I’m also looking for an x800 graphics card in the $300 to $450 range.😂

Just putting this here so I don't start a whole new thread:
I'm running into a bit of an issue while trying to overclock my Intel Core 2 Duo E4400. It seems like as soon as I bump the frequency up just a little—say from 2.0 to 2.3—the computer just freezes up on me after about three minutes. I've been trying to nudge the Intel up in small increments through the BIOS, but I guess it ends up being the same story every single time...😢

The temperatures seem to be staying pretty "normal," I suppose....

Is it possible that the memory just isn't able to keep pace with the processor?
Just out of curiosity, what speed is your RAM currently running at?

I don't think that's it, since I usually keep the memory around 700-750... I never really push it past that.

I’m thinking about overclocking my RAM. Right now, CPU-Z shows it's running at 166 MHz. I was looking to bump that up to 200 MHz in the BIOS, but I'm a bit hesitant—does anyone know what actually happens if the RAM starts overheating? Also, does anyone know of a decent program for monitoring RAM temperatures?

That speed shown in CPU-Z needs to be multiplied by two.

If they overheat, they will obviously fail, but that shouldn't happen unless you start pushing some crazy voltage without any cooling.

As for a monitoring tool, you can just use your own finger as a tester.😁

Edward Peterson70 said:that speed you see in CPU-Z is just double what it actually is.

If they overheat, they die, obviously. But that won't happen unless you start pushing some insane voltage without any decent cooling involved.

The software you're using for measurement is basically just finger testing 😁

I don't really get this whole CPU-Z thing—what do you mean by "x2" speed??? Mine are running at 166, and I can only crank them up to 200 in the BIOS. And regarding the cooling... I don't even have anything keeping my shoulder cool.

Your RAM is running at 333MHz

Try feeling the chassis with your hand to see if it's getting hot.

I know what you mean, I can feel it too, but honestly, I don't have anything here to cool my shoulder down, and right now my shoulders are just running at 200MHz

Hey everyone...
Here’s my current setup...

Intel Pentium 4
Foxconn Winfast 250GB
1.5 GB DDR1 Kingmax
ATI 1950 Pro 256 MB

I'm trying to overclock my CPU, but every time I bump up the frequency and run 3DMark 05, I get a blue screen or the whole system just freezes... any idea why??
I haven't touched the voltage yet, just the frequency...

I'm definitely not an expert at overclocking, so if anyone who actually knows what they're doing could give me a hand... thanks.

I was wondering if it’s actually worth bumping up the clock speeds on my NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT—just by that standard 10% margin you can tweak in the control panel

Is there much risk of overheating? I mean, temps are already hitting around 80 degrees when I'm running newer games, and I don't want to fry anything. Also, is this kind of "noob" overclocking even going to make a noticeable difference in performance???

thanks

Eighty degrees is just way too high. Honestly. How much heat are we talking about? What kind of graphics card are you running? I’d bet anything that some dust has managed to settle on your fan. It happens to the best of us.

Temperature? What’s the error code on the Blue Screen?

Don't bother overclocking... won't be worth the effort. Try cooling the card down at stock settings first.

It is likely that the memory is holding you back—try reducing the multiplier.
Alternatively, the CPU might not be receiving enough power, making it unstable—you may need to increase the voltage.

Is that because of what Taipanov said? 🙂

Do you think a better board would allow for even more headroom?

Do you actually believe a better motherboard would squeeze out more performance?

I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect it's because it's an mATX build, and frankly, those small factor boards are usually absolute garbage compared to full ATX options. 😉

I am certain that better cooling would make a difference too, so I’ll likely just go ahead and order the Katana case now.
