Just finished a book, set it aside, and flipped on the TV to catch the Oscars. Chris Rock is up there cracking jokes, and sitting just a few feet away are Will Smith and his wife. Chris drops a punchline about her, and at first, Will is laughing along with her—even if she’s wearing a bit of a forced smile. Then, out of nowhere, Will stands up, slaps Chris, and walks right back to his seat. Chris looks completely stunned, but he handles it like a pro while Will is swearing his head off in front of a massive audience. I honestly thought the whole thing was staged, but it definitely wasn't. You could see Denzel and Cooper trying to step in and calm him down.

Man, what a killer island for a getaway. It’s about an hour's ferry ride from Miami—but honestly, feels like a totally different world... Perfect if you're into diving or just need a spot to finally chill out. They've even got that famous blue cave there. Though, I gotta say, the locals are pretty old—I don't think I've ever seen so many people in their 80s or 90s anywhere else...
If you're single and looking for a good time, you definitely won't find it there—seriously... There are way better islands and spots out there if you actually want some fun...

Back in the mid-90s, I used to stay up late watching the David Letterman show live on some cable channel over in Europe 🤔. One night, Sean Penn was the guest. Letterman is chatting him up—Sean’s being his usual cool, composed self—and suddenly Dave asks him about hanging out with Nicholson. Apparently, they were close enough to hit the town together. He asks how women react when they see the two of them out together, if they approach them and all that. Sean tells this story about how a woman once approached Nicholson and asked if he’d like to dance with her. Nicholson just looks at her and says: Wrong verb.

That stuck with me. I find myself thinking of that answer whenever someone asks me to do something I just don't feel like doing... 😬

I'm not quite sure the Academy would really put on a staged sketch featuring two Black men fighting on stage, especially with all that aggressive swearing, in a country where certain words are such huge social taboos. Plus, with everything happening globally regarding war and aggression, it seems odd to have this kind of stunt at the Oscars—unless maybe Rock and Smith are secretly on some foreign government's payroll. I guess I'll leave a tiny 1% chance that it was scripted, but probably not more than that. If it wasn't fake, though, I can't say I'm surprised; Will Smith has been giving off a bit of a negative vibe lately. It all feels somewhat surreal to me, both in the moments leading up to the impact and in the immediate aftermath.

The guy's got a legendary face. Morgan Freeman actually told a similar story on Letterman about how wild nights out with him could get. He mentioned a time there was some chaos on a movie set, everyone was being called in to rush back, and people were gossiping everywhere. Freeman started to bolt, and Jack just told him, "Don't run. They'll know we're late." 🤣



Honestly, one of the best speeches ever. He rarely makes public appearances, which only adds to that sense of mystique surrounding him.

The strike is incredibly bizarre. You can’t even see the fist making contact with the face; there is absolutely no impact visible. After this supposed blow, Chris just stood there perfectly calm, acting as if nothing had happened at all. He wasn't even slightly dazed, which would be the logical reaction if someone were to suddenly catch you off guard with a punch to the face. The entire scene feels like a rehearsed performance.
Jade wasn't cheating on Will. They have an agreement regarding an open marriage. Both of them are free to see other people sexually. Will also sleeps with other women.

I mean, once you see that meltdown from Smith later on—and seeing how Denzel and the rest of the crew are trying to calm him down—I just don't see how anyone could claim the whole thing was staged. He’s not quite that good an actor 😬

Why would they even bother faking it? They haven't gotten along for years, and looking at the YouTube comments, I guess almost nobody actually thinks it was staged. It seems like 99% of people just think Will Smith lost his cool, while maybe the other 1% are trying to defend him. I mean, what would be the actual motivation for someone fighting for their first Oscar after a 30-year career to pretend to the whole world that they're just some violent, unhinged guy? This isn't an MTV Awards show or something like Jackass. For a long time, the Oscars have been this major platform where Black actors fight for representation in Hollywood and society at large. So, does it really seem likely that two prominent Black stars would coordinate a sketch where one mocks the other, only for the second guy to storm the stage in front of hundreds of millions of viewers and aggressively assault him with insults? It doesn't really feel like a sketch, and I doubt the Academy would ever approve something like that. If he had walked up and done something silly like pulling down Rock's pants so they could all laugh together, maybe that would have felt like a sketch. As it stands, it just looks like someone who might have had a bit too much to drink and lost their head.

He was also out there making noise about the Oscar boycott because there weren't enough Black nominees.

Your idea of a sketch promoting equality is quite interesting; Black performers stripping on stage while white audiences laugh.

Why isn't anyone here discussing the actual impact of that blow? These actors rehearse their fight choreography with such blistering speed and convincing intensity that you’d genuinely believe they were trading real punches. If a guy actually took a fist to the skull out of nowhere, he wouldn't be sitting there looking that calm and composed. Honestly, given how much they seem to despise the producers behind the scenes, it might have been a brilliant move to channel that resentment into a realistic stunt like that. Regardless of whether it was scripted or not, I can't find it in myself to root against Will. His performance in *Beauty and the Beast* completely won me over, and I've been a devoted fan ever since. I swear, I tear up like a total baby every single time I watch that movie. Starting this year, it’s going to be even harder for me to sit through it. He is a truly phenomenal actor.
