Hey admins, I’m asking for a permanent, no-appeal ban on this account. Just pull the trigger and do your magic...

Nica will probably tell you pretty soon that they can issue a temporary ban instead—say, for something like two years...

Maybe just ask her how long you’d actually want to be out?

After hanging out on this site for 15 years, I honestly don't get why people go begging for a ban or some partial lockout from a forum.

If you’re done talking, then just stop talking. It’s not like anyone cares if you have some ancient username sitting there that you haven't touched in ages. Besides, who knows? You might change your mind tomorrow. I’ve still got an old account from way back before 2007 just chilling here—it isn't hurting anybody.

Reason: the devil won't leave me alone—you really want in on this?

Set a password you know you won't remember and provide a non-existent email address. Your profile will remain locked and unusable since you won't be able to verify the account. If you change your mind later, simply create a new profile. Just keep in mind that if you receive a ban on this account and try to return with a different one, you might find yourself banned again until the original penalty expires. This approach is definitely the more secure route. 🙂

It's funny how moderators find it so easy to hand out arbitrary bans whenever they feel like it, but the second a user asks for one themselves, suddenly it’s all "questionnaires" and red tape.

Hmmmm… Probably because the mods have a serious sadistic streak, and us masochists just ruin their fun by pushing back. 🤔

You know the old joke: "The masochist says, 'Hit me, kick me, torture me!' and the sadist replies, 'No thanks!'" 🤣

Alright, jokes aside—I'm asking because I'm genuinely confused here. It's not like I'm speaking for the whole crowd. I've actually been hanging around this forum way longer than any mod has.

lonetrucker4 said:All right, that was a joke, but on a serious note: I'm asking because I personally don't quite get it. I'm not speaking for everyone here, after all. I've actually been a member of this forum longer than the moderator has.

After a certain amount of time, an online forum can become an addiction. You might find you aren't even enjoying it anymore; in fact, it might start to feel tedious or even irritating. Yet, you find yourself coming back out of pure habit. You read something, feel compelled to reply, and before you know it, several hours have slipped away while you're stuck in nonsense threads or drowning in pointless arguments that only serve to frustrate and agitate you. Even if you take a break for a few days, once you return, you fall right back into the same pattern.

When you realize you can't seem to discipline yourself, you look to an outside authority for help. You might request a temporary ban just to force yourself to step away from the time-wasting, the arguing, and the stress, hoping that you'll have more self-control once the ban expires—or perhaps hoping the forum environment itself improves in the meantime. If you are truly fed up with your own behavior, you might ask for a long-term or permanent ban (though those aren't typically granted) or a restriction on the specific sub-forum that causes you the most grief. It's a way to impose discipline on yourself. 😁

A user just opened a clone account using the exact handle they’re trying to get perm for, and then went ahead and posted a goodbye letter because—get this—they’re supposedly leaving the forum.

The motives here are pretty obvious. ☕

You read one thing, get sucked into replying, and before you know it, hours have vanished down the drain on total nonsense. Or you're stuck drowning in some pointless, infuriating argument that serves zero purpose. You try taking a few days off to clear your head, but once you're back? It’s the same old cycle all over again.

Exactly what Lawrence Booth2 said. 🍿 Alright, I get it now! 😵

It’s pretty transparent if you ask me. ☕

permanent ban on this account👍

It reminds me of that old joke: A masochist cries out, "Please, hit me! Step on me! Make me suffer!" and the sadist just looks at him and says, "No thanks, I'm good!" 🤣

What part don't you get?

With that account, he basically said goodbye to Reddit, asked for a permanent ban for himself, and made sure everyone thought he was leaving for good.

Then, on the flip side, he just opened a second account without even telling anyone who he was.

It makes his motives pretty obvious.

But he's just being shady...

p.s. I changed my nickname once too, but I just stopped using the old one. I didn't make a whole scene or try to pull a stunt. What he did goes against the site rules, so I'm curious to see if the moderators actually step in and deal with this kind of sneaky behavior...

Or maybe it’s when your family finally figures out who you really are online and they start trolling under your handle, or you're just desperate to prove to your parents or your spouse that you aren't actually wasting your entire life on Reddit, so you go looking for some semblance of a real life!

I just pulled out the specific section where he actually admitted it, so I'm right along with you on this one.
