I repeat the colonoscopy in a year just to see if there have been any changes.

Honestly, the doctor is doing a solid jobโ€”heโ€™s definitely on the right track, especially since he suggested we keep up with regular monitoring and actually flagged IBD as a possibility.

Please, keep us posted on how everything unfolds ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi,

My father just underwent surgery for stomach cancer; they removed his stomach, spleen, and gallbladder.
The biopsy found traces of carcinoma in 2 out of the 16 lymph nodes taken from the fatty tissue surrounding the stomach.
Since we're currently deciding on the next steps for treatment, he had his tumor markers checkedโ€”CEA and CA 19-9โ€”before his first appointment with the oncologist.
CEA came back at 2.55 (reference range is 0-3, though itโ€™s common for smokers to see elevated levels)
CA 19-9 was 6 (reference range is 0-37)

Can anyone tell me if these results mean he'll definitely need chemotherapy, or is there a chance they might just opt for increased monitoring or something else?

Thanks in advance

Hey,

Does anyone remember the username of that doctor who was always popping in here to answer questions? I can't for the life of me recall it and I need it ASAP. Itโ€™s not Ante Dubrikante, not velvetmoose9, and not hrvoje.dr. I totally blanked on his handle even though he helped out all the time. If anyone remembers, please let me know quickly.

Thanks a ton

Hi there,

I just finished my OGTT along with an insulin check at the 120-minute mark.

Here are the results:
Insulin at 120 min -- 123.7 mU/l

Blood Glucose (0 min) 5.2
Blood Glucose (120 min) 6.7

The lab didn't provide reference ranges for the insulin levels, and since every lab seems to use different unitsโ€”some using pmolโ€”I'm having a bit of trouble interpreting my own numbers. Does anyone know how these look? Thanks.

Confirmed JAK2 V617F mutation.
Platelet counts have been hovering between 480,000 and 570,000 over the last year.
Got some peptic/erosive gastritis.
No other symptoms or weird findings so far.

The thing thatโ€™s tripping me up is that platelets can jump up to 600,000 just because of inflammation.
Since gastritis is basically just inflammation of the stomach liningโ€”so, yeah, inflammation.

Does the fact that the JAK2 mutation is positive mean the high platelet count is actually coming from the bone marrow and that famous JAK2 gene rather than my stomach?

Is it even possible to diagnose essential thrombocythemia right now without doing a bone marrow biopsy?

Well, I went ahead and had my glucose tolerance test and an HbA1c done as well, so now Iโ€™m sitting here wondering if I actually have anything to worry about or if Iโ€™m just overthinking things:

Fasting glucose - 101 mg/dL REF: 79-115
Glucose after 2 hours - 142 mg/dL REF: 79-140

HbA1c - 5.1 % REF: 7
HbA1c - 32 mmol/mol REF: 53

Hey...

I went ahead and got a semen analysis done. Itโ€™s been bothering me occasionally while I'm typing away, and since I recently switched partners, I figured it was time for a check-up:

Here are the results:

How should I read this? Should I be worried or is it nothing?

(Urinalysis came back clean)

Thanks, cheers.

Take those results to the doctor so they can prescribe you an antibiotic.

Thanks.

Can I just ask which specific result we're talking about? Is it the sensitivity part or the white blood cell count (is 4-8 actually high)?

Thanks.

Itโ€™s both. The lab results clearly show a bacterial infectionโ€”that "sensitive" note means the antibiotic is effective against this specific strain. The white blood cell count confirms the infection is present.

Should I be worried about a low platelet count?

Mine is sitting at 117 (normal range: 158-424).

Everything else on my CBC looks fine. I actually had the bloodwork done to check my iron levels, which came back at
16 (8-30),
with a UIBC of 30 (26-59),
and hemoglobin at 152 (119-157).

For context, I also have hypothyroidism.
