The case is solid, but it looks prehistoric—kind of like that HDD.

Thanks!!

Guys, I could really use some help here. I know this isn't strictly what this sub is for, but I'm looking for some quick advice if anyone has a second.
So, I put together a brand-new PC back in late August of last year, but lately, I've been seeing these weird greenish lines flickering across my screen. They pop up randomly, then disappear, and when they do happen, my resolution just tanks. If I restart the machine, everything goes back to normal, but sometimes the whole image just freezes up, leaving me stuck staring at a white screen from whatever program was running.
Is there any chance my graphics card is starting to give out?

Thanks a ton. I know this is a bit off-topic, so sorry for the random post.

I'd say roughly $733. Which specific Corsair power supply is it?

If you're running a TX power supply, then $800.

Yeah, TX is the power supply.

Yeah, solid power supply. It’s definitely one of their stronger lines. You can probably pull $8002300 for it. If you're listing it on eBay, I'd set the price at $2500; you might even get it for that much. 🙂

It’s a bummer my graphics card died the other day—it was a Radeon HD 6870—otherwise, I could have easily pulled $1000with it. I'm crunching the numbers right now, though. I'm thinking about just picking up a laptop instead. I don't really play heavy games anymore, so dumping money into this desktop feels like a waste.

From what I can see, you've got SATA3 on that board. I'd probably just toss in a 120GB SSD and maybe try undervolting the CPU to keep things a bit quieter 🤷 I’d also leave the integrated graphics on the motherboard active.

I would appreciate an assessment:

Athlon X2 4000
2x1GB Kingmax DDR2 800MHz (4)

Hitachi 320 GB 100 KN (3.5)

The numbers in parentheses indicate the age of each component.

Thank you. 🙂

What’s a fair asking price for this rig? Looking for what you guys would actually pay to pick it up today.

Intel I5 4440 gigabyte gtx 660
gigabyte gtx 660
Z97 motherboard
HDD WD Blue (WD5000AAKX)
Fractal Design Define R4 white case
Corsair VS 550 PSU
8GB 1600 MHz RAM

Fractal Define R4 white case
Corsair VS 550 PSU
8GB 1600 MHz

I’d say around $350-$1267. I just don't get WHY someone would pair a VS 550 in a build like this. It feels pretty unbalanced. You've got a high-end case from $233 paired with the absolute bottom-tier series from Corsair. 👎 If the motherboard were a Z97 version, this would look a lot better. 😉

fractal define r4 case (white)
Corsair VS 550 PSU
8gb 1600 mhz

So, are you selling because you're planning an upgrade, or do you just need the cash for something else?

If you're planning on buying something new, I wouldn't touch this rig. Everything is solid except for the power supply. Personally, I'd swap out the PSU, sell the whole thing for $67, maybe part out the gtx 660 for $250, and grab a gtx 970 instead. If the budget allows, I'd also jump on a Samsung 850 120GB SSD. I wouldn't mess with the CPU yet, but in a couple of years, you could swap in an i7 4790k, throw on a decent cooler, and you'd be set for a few more years.

On the other hand, if you're just liquidating because you need the money, you could list it on Craigslist like this:

Intel I5 4440$367
gigabyte gtx 660$250
Z97 gryphon motherboard$233
HDD WD Blue (WD5000AAKX)$83
fractal define r4 case (white)$167
Corsair VS 550 PSU$67
8gb 1600 mhz$150

Total:$1317
Honestly, I wouldn't pay more than that. Plus, you didn't mention how old the individual parts actually are or if there's any warranty left on them.

If you’re thinking about upgrading, I wouldn't touch this setup. Everything is solid except for the power supply. Personally, I’d just swap out the PSU and sell the old one for whatever I can get. $67 Just flipped my GTX 660. $250 I'm grabbing a gtx 970 too. If the budget holds up, I’ll probably pick up a Samsung 850 120GB SSD as well. I wouldn't swap out the CPU just yet, but in maybe two years you could jump to an i7 4790k, slap on a decent cooler, and you're set for a few more years.

If you're offloading your rig just because you need the cash for something else, here’s how you should list it on Craigslist:

Intel I5 4440. Just a basic chip. $367
Intel I5 4440 gigabyte gtx 660 $250
MSI Z87 Gryphon. $233
The WD Blue (WD5000AAKX) is just another standard hard drive. Nothing special about it. $83
Fractal Design Define R4 case, white. $167
Corsair vs. some cheap 550W unit? It's like choosing between a Ford and a junker you found in a ditch. Don't cheap out. $67
8GB at 1600 MHz. $150

Total:$1317
I wouldn't offer you a dime more. You didn't even mention how old this stuff is or if there's any warranty left.

Are you blind or just ignoring facts? You wrote "6 months old" right there. 😂

So this guy is trying to sell his PC, and you're out here giving him a list of upgrades. 🤦

Look, I didn't see how old the rig was because I was rushing through the thread. I actually have a job, unlike some people who live on Reddit all day. You’re proving how much of a clown you are with every single post. I mean, would you even know if it was 12 or 13 years old?🤣

Good grief, I honestly can't decide who's worse: Elon Musk, for being such a relentless copycat every single time, or Max, for constantly dragging himself back here just to provoke these kinds of reactions with useless, illiterate posts... If this is just a guess, and you actually agree with it, why bother "answering" an unasked question over and over again just to stir the pot? 🙂

I have no idea why my post was flagged as unhelpful. I literally broke down the estimated value for every single component because let’s be real—nobody is actually going to buy a whole rig in one go.
Since I didn't see how old the build was, I just assumed it was maybe a year and a half or two years old. I figured the person might be looking to offload the old stuff to fund an all-new setup. Whatever, man—we all get caught up in the component grind, and some people probably think everything needs an upgrade after just two years.
And seriously, explain what you mean by me "coming back" to this. What am I supposed to be coming back to? I commented once; I didn't spam the thread a hundred times. Or are we talking about that bit where you claimed I was some famous clone, so I should just hit the report button like I did with The New Guy recently?
