Hey guys, I’ve got a few newbie questions here, please help a brother out: 😁
Basically, I’ve been doing a little digging online and ended up on some pretty empty pages, so I’m trying to wrap my head around the basics:
1. For example, if it says 166MHz x 2
Is 166 the FBI and 2 the multiplier? Is that how it works?
2. What even is this "bus" thing anyway?
3. And what's the deal with latencies?
4. When people talk about overclocking memory, they're talking about RAM, right?
5. So, I’ve got an Intel Core Duo T2450 2.00 running in my machine... how can I figure out what my multiplier and FBI actually are?
6. I poked around my BIOS, but I couldn't find any settings to tweak the FBI at all... is there some secret key combo or something I'm missing? 😁

Thanks in advance!

Well, I did a bit of digging around and ended up stumbling upon some blank pages where I tried to jot down the basics:
1. npr. 166MHz x 2
Is 166 the FBI multiplier, and is 2 the multiplier? Is that correct?
What exactly constitutes a repository, anyway?
What exactly constitutes latency?
When discussing memory overclocking, we are specifically referring to the RAM, correct?
I have an Intel Core Duo T2450 2.00GHz processor... how can I find out what my multiplier is and what the FBI is set to?
I've been poking around my BIOS, but I can't seem to find any settings for adjusting the FBI... Is there some kind of secret key combination I'm missing, or what? 😁

Thank you in advance.

Yes.
2.FBI
3.Latency issues.
4. Regarding video card memory...
5. CPU-Z
Not all motherboards support overclocking. If you happen to have a Gigabyte board, try pressing Ctrl+F1 in the BIOS. From there, you can identify your specific model, which will allow you to search online or consult the manufacturer's manual to see exactly what your hardware is capable of.

I guess I was wondering what kind of software you guys typically use to adjust the CPU fan speed?

wanderingraven4 said:So, what kind of software are you guys actually using to dial in the CPU fan speeds?

I usually lean on RivaTuner or those ATI Tray Tools...

Though, I should mention that some of these graphics cards just don't give you any way to mess with the fan speeds at all, which can be a bit of a headache sometimes...

wanderingraven4 said:What software are you using to adjust the CPU fan RPM?

The RPM climbs if you're on stock settings... though SpeedFan works too.

wiredmarlin5 said:I suppose RivaTuner and ATI Tray Tools might still be worth looking into, if you're into that sort of thing.

I guess some graphics cards just don't come with the option to adjust the fan speeds.

I was talking about the CPU fan, I guess. Since it's sitting at about 850 RPM right now with the stock settings, I was thinking maybe I could try to speed it up a little bit.

Kyle Sanchez4 said:I guess the RPMs go up if you're running stock settings, though I suppose you could always just tweak it with SpeedFan.

SpeedFan is telling me it's pinned at 100%, yet it's barely hitting 850 RPM. It feels a little underwhelming, I guess...

The fan should automatically kick into high gear once the processor temperature rises, though you can also manually adjust it using SpeedFan software.

4.Yeah, or maybe it's the VRAM on the graphics card

6.Not all motherboards support overclocking. If you have an Intel board, try hitting Ctrl+F1 in the BIOS. Check which specific model you've got and Google it, or just flip through the motherboard manual

Alright, thanks! I think I mostly get it now, but: 😁
3.Could you explain that latency thing a bit more? I get that it's basically the time between requesting a byte and actually receiving it... plus some other stuff...
What do those numbers actually mean when you guys are talking about them?
5. Now, this part really has me stumped... 😁
6.Is that Intel thing referring to the BIOS?
I'm running Phoenix v1.40.... I tried the Ctrl + F1 trick but nothing happened...

5.Just downloaded CPU-Z. It’s such a handy little tool for checking everything under the hood. Simple, clean, and gets the job done without any fuss.
Intel is a brand.

I took a look over there, but honestly, I couldn't find what I was actually hunting for. Just wasn't there.
Nick hasn't really given a good explanation of what latency actually is. 😁
Just downloaded it and fired it up... waiting on those CPU results now!
Clock speed - 798 Multiplier
The multiplier ranges anywhere from 6.0 all the way up to 15.0.
Bus speed is sitting at 133.0 MHz.
Clock speed - 798 Multiplier. Rated FSB 532.0 MHz.

Didn't quite hit the jackpot this time, but hey, you never know, right?
Just wanted to prove that even an old man like the E4300 can still pull its weight on a bottom-of-the-barrel DS3L board😁.

Even that cheap Kingmax RAM (667) isn't half bad at 952@5-5-5-15
.
And honestly, even that budget 3850 from Club3D ($365) holds its own—check it out here. Plus, temps are sitting pretty under 45° even with the fans spinning at 900 RPM😍.

I am hopeful you will eventually pull off that 100% mark. 🙂
Once you get everything clocked at 100%, please share a screenshot showing that Everest displays "OC 100%"—it would be a proud moment for all of us.

Nobody seems to give a decent, plain-English explanation of what latency actually is. 😁
5. Got the software installed and running, and here are my CPU results...
Clock speed - 798 Multiplier
Multiplier- fluctuates between 6.0 and 15.0
Bus speed- 133.0 MHz
Rated FSB 532.0 MHz

Also, could someone please break down what my FSB and multiplier actually mean for me?
And seriously, what is latency?

Haha... 😁
I mean, look at my own post right here... It says I downloaded it and shows all my results, but honestly? I'm a little confused by the whole thing 😁

I’m using this rig every single day right now, so once I wrap this up, I might try to squeeze a little more juice out of it.
Either way, it's a pretty decent result considering how cheap this Core 2 Duo and motherboard combo was.

I mean, look at my own post above... It clearly shows I uninstalled it and what the results were, but things just got a bit messy for me 😁

Honestly, you're better off just dropping a screenshot from Task Manager showing the CPU and memory usage.

If you look back at my previous post... I clearly stated that I've already applied the settings and shared my results, even if they were a bit confusing at first. 😁

My apologies, I missed that part. 😵

FBI=133.0 MHz
multiplier=6
