Much appreciated, David Howard9. 👍 The women in my family all noticed it immediately through the flavor profile; there was this distinct metallic aftertaste, and my mother could swear she tasted nothing but cheap margarine in the frostings, though my sister insisted she’d never had better pastries. 😛 I found myself feeling 😲 quite uncertain once again, but you have finally helped me reach a decision.

Michael Palmer862 said:I've been reading this thread for a while now and I'm genuinely confused. Why am I expected to bring desserts with formal documentation instead of just making them at home? Why would a restaurant demand pastries that come from a registered business rather than just being homemade?
😕😕😕😕😕

In my experience, when I talked to the folks at the restaurant, they told me they needed me to sign a formal statement—basically a waiver saying that I personally guarantee everything about the cakes, so if a health inspector ever shows up, they aren't held responsible for what I made.

Hmm... well, this isn't necessarily a bad tip, though I honestly didn't think to ask about it myself... how silly of me!
Thanks so much! 😉

Their heart is truly in their craft, located over on Broadway... they have only been officially operating for about a year now, and it is quite evident that they haven't yet succumbed to the complex chemistry of modern baking, which is actually a blessing. They work exclusively with real, wholesome ingredients without any of those artificial substitutes... their cakes are simply fantastic, lacking all those overly processed mousses and unnecessary additives. The ladies there prepare their creams with such care, making them feel truly homemade, and to me, that is what a real cake should be. I had the pleasure of trying their Ice Wind, and honestly, words fail me... it cannot even be compared to the one I had at a local bakery downtown the other day, though that is beside the point. If you are someone who appreciates an authentic, homemade taste, I give them my warmest recommendation... plus, the owner is such a lovely woman and is incredibly accommodating if you need to discuss any special arrangements

Jacob Fisher2 said:Ladies, thanks so much for all the info about the bakeries in Springfield...

Alright, let's keep this rolling...👎
Emma's Ice Cream Shop???—my former neighbor actually runs that place, but I'd love to hear what you all think before I head over there to get a second opinion on a cake...

What about M&m? I heard their cakes are top-tier, but what about their pastries??? Does anyone know how much they weigh per unit??
And what about Melin?????

thanks🙏😕

I'm new here, but I can tell you I've been all over the place trying different pastries, so I'll just give you the rundown on the bakeries and prices. I tried stuff from M&m and they're great, a pound is $37, the pastries at Piece of Cake are also solid, a pound is $40, and Melody is $23. Their slices are a little too big for my liking, which bugs me, but the flavor is fine. I also hit up Kansas and the treats there are awesome. We actually chatted with the owner yesterday—you can work out pretty much anything with them, like specific flavors or how you want things put together. They're super nice.

Hey everyone, I'm new here! I see you guys have already listed a ton of bakeries and dessert spots... honestly, I haven't even made it through all of them yet. Has anyone actually tried Charlotte? (The one on Broadway near the Holy Spirit area). I'm planning a super small wedding, just about 30 people, so I'm feeling a bit lost on where to start with the cake. Thanks!

I am uncertain how much my standards have slipped, but I cannot comprehend why people claim these prices aren't exorbitant. To me, any price exceeding $27 per pound was always my threshold, yet we are now looking at 110 or even $40 😕

Everything is getting expensive these days, sure, but there are still some of us left who refuse to drop $33 on a handful of cookies 😉

If anyone’s looking for dessert, I can't recommend this one bakery enough. Their treats are such a steal at only $20/kg.

It’s honestly such a struggle to find delicious treats that don't break the bank.
I’ve hit up about five or six different bakeries lately, but nothing beats a good old heart cookie; they taste amazing since they aren't made with that cheap industrial frosting, plus they look gorgeous (they have so many cute decorated cookies).
And the price is actually pretty reasonable, $25

Oh, my dear, you are going to pay an absolute fortune for that cake in Charlotte; while I will admit it looks exactly how you envisioned it on the outside, it is probably best if no one actually cuts into it, if you ask me... quite unappetizing...

Well, I will be heading over to Whole Foods tomorrow as well, as I have an appointment scheduled with the manager at 5:00 PM, so I intend to gather all the necessary details... I am looking to pick up about forty-five pounds of supplies for the holiday rush and, of course, a cake, but if there is anything specific you all might need, I would be more than happy to inquire on your behalf...

Actually, Charlotte is a bakery run by Caterina Favory...

I've had the chance to try their treats at a few events they catered, and while I'll admit they look absolutely stunning—they just weren't really my thing flavor-wise... 🤷

I actually live right by the Holy Spirit area, so Charlotte is basically right under my nose, though I don't find myself stopping in there all that often. To be honest, I wouldn't even go if they didn't offer fructose-free options; since my partner is diabetic, whenever I don't feel like baking from scratch, I'll pop in to grab something for him. They look beautiful, but in my opinion, the flavor is pretty much the same across the board. Personally, I wouldn't recommend them, but of course, it’s entirely up to you and your own preference.😉

It's pretty obvious their standards have tanked... 🤷
A friend of mine ordered a whole spread from them—cakes, the big cake, everything. Visually? Stunning. Taste-wise? Actually pretty good! Personally, I'm the type who only picks at two or three little treats during a wedding reception, but she really loved hers!
That wedding was about a year ago, though... 🤔
For my own wedding, I went with Sweet Secret. My mom handled the whole coordination, so I didn't stress too much over the dessert menu... I was happy with it, even if nothing beats homemade treats from back home... but when you start dealing with all those crazy permit issues at the banquet halls...🙂
You guys probably have more recent intel on Charlotte than I do.🙂

It's pricey—like, crazy expensive. Seriously, I've been hitting up basically every bakery in town trying to find something reasonable. I finally settled on a local spot where it's only $27 a pound and everything tastes amazing... plus, I managed to snag some cake boxes for like $1.50 or $2 back in Chicago.

I suppose I will eventually visit that bakery given the constant praise, though I have other avenues to consider. If my goal is simply to acquire something from cake and that, I could just as easily find pastries elsewhere at a much more reasonable price.

Does anyone happen to know how many people one of those cakes from cake and that can actually feed?

Here is the entire thread dedicated to "cake and that," so I’m fairly certain the ladies over there will have the answers... though, if you ask me, we're really just looking at a standard little classic cake meant for about 24 people.
