The Rolling Stones

I’ve been a fan for ages, though maybe just for the last six months 🙂 . After how much I loved Neutral Milk Hotel last year, I’m feeling that same level of obsession this year... I even picked up some of their live recordings... (as they say back in Cleveland... absolutely killer)

Actually, it isn't raining in Cleveland today, just pretty cloudy.

And I'm not really feeling Wolf Parade; I listened to their album a couple of months back and it just didn't do much for me...

and Cleveland is rainy, except sometimes instead of rain, it's something else... rocks😢

1. Just so we're clear, I've always been a huge fan of the first Neutral Milk Hotel album.
2. The Rolling Stones have one absolute standout on this record, but honestly, the rest is pretty middle-of-the-road.
3. No sugarcoating it here.
Hint: Think David Byrne regarding recent events.

I’ve always had a soft spot for "Bon Iver," specifically that one track from the Single, though I found the rest of that release to be pretty rough. Now that I'm back at work and feeling lucky to have this academic connection keeping me steady, I might actually sit down and listen to the full album. It'll be interesting to see how it all holds together.

I dig them, they're cool.

But they didn't click instantly. I first caught them live last year opening for Modest Mouse, and I thought, "Huh... these guys are actually good." Then I kind of moved on. Caught them live again this spring—also as an opener—and things finally started to settle. Now, I really love listening to them.
My favorites are 'Bon Iver', 'I'll believe in anything', and 'Song Lyric'... though that first one is probably the best.

Honestly, the best stuff I've heard in months has gotta be The Rolling Stones with Róisín Murphy, those New Pornographers, and the absolutely criminally underrated Pernice Brothers.

Honestly, those new Silver Jews tracks are absolute fire. Whatever Octopus thinks about them—man, he can think whatever he wants. 👋

I gave that Single a spin, and honestly? It hits the spot.

1. Regarding Neutral Milk Hotel, my only regret is missing their show and any version of Destroy
2. The Rolling Stones actually have more than just two great tracks on this record 😁

4. David Byrne took more heat because of the people he associated with rather than his own work... which means I could have ended up in a similar spot in a place like Cleveland 🙂

6. Indie Rock is garbage; they were bad then and they're annoying now. It's a shame I forgot that link to that old topless Apple video from back in the day
7. These songs are killer!!! Others were better

Personally, I’m not feeling anything special about it.
The only thing that truly blew me away was Fleetwood Mac, though even their first one isn't half bad.
A few others that were pretty decent include The Beatles, Bon Iver... and Modern Rock.

I don't know, it feels overrated and hyped up, and they definitely don't deserve a 9.2 from Rolling Stone.

Spike, why don't you just change your handle to The Killers? 😁

And Frank Howard79—what could you possibly know? You haven't listened to anything worth hearing since 'Pavement' dropped 🙂 😬

I mean, what can I say? The Rolling Stones isn't really my thing, even though I've probably spun that album about 50 times.

But Fleetwood Mac is solid—probably just because they remind me of Modest Mouse.😁

Man, this track is pure fire—maybe because it gives me those Wilco vibes.😁

I was thinking about putting this one alongside the Pavement tracks, but then I realized it’s actually pretty bad. 😁
