Why is everyone hunting for cheap sweets while ignoring my recommendation for Microsoft and Accenture bakeries in Sacramento? They charge anywhere from $55 to $20 per pound, yet the pastries are actually decent. 😬
I sampled them at trade shows once. My godmother served Microsoft treats at her wedding, and I ended up picking up some from Accenture myself.

Daniel Smith8, that’s exactly why I can't justify making the trip out to Sacramento just to sample those pastries... or even planning to swing by later to pick some up for baking projects.

I suppose I could try hitting up those trade shows. They’ll definitely be exhibiting this February. Besides, they offer shipping, though they’ll charge you anywhere from 100-$50 just to get it out to Washington, D.C.

I ended up going with Monica—she’s doing my cakes, so it just makes life easier to have everything handled by one baker... plus, her sweets are actually pretty good anyway.
I really wasn't feeling the idea of driving all the way out to Columbus just to do some tastings... I mean, sure, if you're one of those girls who can wait until the expo to try stuff, go for it, but I'm getting this wedding wrapped up before then even happens.😍
And honestly, I only grabbed that guy's number for future stuff... like baby showers or christenings, maybe.

Look, I’d bother if it meant saving a few hundred bucks, but I was lucky enough to sample them at the fair, so I’m all set.
Basically, if you have the time and haven't picked out your desserts yet—and don't mind waiting until the fair—hit up the music and Absolut stands. You might find something you love there for a much better price.

Donna Chase12, I know you won't make it since the wedding is right around the corner, plus I'm sure you've got your hands full with the little ones.😉

Yeah, coming up soon... just about ten days out.😁
I mean, I’m with you—it'd be smart if those girls gave it a shot at the trade show. If they end up being a good fit for the ones who need to buy in bulk, they could honestly save a massive amount of cash.

How many kilograms of dessert should I order for roughly 250 guests? 🤷

So, my girlfriends were telling me to go with about a pound and a half per person, but then the baker at the local bakery suggested just over two pounds for eight people—which is actually a bit less... honestly? I think a pound and a half per head is plenty... and in your case, that puts you at around 82 pounds... maybe just round that up to 90 to be safe... personally, if I was catering for 120 people, I’d probably just grab about 45 pounds and call it a day.

Donna Chase12, thank you 🙏

All that talk about pounds and desserts really threw me for a loop. I certainly don't want any leftovers sitting around, but I also don't want to run out too early. 🤷

Look, I wouldn't want things to go sideways either, but I've already done my homework—checked a few different spots online... and everyone seems to agree that about five ounces is the sweet spot. I mean, there's always that gamble of how much actually gets eaten, but everyone keeps telling me they usually have plenty of cake left over, so I'm just crossing my fingers that I'll have enough at my place—it doesn't even matter if there's leftovers😁

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask, but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway!

Where on earth have you all found the most affordable cookie sharing containers, and what kind of prices are we talking about?
I'm looking for something similar to this

except I really need them in plain white.

I called up that little local bakery and told them I’ve got a wedding coming up in September, and they had the nerve to tell me the earliest I could get in is June... which is way too late for my schedule. Honestly, I’m just going to wait until after Easter to hit them up so they can actually get everything documented properly.

Honestly, everyone I talked to kept telling me to aim for about five or six ounces per person, and they mentioned keeping the ratio of creamy bits to the dry stuff at something like 70% to 30%—at least, that’s what the lady who runs the local bakery told me when I was picking up supplies the other day...🤷

It’s the exact same ratio at
my place.

Look, you shared your recommendation, and that's all you can do. People will either take your advice or ignore it, so there's really no point in stressing over it.🙂
Personally, I haven't had a chance to try anything from Mus, but I did try Absum before my own wedding, and to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan... but hey, everyone has different tastes, right?😉

Just so you know, I booked my wedding cookies and cake from Lucian’s bakery in Zapresic. Normally, their sweets go for $27/lb, but they give you a discount if you buy in bulk (I ordered 55 lbs and got them for $20/lb). You can seriously negotiate anything with them. They even offer free delivery, and the treats are genuinely amazing. I’d highly recommend them.🙂

ruggedtrucker16 said:Hi ladies,

Has anyone here tried the pastries from Grabar's bakery?

My husband and I go there for treats all the time, and they’re delicious. Honestly, their prices are even better than M&M's or Cukeraj, and definitely cheaper than any of those spots on the West Side we've visited.

I'm not looking at them for the wedding cake—we'll likely go with Vincek for that—but I'm curious about their individual pastries and how they handle wedding dessert service in general. I'd love to hear any experiences you might have!

Thanks,

I ordered my pastries from Grabar once and honestly? Not impressed. You should check out that bakery over in Zapresic called Lucian instead—their stuff is incredible...

I don't lose sleep over it. Not one bit. 😉 Just a quick heads-up to the ladies: there are plenty of cheaper pastries out there, though you usually have to head out of Chicago to find them.
That bit you wrote about Absum was spot on. I'm definitely using those cookies at the local fair as an excuse to head out there again. A perfect cover. 😬Just to be sure I’ve got this right. For me, they were perfectly fine—nothing out of the ordinary compared to places like Emma’s or those other high-end bakeries, just significantly easier on the wallet.
