Roger Wright94's insane results 🙂

Wait, if I recall correctly, you're running that TR ultra, right? It can definitely handle 1.5V, though personally, I’ve always been a bit of a purist when it comes to voltage... I don't really believe in pushing a processor unnecessarily hard at 24/7 levels above 1.45V. My philosophy is more about being tactical—you crank up the juice when you actually need the performance, but then when things settle down, just drop it back to 1.3V and you'll have 3GHz sitting there waiting for you whenever you want it 🙂

Don't you have the TR Ultra if I remember correctly? You can run it at 1.5V, though personally, I'm against pushing a CPU past 1.45V constantly. It’s better to bump it up when you actually need the juice... then just drop it back to 1.3V for a steady 3GHz whenever you're idling 🙂

Yeah, the TR is definitely yours. (Had to swap it out again, unfortunately)
3 GHz feels a little low for me. You're right about that last part, but once I get this thing set up, I don't want to be messing with it anymore.
I'll try setting it to 1.45 and see how fast it climbs.

I used to think my RAM was the bottleneck, but clearly, it was just a subpar Motherboard implementation.
My situation is a perfect example of how much of a lottery overclocking really is. (But you've gotta make the most of it if you hit the jackpot on things you can't even control 😁 )

As long as you can keep those temperatures sitting comfortably under 70 degrees during a full heavy load... you might actually be able to hold that voltage steady at 1.6V 🙂 I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? He’ll probably burn out in four years anyway, so why worry about whether it lasts thirteen... it’s not like he needs it to run forever... 🙂

Honestly, 1.5V isn't even pushing it for a cooler like that.

So, I've got a question for you guys
just picked up a new rig
with a Gigabyte P35 DS3R motherboard
running a Core 2 Duo 4500 at 2.2GHz

The thing is, CPU-Z is showing me 1200MHz with a 6x multiplier
but everything looks totally normal in the BIOS—showing 200x11
Is CPU-Z just giving me bad info here?

I actually tried bumping it up to 210x11 in the BIOS
but CPU-Z is still just sitting there telling me 1206x6

What a complete and utter disaster of an overclock

Now we’re getting into some seriously heavy threats here

@Nino... You might want to try disabling both C1E and EIST just to see if that helps things stabilize...

Is it actually possible to overclock an Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz Northwood?

What do you guys think about this cooler? Is it actually worth the money?

http://www.thermaltake.com/product/C...1.asp#overview

or maybe I should just go with a big Noctua instead.

I mean, up to what point? I've actually got a pair of 300w units sitting right here

Nick doesn't know how far he can push it. You have to test the limits yourself, because everyone hits them differently.😉

I managed to bump my Pentium 4 from 2.6 GHz up to 3.4 GHz, and honestly, I haven't run into a single issue—no overheating problems or anything like that either

Here’s what I’ve got sitting on my desk right now....

I figured I should make this its own separate thread, mostly because I’m still a little skeptical about whether the whole thing is actually going to stay stable under pressure or if it's just going to flake out on me when things get heavy...

I was wondering if anyone here has messed around with the Intel Core 2 Extreme? I'm thinking about attempting some serious overclocking, but honestly, finding decent advice online has been a total headache. Most of what I stumble upon is just some guy's screenshot claiming he pushed his chip all the way to 4GHz.
6400+ @ 4 GHz

Look, I'm not necessarily trying to hit those insane numbers—I just want to see what this thing can actually do when pushed.

But before I dive in, I've run into a bit of a snag... My BIOS shows the multiplier topping out at 16x, but from everything I've read, the Black Edition should be unlocked and capable of going up to 25x.

Here’s my current rig:
Intel Core 2 Extreme
OCZ XTC Platinum (2*1GB), 800 MHz
Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3
Fortron BluesStorm II 500w
Albatron 8800GTS 320MB (630/830)

Any advice on how to proceed? 👍

PS: One more thing... When it comes to an overclocked GPU, is it better to crank the fan to 100% to keep temps low, or just run the fan at 50% and let the temperature climb a bit higher?

If you're already going all-in on Gigabyte, you really should have at least grabbed an M57 or an M59 board...

The M56 is honestly just junk for this kind of setup, though I guess it'll get you by... but you won't be pushing it nearly as hard as it's capable of.

Ended up going with the big Typhoon after all.
I haven't even touched the overclocking yet, but I ran Orthos at stock settings and Everest shows these temps under full load:
CPU: 42
Core 1: 59
Core 2: 59
Does that seem right, or should they be lower given I've got the big Typhoon? Just to be clear, this was all done while the CPU was still running at default frequency.
