And to make matters worse, I was foolish enough to toss the shipping receipt in the trash. I guess now I can just... 😢

There might be a way to handle this
Ask the recipient to reach out to their local USPS office to get the tracking number; once you have that, verifying the payment should be a breeze. (It’s an internal process where they log the shipment number against the payment ID, which is how your funds get released)
Or, you could try doing it yourself. Usually, they're pretty helpful—they don't love getting formal complaints, so they tend to go the extra mile to fix things if you approach them nicely.

Chris Reed45 said:I agree. It isn't the mail carrier's fault. It’s the people receiving the packages and passing them along that are the problem.

One day I sent a package to myself just to test the system. It arrived today without any issues.
The USPS is doing its job perfectly fine. The issue is that those specific people never actually sent me anything in the first place.
Great. Now I can finally receive things at home knowing they'll actually show up, instead of constantly checking the tracking numbers to see if they even exist.🙂

Is there any way someone could ship me a laptop from the States without me getting hit with customs fees?

I have a question here, and frankly, it’s becoming quite urgent, so I would appreciate it if anyone with some insight could weigh in and help me out
I wasn't home this morning, but I was fully aware that an important delivery was scheduled to arrive today—it's one of those packages you just can't miss. Since I was at work, I naturally assumed the USPS carrier would leave one of those standard yellow slips in my mailbox. Well, sure enough, when I finally got home, there it was: a yellow slip addressed to me. I didn't waste any time; I headed straight down to the local Post Office to pick it up while I had the chance. However, the clerk at the counter informed me that while my package has indeed arrived, the notice states the pickup window is only five days—and that period doesn't actually begin until June 16th. Which means, according to their records, it officially "starts" tomorrow. I just stood there staring at her, completely bewildered, before walking out. It makes absolutely zero sense to me—how is it possible that I am somehow barred from collecting my own property today, yet they are technically holding it starting tomorrow? Is it even possible that the mail carrier simply botched the date on the slip, perhaps thinking today was already the 16th instead of the 15th?

Honestly, back when I lived in my old neighborhood, I didn't even need a mountain of paperwork just to check if my mail had arrived—I could just walk in, ask, and if something was there, they’d hand it over right then and there. Now? Apparently, I’m expected to swing by to pick up my package starting tomorrow... except I can't make it tomorrow. In fact, I probably won't be able to make it the day after either, and as for the rest of the week, who knows. It’s completely nonsensical—they make it so unnecessarily complicated, whereas at my old local spot, things actually worked. 😢 😢

Maybe the mail carrier still had the package, or perhaps they didn't mark it as returned
It really depends on the local post office; some places deliver it the same day, while others take until tomorrow

I’m not sure which part of the country you’re in, but if you live in a larger area with multiple branches, there’s usually one central hub. If your local branch is just a satellite office, the mail carrier often has to send all the packages back to the main distribution center first, and they don't get sent out to the local branches until later in the evening. That’s probably why you can't pick up your package yet—it hasn't actually reached your specific post office. At least, that's how it works in my neck of the woods...

I’m right here, and I even checked the main thread—the one I frequent constantly—where it explicitly states that pickup is scheduled from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. BUT THAT STARTS TOMORROW. Hmm. Should I really bother heading back there at 5:00 PM just to ask the same question all over again??

I don't get why I can't pick up my own package today when they already have it sitting right there. Maybe the carrier messed up the date and thought today was the 16th instead of the 15th?

You couldn't pick it up because the mail carrier hasn't returned to the station yet.
I know because it happened to me. You can't grab it the same day because they haven't processed the return trip.
It won't be ready until tomorrow.

And maybe they'll head back by 5:30 PM? Either way, I’d just go ahead and check—I honestly have no idea what my schedule looks like for the rest of the week, though I should be able to make it work later on.

I went ahead and checked her name, and she handed it over to me... though honestly, it probably wouldn't have helped if she had seen the date—not that it matters now. Regardless, the issue is finally resolved. Thanks to everyone for the input.

Hi everyone 🙂 I was wondering if anyone could lend me a hand... What would be the most straightforward way to ship some items through the mail (specifically leggings and shoes)? 🙂 I’m already familiar with cash-on-delivery options, but is there a more budget-friendly alternative out there? Also, what kind of supplies or steps should I prepare for? Thanks in advance! 🙂

You just toss it in a box, wrap it up in white paper, and send it off via certified mail😉

I just ordered something via COD (cash on delivery).
I’m a little worried it might show up before I get home. Can my roommates at the apartment just skip paying for it and tell the driver to leave it at the local Post Office instead? Also, how long will they actually hold onto it there before they send it back?

I'm a little worried it might show up while I'm out running errands. Can my roommates just "refuse" the package so they don't have to pay for it, and then I can just pick it up at the local Post Office later? Also, how long does it actually sit there waiting for me before they send it back?

Just be careful about using the word "refusing" it—you don't want the mail carrier marking it down as a "failed delivery."
It’s better if they just tell them you'll come grab it from the station yourself.
Usually, the package will wait for you for 5 business days once you get the notification.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking too! If they're saying I can just go ahead and pick it up myself, then we're golden. Thanks a ton! 👍 🙂

Hey, quick question if I haven't already asked this... sorry if I missed it, I haven't read through everything yet.
Basically, I need to ship a package over to Mexico, and I'm totally lost on how the shipping works. But honestly, my biggest headache is figuring out how to actually get the money paid back into my account from over there. Like, what's the deal? Registered mail is out of the question because apparently they have to open the package right at the counter during drop-off, and they won't take any cash. Western Union is just way too expensive. How are you guys handling this? It’s my first time dealing with this whole mess, so I’d really appreciate any info you can throw my way. Thanks everyone!🙂

I need some help here.
What’s the best way to ship a table and two chairs from Indianapolis to Seattle?

Thanks!!!!

P.S. FedEx won't touch it because the dimensions are just too big.

Maybe consider checking out some other carriers too, like FedEx, UPS, or whatever else is running in the area...
