The cake and everything else are coming from Piece—the cake is (I think it’s called cappuccino?) with a dark biscuit base, then white parfait, then chocolate, but we're just going to go with the chocolate one. Both my husband and I tried their parfait and it is seriously delicious; it feels so much more chocolatey and rich than the stuff you get elsewhere...

It finally worked! Yessssss!😁😁😁

a few cookies (finally sitting down to write this now) I tried about ten different kinds—I didn't have enough time to wait for them to slice up the other varieties—but honestly, every single one was incredible. The absolute standouts, though? Those three-chocolate sticks with red pepper and that cheese pie... oh my god, that cheese pie is exactly like how my mom makes it. I’ve seriously never had anything like it anywhere else 😍
I'm heading back there this coming Monday to grab some more fresh stuff and treat myself 😍

The info on the cake is on the previous page, I moved it 🙂

Oh man, I was honestly so shaken up after that total disaster with those three cakes of theirs—they weren't even close to being good, let alone decent... but now we've just realized that a dear friend of ours actually owns Sugarman! So, we’re planning to head over there to try out their pastries and cakes instead... and if they turn out to be as lovely as everyone says they are—then we'll definitely stick with them from now on... as for the prices, they seem to be sitting right around there—maybe a little pricier than the other spots nearby

Quick question for anyone planning on sharing homemade treats for the holidays: how much stuff are you actually putting in each box? I read somewhere that about 5 or 6 ounces is a decent amount per container.

Also, where are you guys picking up the packaging, what’s the damage on price, and who’s doing all the actual packing work?

Over at Jack & Jill, the boxes are $1.00 plus if they handle the assembly too, then $1.00, which means $2.00 just to cover the box and the labor ($200 seems pretty pricey for just 100 boxes).
At Sugarman, they charge $1.25 for the box itself, but they throw in the packaging for free.

Linda Ward312, I just picked up some boxes from a shop in Seattle and brought them into the hall,
set them out on the dessert tables, and let everyone help themselves to whatever they wanted... 🤷

You can grab those containers at the Metropolitan or Walmart (if you’re talking about those clear plastic ones). Check their aisles first to see where they're hiding. I’m not one to split the cookies, but my baker told me they usually pack eight per box—though that really depends on what kind of treats you're working with. I’ll be doing standard-sized cookies, properly sliced, not those tiny little crumbs like some toddler would eat. Honestly, I think it all comes down to the type and size of the cookie; 15 ounces could mean ten rolls or just three decadent chocolate bars—it's hard to say for sure.

steelfox15, I actually love those little sliders because they let me sample way more varieties at once! 🙂

We aren't expecting a huge crowd this time, so I think I’ll just go ahead and put out a few extra pastries—I really don't see the harm in that... 🙂

See, I look at it totally differently—I’m all about those decent, classic pastries. So, if I’m in one of those moods where I just want to go absolutely ham on everything and there's a specific kind I'm craving more than the rest, I'll just grab a knife and start slicing up pieces. Usually, I've got some people around for a little tasting session anyway, so nothing stays untouched... and heaven forbid anyone actually leaves a mess behind :P

So, here’s the situation... I’m looking at a guest list of about 120 people. I’m planning on picking up roughly 140 pounds of assorted pastries. Is that enough if I want to pack little gift boxes for everyone to take home, while making sure the maid of honor, the best man, and both sets of parents get the lion's share?

And my cousin had just as much, but she wasn't handing it out to everyone, so there actually wasn't that much left over...

How many poundsdddd😲😲😲
🤷Man, that is just... wow, that is a massive amount..
I usually aim for about 45 pounds for every 100 people, though everyone tells me 33 would be plenty, but I honestly don't trust them...
And that's just for a catered event, obviously.
If I'm doing the math here, you probably need about 55 pounds for a big party, maybe just 4 pounds if you're serving at home, or 4 pounds if you're at his place (since people tend to snack on saltier stuff at home). If you actually have 60 people over at your house, grab about 9 pounds per person for a home setup. To play it safe for sharing, if I've got this right, you'd need about 1.5 pounds per head, which hits 18 kg—wait, let's stick to pounds—which is roughly 35 lbs. But if you really want to go big with 2 pounds per person, you're looking at 55 lbs. Totaling it all up, we're talking 51 to 58 pounds of dessert... and even that feels like a literal ton...🤷

Actually, now that I think about it, that's not even much less than 65... 🙂

For 190 people, we had about 55 pounds of dessert at the caterer, and honestly, it was overkill... We even left a whole tray for the salad bar and saved some for guests to take home the next day... On top of that, my mom grabbed 3 kilograms to give to the neighbors, so there were leftovers floating around for days. Seems excessive to me.

So, I found some boxes online for $1.75. It seems kinda pricey, but since I managed to save a bunch on stuff like car decals, invitations, thank-you notes, and confetti—probably around $1333 total—I'm definitely just gonna order these online and deal with whatever happens 😁... It's not like I was being super stingy or anything, but I made it work! Since I saved so much there, I've actually got some cash left over for other random nonsense 😂
