Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a dermatologist in NYC? Specifically looking for someone who can actually do a thorough scalp exam.

Hi ladies, I’m looking for a solid endocrinologist in Washington, D.C.—ideally one who specializes in ovarian cysts and hair loss—who accepts Medicare if possible.

My gynecologist referred me because I’ve dealt with missed periods and excessive hair thinning for over two years now...

Thanks.

There is a separate thread specifically for dentists: please check here and leave your comments regarding that topic there instead of on this thread.

Prof. Nadan Rustemović from Mayo Clinic also saw me privately at Bates. Honestly, he’s the finest gastroenterologist I’ve ever encountered—dedicated, composed, thorough with explanations, and highly skilled. He was originally recommended to me for a second opinion, and after cycling through countless other specialists... I’ve stuck with him to this day.

Hey there,

So, I think I’ve picked up some kind of STI or just some absolute demon of an infection, and I need to get checked out ASAP to figure out what's actually going on. I'm thinking maybe it's a fungal thing or candidiasis—I’ve been dealing with occasional discharge, redness on the glans and underneath, and even some minor cracking of the skin... It's a mess. To make things worse, about two or three weeks ago, I saw traces of blood in my ejaculate a couple of times, which totally freaked me out, though it hasn't happened again since then. On top of all this, the last five months have been a total nightmare—insane stress levels, barely any sleep, work piling up, and I recently split with the girl I was living with. Plus, I’ve got an autoimmune condition, so I’ve been on immunosuppressants for about a year and a half now. As far as sexual history goes, I've only been with my ex for the last three years, and we weren't using condoms. Since we stayed on good terms, she told me she went to her gynecologist recently and everything came back 100% clean.

Anyway, like the title says, does anyone know a solid clinic or a private doctor in Washington, D.C. where you don't have to deal with massive waitlists? I just want to be able to book an appointment, show up, pay the fee, and get it handled.

Also, if anyone here has actually gone through this, can you give me a heads-up on what the prices look like for swabs and bacterial testing, and basically what the whole process involves?

I'm looking for a solid endocrinologist specializing in thyroid issues here in Washington, D.C. I don't mind if it's a private practice or through my insurance, honestly—as long as they're a sharp diagnostician. Thanks so much!!!

I'm looking for some recommendations for a top-tier ophthalmologist. I've heard through the grapevine that this group might be quite good
http://www.bilicvision.com/

Has anyone here actually been there and had an experience they could share?

I need to head in for some urodynamics testing soon, so I am reaching out for recommendations regarding a solid urologist—or perhaps a specialized clinic. Where should I even begin looking? I am open to both major hospitals and private practices. Also, does anyone have a rough idea of what the cost looks like if I opt for a private provider?

The real issue here is that I struggle quite a bit with anxiety—it’s a significant factor for me—and I fear this won't go smoothly without causing me some serious distress. I fully realize this is a necessary step, but there is a very real possibility that I might end up bolting from the testing or breaking down in tears mid-procedure.

I recently went in for a standard checkup at the Cleveland Clinic, and honestly, the chaos at the reception desk was just overwhelming. Does anyone know if other hospitals are any better? I truly cannot fathom returning to a place like that while dealing with a full bladder. 😢 To make matters worse, when I asked my doctor if I would need a catheterization—specifically thinking about a cystoscopy—she assured me, "Oh, nooo, that won't be necessary for you." I felt such a massive wave of relief and assumed I was just going in for a uroflow test, only for her to write down "urodynamics testing" on my chart instead! I nearly fainted when the staff at the front desk informed me that this particular procedure is invasive.

It really left me with the impression that the communication between the nursing staff and the doctors at the Cleveland Clinic isn't exactly seamless.

Thank you so much.

I really need to see an orthopedist because my ACL is acting up. I got my referral and headed over to the ER, but they told me the earliest appointment they could get me is in October or November! I absolutely cannot wait that long. Does anyone have a recommendation for a private specialist in the Washington, D.C. area? Thanks! 🙂

Has anyone here had any direct experience with them?

I came across a list ranking the top 16 clinics in the US, and it claims that the premier facility for ophthalmology in our region is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located on Vinogradska in Washington, D.C.
It even goes so far as to state they are the leaders in pediatric ophthalmology.

Does anyone here know which clinic offers the absolute best reconstructive leg surgery in the US?
Word on the street is that Johns Hopkins Hospital is the top choice
, and I actually saw footage on their website of a heel reconstruction they performed that looked absolutely flawless. A friend of mine, who works as a technician over at Cleveland Clinic, suggested I look into them. He mentioned he heard they’re the premier option for leg issues, though apparently, you’d head to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital if you were dealing with neck or head problems??!
The situation is this: I live in Miami and have been living with a 100% disability since birth. On June 18th, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, I had an atheroma cleaned out on my left lower leg by the Chief of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Zdravko roj. Since the wound is still open, I sought his opinion yesterday; he told me that further surgery is mandatory, though he hasn't decided yet whether he'll operate on me next week. To be honest, I walked away with the impression—though I could be entirely mistaken—that he’s actually hesitant to perform the procedure because he views it as too high-risk.
If he decides to pass on my case, who should I turn to? Should I make the trip to Johns Hopkins, or is there a better alternative where I can get my leg fixed once and for all and finally put this issue behind me?
Then again, maybe he’ll provide a referral, though I find myself skeptical. He is a "primarijus," after all, and he certainly didn't spend years specializing at two different California universities for nothing, right?!
That is why your insights on this forum mean so much to me, as I am hoping there might be someone here with similar experiences who can offer some guidance.
Thank you all in advance for your help.

Does anyone know what happens when you switch doctors?
In my case, it’s my OB-GYN...
Can I just show up and ask to take my medical records with me??
Like, is he actually required to give them to me? Or is there some rule saying he can't hand them over?

Basically, I don't have any other doctor right now because nobody will take me on—they all say I already have "my" doctor assigned...
I haven't seen him in 7 years, and honestly, I don't want to go back because he was incredibly rude...
How do I get my files out so I can finally move to a new provider? No one wants to deal with the headache of switching me over!

I'm not entirely sure how things work these days, but I guess it used to be that you’d pick a new doctor first and then they'd just handle sending your records over to them. Maybe that's still the case, or maybe something changed. I don't know.

Of course you can switch doctors; the main thing is ensuring the new one actually has an opening. They all operate under certain patient quotas. You just head over to the new physician, tell them you want to transfer, fill out the necessary paperwork, and they handle the rest. If you're having trouble finding someone willing to take you on, check with Medicare—they track patient loads and know exactly who has space to accept new patients.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good psychiatrist in Chicago? I don't really care if they work at a local clinic, one of the big hospitals, or in private practice—as long as the wait isn't forever... I'm looking for the doctor's name, their office hours, where they're located, and the cost if it's private, because the websites out there are useless and don't list any of that info. You can also just shoot me a PM! Thanks!!

Does anyone happen to know if Dr. Duska Glavas, the cardiologist, takes private patients anywhere in Miami?
