Won't shut down

So, I’m sitting here staring at my Windows 10 machine, thinking everything is running smoothly and original...

Every time I go to turn the computer off, the standard "Shut Down" option has completely vanished from the menu, leaving me with nothing but "Update and Shut Down"

The kicker is, when I actually click that, it doesn't even seem to perform an update; instead, it just cycles back to that same "Update and Shut Down" prompt—it’s almost as if the system starts the shutdown process only to reboot right back into that same loop over and over again.

... I mean, obviously, you gotta let it finish during shutdown and startup. Just let it do its thing until the update is totally done. If you cut it off mid-stream, you might end up bricking something, and then you're stuck needing a clean install of Windows 10 to fix the mess.

Well, you see, it’s not just about what happens during a standard reboot; the real headache occurs when you try to shut the system down entirely. You go through the whole process of powering off, but once you attempt to restart, the machine just kicks back into its old state without actually running any of those updates. It’s almost as if the system is stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the changes at all.

She actually warned me that if I shut it down, all my unsaved progress would just vanish into thin air...

but honestly, it just refuses to turn off.
