That’s the whole kit and caboodle. Why bother with this devilish nonsense—these drunken vultures who dress themselves up like cheap starlets just to poison your spirit by playing on your misplaced sense of machismo? Honestly, wouldn't it be better to just go have a long talk with your local priest?

If I’m reading the room correctly, we’re witnessing a civil war between Thompson’s folk phase and his metal phase.

I noticed someone from this PDF group is using this album cover as their avatar, so they can probably vouch for how wonderful this genre is:

Your mandatory reading list starts with Psychocandy by the Jesus and Mary Chain (don't screw it up by listening to Darklands—that album is pretty mediocre), then move on to Slowdive, Ride, and Cocteau Twins, and just let the music take you wherever it wants to go.

Not even gonna click the link—is it MBV - Loveless?

The path Thompson is taking is the same one being trodden by the fans of the LA Dodgers. Robert Torres is poking a little fun at us, but honestly, someone like Madrono—who prioritizes flashiness and has an insatiable hunger for the big leagues—is miles ahead of where we stand right now.

It’s quite a journey, isn't it? To watch the evolution from that gritty, long-haired heavy metalhead, known only in his small hometown and obsessed with primitive displays of machismo like leather jackets and motorcycles, to this polished, gelled-up superstar who hosts events in ridiculously expensive venues and moves massive amounts of merch, all while never truly shedding those old-school, aggressive roots that made him a force in the scene to begin with.

The day is coming...

🤣

Man, Loveless is absolute perfection. The first time I heard it, I was hooked, and I immediately went back for round two.

Look, I don't know if my opinion carries much weight here, but my all-time favorites include stuff from Fleetwood Mac, The Flaming Lips, Norah Jones, Portishead, The Gaslight Anthem, Air, and just a whole bunch of other stuff—it's a massive list.😬

But honestly? I don't think I've spun anything more times than R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People.😁

I can't help but wonder what might have happened to his career if, back in those early days, he’d decided to pack a Heckler or maybe an Uzi instead of sticking with that Thompson... it really makes you think about how much things could have shifted...

Thinking with that much consumerist logic? You clearly swallowed some marketing bullshit—specifically that capitalist "visionary" crap from a guy like Elon Musk. Besides, it’s hard to lecture people about toxic masculinity when you’ve got Paul Sanders5 on a pedestal. Sure, it's easy to complain, but harder to actually make a point. Still, gotta hand it to you, brave attempt. ☕

The first part of this post is just pure, repetitive elitism. Apparently, everything you need in life is tucked away in our resident forum snob's pocket. 🙏

I’m not big on prog rock, but I don't mind seeing some Krautrock flirtation with it. Honestly, if you can even call it that, Krautrock is pretty much the only subgenre of prog I can stand.

My values are worth more than 🙂

Ever since you started eating papaya, you haven't been quite yourself, have you?

The idea that someone chooses one option over another just because they want more isn't really about consumerism; it’s much deeper than that, rooted firmly in psychology. If you decide to walk up to a checkout counter where the cashier happens to be a bit more pleasant, does that truly make you a mindless consumer? Or is it just human nature?

Then again, I suppose you’d prefer the grumpy clerk at the other register—I assume you take your cues from the DM, don't you? 🤦

You said they play on our need for machismo, which—maybe without realizing it—suggests this is a product being sold to us. And we, like any other product, swallowed it for psychological reasons. So, what was your psychological reason for swallowing the Ramos thing just so a handful of people could "accuse" him of acting tough by listening to some BM album once in a while?

So, Ramos is the "hotter cashier" in this analogy, I guess? 🤦

"I root for the Pep and now I'm not myself." Look, I already mentioned yesterday and the day before that you're being incredibly biased about this. A guy praises the Pep once and suddenly you can't agree with anything else he says. It's absurd. If I hadn't lived it, I wouldn't believe it. 🤦

Maybe it's just a coincidence and you happen to disagree with everything right now—it doesn't *have* to be anything (God forbid!)—but it's weird. If you really disagree, why haven't you just ignored my points? Instead, you're just going out of your way to troll every single thing I say. I'm not complaining, just observing. I'm not looking for your approval, but based on how things used to be, you'd usually just troll each other over random stuff. From what I remember, you never used to troll me just because we disagreed. Now it's just contra by default. Doesn't bother me, seriously. Just stating the fact that ever since I praised the Pep, you've been purely subjective toward everything I say. 🙂

It’s much like the prestige associated with a brand like the New York Yankees—an institution that carries a certain weight and history wherever they go.😁

I had that a few days ago. 😁 It’s a solid list; you basically hit all the heavy hitters. I guess I’d also throw in Spacemen 3, Brian Jonestown Massacre (Methodrone) Lush and Catherine Wheel. You could even count The Verve's first album as a decent pick, since most people only remember them as a Britpop band. Though, personally, nothing really compares to Loveless—it's easily one of the best and most unique albums ever made. 🙏 Hopefully we get to see them perform somewhere near the US soon.

I don't think I've ever actually seen anything besides "Bitter Symphony" play on MTV during their whole run.
Pretty useless band, I guess.

The Rolling Stones:
You basically lifted our song for your big hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony." How about a cut of the royalties?

The Verve:
Who do you think you are? You aren't getting a dime.

The Rolling Stones:
Come on, let's be reasonable. A percentage. We can work out a number.

The Verve:
Get lost. We aren't giving you anything. What are you going to do about it?

The Rolling Stones:
Fine.

Suds:
Every cent earned from "Bitter Sweet Symphony" should land straight in the Stones' bank account.

LOL

Just so everyone is on the same page regarding what we're discussing here:

Honestly? To my ears, Bittersweet sounds like a blatant rip-off.

Just wanted to share what we're looking at here:

To be honest, "Bittersweet" sounds like a blatant rip-off to me.

The comments under the video say it all:
"cool I found the karaoke track for bittersweet symphony".

"This is the first time I’ve heard this. I knew The Verve had borrowed from this song, but not to this degree—it's virtually identical... Mr. Ashcroft, you absolute fool!!"
