I’ve been sitting here wondering which bands I should actually sit down and give my full attention to lately. It feels like there's always something new to discover, doesn't it?I’ve always had my fair share of grievances with certain bands that just get under my skin, but this was truly the first time I felt genuinely let down by the actual musical performance itself. Perhaps I was just too distracted by Wayne’s constant rambling and little monologues between the songs, which really threw me off my stride.

How on earth does one even fake the experience of actually listening to a band? 😕

I remember once attending a concert for a band I had absolutely never heard of—honestly, I hadn't even gone out of my way to listen to their music before that night. 🤣 It was honestly just incredible. 🙏

They certainly aren't my absolute favorites, though.

I have to admit, those incredibly oversized hands at the very end were just a bit much—it felt almost comical!

I honestly thought they were quite wonderful. 😳

To be perfectly honest, the law is a bit of a toss-up. I remember one particular day when I spent the entire afternoon just sitting by the edge of the local reservoir, completely lost in thought, watching people attempt to walk through the water. 😢 I must say, that little smiley face really brightened my mood! It’s funny how such a simple gesture can add a touch of warmth to the conversation. Hope you're having a wonderful day!

The game was absolutely fantastic; I truly had a wonderful time watching it. 😍 I was just sitting here reflecting on things, and I couldn't help but think about how much certain moments can truly shape our perspective. It’s funny how life works that way, isn't it? One minute you're just going about your day, and the next, you're hit with a realization that feels both profound and strangely comforting. It really makes you appreciate the quiet, steady rhythm of existence.

I imagine they were probably being touted as the main attraction because of the sheer scale of the production. At the end of the day, people just have an incredible appetite for a grand spectacle. 🤷

Linda Barrett87 said:What does a Massive Attack set actually feel like if you’re standing about a hundred yards back, or if you happen to catch them when the sound system is subpar and they haven't invested in those heavy visual elements, the lighting rigs, or the high-end production? Honestly, without all that extra flair, it just feels flat. 🙂

I’ve been lucky enough to attend quite a few live shows over the years—though I won't bore you with an exhaustive list of every venue and tour I've been on—but that really isn't the point I'm trying to make here.

I have to say, I find myself respectfully disagreeing with that take. 🙂 It really is a fundamental shift. We have to realize that music isn't just about someone pounding on a drum or everyone jumping around a bonfire while shouting in rhythm anymore. Nowadays, every single concert or festival has evolved into this massive, immersive audio-visual experience. It doesn't necessarily need to be all flashy confetti and balloons falling from the rafters, but the lighting design? That is absolutely essential to the soul of the show.

To be perfectly honest, I found Massive Attack to be quite underwhelming regardless; they just weren't really my cup of tea.

I once went to see this band—I’d never heard of them, and honestly, I didn't even go specifically to hear them🤣 and it was fucking terrible. 🙏

Well, it's basically when you think, "Yeah, this band seems cool enough," but your brain just refuses to process them. It’s like they're a transplanted organ that your body is actively rejecting.😢 But you still show up to the gig anyway. You wait for that one song you actually recognize, but halfway through, you start fidgeting like your underwear is digging into all the wrong places. Everything starts getting on your nerves, especially those people in the back complaining that the band is only playing hits, when you can't even tell which song is a hit and which one is just mediocre. So, you step outside to smoke, come back near the end, tell everyone it was "actually alright," head home, forget the whole thing ever happened, and just feel glad you checked that last Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival off your list.😕

I don't really do that anymore.😍

I guess you just can't replicate that specific energy you get at a live rock show through a screen, no matter how good the video is... you just can't capture that vibe online. What an absolute jerk!!!

Honestly, I find it totally ridiculous when people claim The Flaming Lips are just some visual spectacle and not actually a musical act—I mean, really? They’ve put out five or six absolutely stellar albums that earned massive respect from everyone, from the big critics to the hardcore indie crowd, including last year's Embryonic and what I honestly think are some of the best neo-psychedelic records ever made! 🙏
Sure, Wayne doesn't have the most incredible voice, but man, their musicianship is top-tier—especially when they play tracks like The Leaves or those massive hits like Do You Realize??, not to mention the endless replayability of Powerless ♥

And another thing—with all that crazy, euphoric energy floating around in the air at a festival, there's simply no way you can catch every single note they play! 😳

Neither did I.

You beat me to it. I was just about to post something similar. The Flaming Lips are a seriously great band that plays incredible music. As far as I'm concerned, they can ditch the charts mid-concert if they want to. Personally, I love seeing how much effort they put in. The visuals are beautiful and perfectly match their sound and philosophy. Why are Massive Attack or Kraftwerk's visuals considered genius, while confetti, balloons, and gloves are "too much"? Especially since, to my ears, The Flaming Lips' music is basically pure confetti and balloons 😍 and honestly, I bet Massive Attack's visual setups cost way more than all this stuff combined 😬

omg so fake and stupid 😲

If I'm not feeling it, I'm not going, no matter how trendy or cool everyone else thinks it is 🤷

Anyway, hanging out in front of Budweiser was the best part 😁 and overall a good time despite some flaws (I'll vent about that here later 😠 )

Man, you're totally lost in the fog if you think that way 🙂

Look, I get it—the music is obviously the main event and nothing was wrong with the lineup. But there’s a world of difference between catching Massive Attack at some random beach at 3 in the afternoon versus soaking up those vibes at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival when the atmosphere is just hitting different

No, it was actually great. 😢

Facts.

I wasn't really at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (except for maybe the last ten minutes, but I didn't catch much), so I have no idea what their visuals were like.
As for The Flaming Lips, I found them boring. Honestly, it felt like the people around me were bored too, though maybe I just can't read a room 😁. I had this feeling that the visual effects totally overshadowed the actual music, which annoyed me for a second. Eventually, I just sat there watching how many pieces of confetti would land in my drink and decided the music was fine as background noise for stuff like that 😍. But hey, that's just my take. I'm not a huge fan of The Flaming Lips (even if I've given them a shot before), so maybe that's why.

Anyway, it wasn't exactly a jumping-around, sing-along kind of concert. I guess I was uninformed and expected it to be more high-energy. Now I have no clue how many people were actually jumping and singing along in their heads. 😁

I’ve definitely had those moments myself where I find myself at some event I have absolutely zero interest in attending, purely because I want to support my group of friends, 🙄 and you end up spending the whole time putting on this big act, pretending you're actually having a blast, though it only lasts so long.

And then you go home and you cry and you want to die. 😬

Were you hanging out at the Budweiser Stage the entire time?

frozentinker432 said:Oh please, how can a group's "best concert ever" be a band they’ve literally never heard of, let alone listened to? 😕 Or maybe they've only been to like one and a half shows in their entire life... or maybe they just REALLY freaking love confetti. I'm crossing my fingers for the latter.

I don't see what's so weird about that?
Sometimes you just discover new music live and it totally blows your mind.
Though, honestly, it would make more sense if Massive Attack was his best show so far, because I don't think anyone could stay indifferent to a sound like that—even if it was their first time hearing them. (Then again, when I remember those people walking away from a Bicep set without even blinking, just heading straight home, I guess anything is possible)

As for my absolute favorite concert, a buddy of mine mentioned them maybe a month prior; he listened to a few tracks, went absolutely feral, and was jumping through the whole show at a packed venue. And get this—there isn't even a single video of it on YouTube yet, despite how crowded the place was. (Honestly, I feel like camera access should be banned at shows; I can't stand those crowds. The absolute worst ones push to the very front just to film 🤮)

I don't know, I guess that's just the kind of stuff I love singing along to at shows.😍
Honestly, I’d much rather go to a concert where they actually play music I genuinely adore—even if the band stays in the dark the whole night—than some show where I have no clue who is playing, yet I end up getting wasted and jumping around like a maniac for no reason. I guess that's just how it is.

I missed out on Genso 4 🙂 🙂

So were you stuck at the Bud Light stage the whole time?

I'm the exact opposite 😁 if I miss out on something I actually want, I just pretend I don't care.

and i stay home and i cry and i want to die 😬

ummm.... yeah 😁 I was at some of the sets (not all of them), near the BSS and Massive stages. Didn't hit the Ericsson stage at all (I wanted to catch The Killers but I was busy eating 😢 )

Wait, so you go to an American music festival expecting a massive sing-along from an indie band that spends 60% of their set playing tracks from their last psychedelic, somewhat moody album? Hmm. Honestly, the Pixies absolutely crushed the musical side of things.

And man, in the front rows, the energy during Yoshimi, Do You Recognize Me, and Where Is My Mind was next level. For me, the only downside was all the political commentary and them trying to force the crowd to participate. As far as the performance goes, the Pixies have been trying to sync their visuals with their sound since their early days—back then they were lighting cymbals on fire and bringing motorcycles on stage like a garage band opening for the Beach Boys, whereas today they’re tossing confetti and having people stomp on balloons.

Bottom line, I wouldn't say the stage antics outshone the music, even though I get why non-fans might feel that way. The visual stuff is super cool, though.

Dammit, I literally said right there in that sentence that I was out of the loop 😁
for instance, my biggest mystery at the end was why on earth I hadn't heard the Fight Test 😢

The political discourse was a huge downside for me, too. 😁

Ugh, and there have been so many times like that lately. 😬 I end up feeling down for days afterward because I missed out. 🙂

ummm.... yeah 😁 I caught parts of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival—not the whole thing, obviously—but I saw some acts near the Bud Light stage. I didn't make it to the Ericsson stage at all, even though I really wanted to go cheer on The Killers, but I was busy grabbing food at the time 😢 .

The Killers. 😲
You've got to be kidding me. 😢

I was actually grabbing a bite to eat right around the time Maroon 5 started their set. 😳

so 😢 we grabbed a hot dog and it was honestly disgusting. I couldn't even look at how gross it was. We ended up getting one from a different vendor instead. Then we headed over to the main area. I mean, I've been to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival countless times and I'll be back since they're always playing festivals anyway 😬 I was basically dancing in the street while we were passing by the Bud Light stage 😁 I think the people around me were staring at me like I was crazy 😬

Oh my god! That was hands down the worst hot dog I have ever tasted! I took one bite of the bun, gagged, spit it out, and just tossed the whole thing in the trash. I ended up just eating the bread. 😢

Overall, it was a good vibe.

Missed Kawasaki :( made it to the end of BSS, watched Alice in Chains. Didn't get too crazy since I wasn't jumping much. They were alright.
Went hard at the afterparty later though, it was insane :P

Day two, my friend and I were late for the sets because the shuttle service around the park was a mess (more on that later). Caught Rise, though I mostly dig their older stuff. They killed it. Good energy, pretty chill :D
After them, Pendulum 🙏 honestly, I was surrounded by a bunch of teenagers and totally fit the look 😳 but man, the energy was wild. Just constant jumping and moshing 🤣 Glad I caught them, plus Rob is so freaking hot 🙂 🙂

Day three, rushed to see Scrawl, those guys are great. Vocals were amazing. Too bad they played so early because the crowd was thin. After that, we went hunting for food and found this sausage that looked and tasted disgusting (my friend tried it), so we reconsidered our life choices. Decided to gamble on another stand and got a decent hot dog 🙏 then went to grab some shirts. And ended up at Dubioza which absolutely crushed it :P
Jumping, singing—they totally won us over.
Caught the tail end of BSS. Sadly.
The Flaming Lips 🙏 epic start, ever. Crazy guy. Balloons. Confetti. More balloons 😍 Light show was gorgeous.
We didn't stay long, headed to Skindred instead. Never heard them before but they blew me away. That guy is intense. He had us acting like little monkeys 🤣 It was awesome.
And then finally, the long-awaited Flogging Molly. Perfect. Per-fect!!!!
Fun, carefree, and the lead singer just bouncing around the stage handing out beers
Got caught in a mosh pit that nearly killed me lol
Made it to the very end of Massive, and that was it.

Didn't really care for them. Sucks I missed more of the others (LCD, !!!, BSS).

We camped out. The campsite was great. We had everything we needed. Guys and girls there were always around to help. The lady running the food stall was totally sunburnt. She loaded us up with snacks :D

Big downside was how far the camp was from the stages :( It’s no joke walking 15-20 minutes lugging a heavy backpack when you arrive or leave. Especially when you're rushing to catch a set.
Minus points for transport because two buses weren't enough for everyone arriving. On Tuesday, we waited for the bus at the park entrance. One didn't even stop because it was packed. The second one did. I think there were at least 100 people inside. We should have gotten off near the camp, the bus stopped, but nobody got off because they didn't need to. But us? We couldn't get off because we were packed in like sardines :P So we took the next one and ended up walking back to camp again.
👎

It was nice seeing some familiar faces and meeting new people and stuff :)
My Converse are trashed. Everything else got washed out lol

Next year, I'm only going if the lineup is freaking incredible. Otherwise, probably not :-p

I just couldn't bring myself to try it. I mean, maybe things aren't always as bad as they look, but still... 🙏 I guess I used to be a total snack back in the day. Maybe. 😁
My stomach was acting up big time. Couldn't even handle a slice of bread, I guess. $5.00 Into the wind. 😠

I had some crappy hot dog combo for $8.25, and man, what a disaster... after just a couple of bites, I completely lost my appetite. I was thirsty immediately too, though even the beer was pretty terrible. Ended up drinking half water, half beer.😢
