You really went all out on that black metal track, didn't you? Honestly, what a heavy hit. 🤣

In my experience, most people who dig this kind of music—and other subgenres of metal, if we're being specific—aren't actually miserable. If anything, they’re usually some of the funniest, most chill people you'll meet.
Hey steelharbor9, if you ever run into Ode, he can back me up. We have a mutual friend who is a total grouch, a real piece of work, but seriously, no shade intended😁—most people aren't even like that.
Maybe it's because they listen to a mix of everything. Or maybe those heavy emotions really do dominate when you're a teen, but who knows? Back then, I wasn't hanging out with the crowd that listened to this, or maybe we just didn't own up to it.😁

Punk, metal, and essentially everything born from the lineage of good old-fashioned rock.
It’s been this way since the era of those classic rock ballads.
Take Dylan’s "Knocking on Heaven's Door," where the man is lamenting his impending death because he can no longer kill. Or "Sympathy for the Devil," "Midnight Rambler," Neil Young's "Crime in the City"... the list goes on forever.
Then there is Leonard Cohen. The man has a song detailing how he’ll hunt down the dealers who sold drugs to his girlfriend after she overdosed. He describes her passing with startlingly vivid detail. He even has a cheerful little biblical tune about a father drowning his son on a hillside. Good grief. He even has a collection titled *Flowers for Hitler*.
Broadly speaking, everyone is just trying to shock the system and grab attention.
Naturally, some possess more substance (Cohen, for instance), while others fall somewhat short of the mark.

I actually caught one of their shows once; the energy is pretty wild, but I could never bring myself to blast them at home. Same thing goes for Queen, honestly. I don't really get the cult following. The vocals are killer, sure, but the actual music? Nothing special, I guess.
It’s clearly more about the persona. Once the frontman passes away, suddenly the band becomes legendary.
Walter Grant, I’ve watched those documentaries...
"Global Metal" and "Metal Journey"?

For me, I still find myself blasting a power metal album every couple of months, even though stylistically it's mostly garbage. I just feel like it sometimes! And before or after that, I'll go straight to Aretha Franklin or maybe some classic rock, I have no clue🤷

no joke, thanks.
it’s wild how people can obsess over all the negativity in Game of Thrones and call it epic, but then look at someone listening to black metal like they're crazy. or even jazz—you always get that crowd acting shocked because someone actually listens to jazz😲 the way😲
God...🤦

Look, guys, if you didn't know, we're talking about the damn pioneers here—the actual architects of entire genres and subgenres, in case you were oblivious.
They just don't get it. They have zero clue what people actually see or hear when they listen to them. 🙂
Man, there’s just nothing left in this world. ☕

Matthew Young35 said:If you're aiming that at me, you missed the mark. I love AC/DC. I'm not much for Queen, but I can certainly understand why people gravitate toward them.
Just because I enjoy AC/DC doesn't mean I think their lyrics are profound.
Peter Thompson4 said:Why does everyone feel the need to have the exact same damn taste in everything?! It’s exhausting.
I can't even begin to wrap my head around how people actually function when they're living like mindless drones in some dystopian hive-mind nightmare, honestly! It’s just one massive, soul-crushing wave of conformity where nobody thinks for themselves and everyone just follows orders like they're programmed by a glitchy computer.
Patrick Martin said:And honestly, who even decided that hard rock has to have these heavy, profound lyrics anyway? Like, since when?
Nancy Sanchez31 said:Well, nobody actually said that, I guess. 😁 My point was just that AC/DC has pretty shallow lyrics—which I love, by the way—and I don't really see much difference when it comes to Queen. Just my two cents, I suppose.
