We actually ended up ordering our cake from an aunt of mine who runs her own boutique bakery out in the suburbs.
Here’s the link to her site: http://www.slatka-tajna.com/
You can always shoot her an email; she’s pretty quick to get back to you. She's incredibly sweet and easy to talk to, too. I guess the prices are quite reasonable, and she has a massive selection—honestly, what you see online is just a tiny fraction of what she actually does. Once you sit down with her and look through her physical catalogs and photo albums, you'll see the real variety. She’s happy to customize everything to your specific vision, and she has all these cool decorative effects, like those cascading chocolate waterfalls and similar flourishes... My cake, which featured one of those waterfall effects, ended up being $733. It was enough to serve 200 people, and she managed it by making one large centerpiece cake consisting of four different flavor profiles, so there was something for everyone, I suppose. Oh, and she doesn't even ask for a deposit upfront—she only takes payment if things get really hectic—plus, delivery straight to the venue in Washington, D.C. was totally free.

You might want to try asking in the Ohio or Savannah threads; honestly, I don't personally know anyone in that area right now, but since there are plenty of locals from our neck of the woods posting there, I'm sure someone will pop up who knows a great baker for cakes and pastries.😉

I’ve finally made up my mind... the cake is going to be Ferrero! I had this exact flavor about two years ago and it was hands down the best thing I've ever tasted...
The catch, however, is that because the filling is so soft, you can't stack the layers into a tiered cake. That means I’m definitely going to need some proper cake stands to display them separately.
I’m looking for advice on where to buy, rent, or even custom-order some, and what kind of budget I should set aside for them!
There’s a chance I’ll be making it at a local bakery, but if they only offer those cheap plastic ones (which are honestly just eyesores), I really need a Plan B to find something more elegant!
Just to give you an idea... we're talking about a cake for 200 people $467. And let me tell you, when I had it there, everyone was blown away—even my mom, and she is a notoriously tough critic when it comes to bakery sweets!

Anyway...
I'm picturing something along the lines of these kinds of stands...

If you're in Chicago or the surrounding areas, you can find stuff like this at Target or maybe even at a Good Partner...😉

They’ve even got a full website for the shop and everything, so you can just hop online to check out what kind of walking sticks they have in stock.

Oh boy... the display stand I’ve been eyeing—the one that has absolutely everything I want—is $1300... so for now, I’m just crossing my fingers that the bakery I'm ordering my cake from actually carries it! 😁
If they don't... well, I'll just have to get creative and DIY something myself...

You could always just rent a stand through one of those wedding planning agencies; they often have them tucked away in storage, much like the restaurant I use does.

Ladies... I keep seeing these cakes in photos with what looks like satin ribbons wrapped around every single tier... is that actually satin ribbon or something else?

Actually, Meli isn't in Preck, she's located over in Brooklyn on Oak Street.
Their cakes are seriously incredible—you really can't go wrong if you decide to go with them, because honestly, we order both cakes and pastries from Meli for pretty much every single occasion we have! 😁

Just in case anyone’s looking... I’m putting together a private order for some teen party cakes and pastries. A couple of local women make them at home—they aren't running official businesses or anything, but honestly, the quality is top-tier.
Both of them are based out of Savannah (one handles the custom cakes, the other does the pastries).
The pastries go for $17/lb.
The cake itself is a three-tier stack covered in that fondant stuff—you know, looks like marzipan but it's way smoother and better. That lady provides all the cake materials and does the decorations too. It's a pretty massive thing, so it'll probably cost me $267.
If you want the details, just shoot me a DM. 😉

So, I’ve finally decided I'm gonna grab a cake from Grant's Bakery. If anyone has any thoughts or knows if it's actually any good, please let me know before I put down a deposit!

Hey ladies, I could really use a little help here...

So, we’ve got about 280 people on the wedding guest list. Realistically? Probably somewhere between 200 and 220 will actually show up. But honestly, my brain is just totally fried trying to calculate how many pounds of dessert I actually need to order...

The setup is going to be round tables with maybe 8 or 10 people per table, plus some extra to pass around...

As for the stuff at the house afterward, his mom is handling all the baking there...

If anyone knows the standard math for how much food you actually need, please let me know!

Pusa to everyone, good luck!

From what I've seen on their website, those cakes look amazing. But here's the problem: it's been nine days now and I haven't heard back from them at all. Honestly, I'm at a loss. What should I do?
