Let's Be Cops (2014)

Looks like some goofy little comedy about a single plotline, but since Nick and Coach in New Girl are in it, I'll definitely give it a look 🙂

The trailer isn't half bad. Sure, it feels a little unpolished. But if they saved the actual good stuff for the movie itself, it might just pull off being a solid comedy.

After what feels like an eternity, I’ve finally stumbled upon a comedy that doesn't make me want to claw my eyes out. Up until now, I’d only counted maybe three good ones to my name—think *Silver Streak*, *29th Street*, or *My Cousin Vinny*.

I’ve grown so cynical because most comedies churned out every single year seem designed for one purpose: to fleece some naive teenager for cash. We’re constantly bombarded with these mindless, bottom-of-the-barrel productions starring the likes of Sandra Bullock, Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, or just a bunch of pathetic nobodies. But this one? This one actually stands apart.

After I spent the last few years dismissing pretty much every comedy released as absolute garbage, a female friend asked me, "Wait, do you just not like comedies?" It actually gave me pause. I had reached a point where I was convinced she was right. Well, today’s viewing officially settled that debate. The acting was sharp, the story held up, and there was this one unforgettable character—not to name names, but the cop who pulls all the strings and drags his buddy into this whole programmer mess was just brilliant. He was this delightfully reckless idiot, and honestly, he carried the whole thing.

The film managed to dodge the fatal flaw that kills about 99% of comedies: it never drags, and it never resorts to a relentless barrage of primitive, low-brow jokes. It was a genuinely, very good little comedy—like a sudden bolt of lightning in a sea of trash. 6.8/10.

Keep in mind, I rarely give any movie more than an 8, so you can do the math on how much I actually enjoyed this.

Honestly, this movie is an absolute riot. I’d say it’s easily twice as funny as Superbad, and if you haven't seen it yet, I really think you should give it a shot.

22 Jump Street is absolute garbage. Between the actors, the plot, and the jokes, nothing about it even comes close to being as funny as Superbad.

I found the movie absolutely hilarious; I couldn't stop laughing :klap:

Just gonna repost what I said in the other thread—Superbad is actually a killer movie. It’s better than the first Hangover, for sure. Honestly, I usually can't stand comedies because they feel forced and just aren't funny. But this one? It's actually legit and fun. If you're into chill, easygoing comedies, I'd say give it a shot.

Exactly. I agree with most of that, especially the bold part, but I gotta disagree on the rating. If a movie is super fun, my rating is a 5/5, which would be a 10/10 by your scale.

The movie was a pleasant surprise.

Surprisingly good movie 👍 The opening scene didn't really grab me... felt a bit like some tired, recycled gag from a pile of bad comedies... but the film picks up speed pretty quickly and the quality really starts to show... honestly can't remember the last time I laughed this hard at a movie 🙂

I caught it today, and honestly? It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. Just a totally mid movie if you ask me.

If I remember right, it definitely falls into the "pretty good" category.

I’m not really much of a comedy watcher myself, mostly because most of them just aren't funny; in fact, they’re often so grating that I find myself giving up on them after only a few minutes. It’s actually quite a shock to see a film like this, though—a genuine testament to the fact that you can pull off something solid even when working with relatively unknown actors. It isn't exactly a cinematic masterpiece, but given the absolute tidal wave of garbage currently flooding the market, that alone raises its value significantly. Honestly, this is the first comedy I've watched that was actually worth my time since Superbad.

I guess it would've been better if the senior Wayans had been the one acting like an idiot at Burger King—his son is just way too soft for my taste.
But honestly, all things considered, it’s a pretty solid comedy.

It’s a classic pattern with these kinds of movies—you get all the funniest, most engaging scenes packed into the first half, but then the second half just drags on—and honestly, you find yourself just counting down the minutes until it's finally over.

The film is actually quite good. Honestly, leaning into political incorrectness is the only way forward these days! 😁

The ending—specifically those action sequences toward the finish—is just filler. Totally unnecessary.

I'd give it a seven out of ten.

I made it about thirty minutes in before I turned it off. Maybe I'll revisit it when there’s nothing else on. (There’s always something else on.) Not worth the time.

And don't even get me started on the tension. One minute they're acting totally fearless facing down five criminals, then later, when he's finally alone with just one, that's when the reality of how dangerous things actually are finally sinks in.
