Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll definitely swing by Monica’s to sample those pastries. And thanks for the tip on the cookies, though I've already made up my mind—I'm capping it at about a pound per person.
How did your guests react to the cakes? Did they actually enjoy them, or did you end up with a mountain of leftovers?

man, seriously, so many people kept coming up to me to compliment them... and honestly, being totally objective here—they were incredible. There wasn't a single cake left, mostly because I only ordered eight more than the guest count, plus I had a big main cake too. To top it off, the waiter told me the photographer's assistant straight-up polished off five of them😂.... and who knows where they ended up🤣

hmm... there were about 15 different kinds; 70% creamy stuff, 30% dry pastries... I only managed to eat one single dessert because I honestly couldn't handle anything else... felt kind of bad since I couldn't eat, especially because the food was overall phenomenal

Donna Chase12, I sent an inquiry over to Monica. I'll see what she says about the cake—flavor, presentation, all that jazz. 😉
I'm truly glad you were satisfied. 🙂

Does anyone have the email address for the local orientation office? Send it my way via DM if you do.

Has anyone here tried the treats from a local bakery? Our Hilton is gifting us a wedding cake made by them... Does anyone know what their pricing looks like?
Eh, also—what do you guys think about how many pastries I should get for roughly 150 guests? They’ll be served later at the hotel, but I also need enough for both my place and my fiancé's. Would 30 kg be plenty? I don't expect more than 50 people to show up at my place—honestly, even that feels like a lot since my apartment is pretty small and I can't really host a huge crowd...

I think you’ve got more than enough—honestly, probably overkill—but I guess it all comes down to how many people actually show up for dessert... at my place, we had so much food and so many different options that the sweets were basically an afterthought...

Thanks Donna Chase12! I’m actually starting to think the same thing—it feels like a bit much... wouldn't it be better to focus more on variety, maybe adding some different savory options or cold deli platters? 🙂 Then again, I really don't want to end up in that awkward spot where we run out of dessert, even though I'm pretty sure people won't go overboard on the sweets...
If I remember correctly, you had about 20kg for roughly 122 guests, right? And you still had plenty left over... did you make those treats at a local bakery, or were they homemade? Did you end up sending the leftovers home with your guests?

There’s probably at least 10 pounds left over... my mom hosted about 40 people for lunch on the second day and was just handing it out to everyone...

Here’s a quick update for everyone: I just sent an email over to a local bakery, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how fast they got back to me—and how incredibly kind they were!
Anyway, a kilogram of treats there is going to be $23... which seems like a fair price to me, but what do you all think?
On another note, my aunt mentioned that if I'm catering for about 150 people at a restaurant, I should probably aim for somewhere between 20-30kg, while having about 3-10kg of the homemade stuff on hand (usually around 5kg works best).
They also offer packaging options: plastic containers at $0.33/unit or cardboard ones for $0.83/unit.
They can even pre-package everything into little boxes—that would be $0.67 per box—and each one holds roughly 3 to 4 ounces of sweets.
What are your thoughts on this whole setup?

We ordered our cake from a local bakery, and honestly, they absolutely nailed it. For days afterward, I kept getting texts and emails from guests asking where we got it because it was hands-down the best cake they’d ever tasted. It was truly incredible. We ordered enough for 120 people—though since our guest count ended up being slightly smaller, the slices were a bit larger, yet somehow there still wasn't enough to go around! ;-))) As for the cost, it came out to $5.00 per slice. Highly recommended!

Mmm, looks delicious! Seriously, that looks so good. How many of those did you end up ordering?

Hey there, quick question for you.
So, I’m planning on having a cake as a gift, and I’m thinking about doing those classic tiered cakes. How many layers should we actually order if we're looking at roughly 90 guests? And what kind of stand should I be looking for? Honestly, I’m completely lost here...
But most importantly, should I go with a different flavor for every single tier? 🤷 Has anyone here dealt with this before? I’m trying to figure out which flavors are basically crowd-pleasers—you know, the kind of stuff that almost everyone will enjoy, at least for the most part. 🤣
Maybe something fruity, or maybe chocolate... 😕

I ended up grabbing 130 individual servings and one sliced cake...

Bradley Castillo74—I’d probably go with chocolate and some kind of fruit one... maybe something with seasonal berries or whatever's fresh right now.

I honestly feel like you should just talk directly to the bakery where the cake came from... if you tell them how many guests are attending the wedding, they can usually give you a solid estimate themselves.
We’re actually in the same boat—we have a cake as a gift from the Hilton, and when we asked where it was from, they told us we could head over to the bakery, sample their various cakes, and work out all the details with them—everything from the specific flavors to the overall design. As far as flavor combinations go, though, I’m really not a fan of mixing things up... I much prefer sticking to one single flavor. We’ll probably end up going with a parfait style, since it's a bit lighter—most people seem to prefer that anyway—and since I find heavy desserts a little too much, a lighter option sounds perfect to me.

👍 That sounds awesome! We're thinking of doing the exact same thing, and honestly, that parfait option doesn't sound great to me either... I was actually thinking maybe a cheesecake with whipped cream—something that isn't too heavy—would pair perfectly with a classic American BBQ menu! 😉

I’m all for mixing up the flavors when you’re making a bunch of cakes... gives people more to choose from, you know? Plus, the servers usually just check in with everyone individually to see what they're feeling anyway.

But then again, not everyone is a fan of cheesecake; I personally can't stand it. On the other hand, I suspect almost everyone enjoys chocolate cake—it seems to be the perfect way to wrap up a meal, whether you've just finished eating heavy Southern BBQ, classic New England seafood, or any of those rich Midwestern comfort foods we grew up with.

Wait, who even brought up cheesecake?🤔
Anyway, I'm with you on that one.

I'll see what these folks have to say about it, though I think I actually brought up the cheesecake just a second before you did! ☕
The girl who’s planning on picking it up for me mentioned the cheese was incredible at some wedding she went to a while back. By the way, what kind of cakes were yours made of?
Come to think of it, not everyone is even a chocolate person. If I try to make sure every single guest is happy, I’m going to lose my mind... 🙄

Well, that’s true, but I’m fairly certain more people prefer chocolate over cheesecake. In my house of five, we all eat chocolate, whereas only two of us touch the cheese.
