Dana Wright4 said:Ladies, has anyone around here picked up any of those cookies from Bond in Columbus lately?

I’m planning on heading down there next week to hammer out an agreement, so I’m looking for some fresh, firsthand accounts from anyone who's dealt with them lately.
I’m going to need about 150 pounds of cake just to make sure I don't overdo it...

😘

There has been some talk about them before. The women who have tried their sweets are quite satisfied. I personally order them for celebrations, and they are wonderful.

Lawrence Wilson77... $16per pound. They don't have a website, but we have a phone number if you need it.

Do they have a website?

They don't have a site, but I know they want $16..

A few girls used to rave about them here, but now I’m looking for some fresh perspectives...🙏

I know there’s been plenty of praise, which is why they were my first choice... the price point and quality are hard to beat.

But my husband actually ran into them yesterday at a local pub during a beer festival, and he had the chance to chat with some local women who absolutely raved about their pastries...

So now, I'm just left wondering...😕 😕 😕

Seriously, Dana Wright4? Honestly, they’re my top pick... I have no idea why anyone would criticize them. 😕

Benjamin Edwards9, my advice is simple: buy a pound of assorted pastries and start tasting. You won't be able to miss. Their sweets are excellent.

Do you guys actually double-check what goes into these cakes? Like, if there’s someone with an allergy in the room, do you give them a heads-up about the ingredients before they dig in?
😬

We didn't have any allergy issues, but our vegetarians ended up getting baked savory pastries instead of cake.👍I didn't realize it was part of the plan—I just mentioned we had 3 or 4 vegetarians so they could prep something special. They had fish or maybe fried cheese and mushrooms for their main course, and for appetizers, they just had cheese. Then, when it came time for dessert, the girls told me they got these amazing warm savory turnovers instead of cake. So, yeah...

Hey ladies, I could really use some advice here. I’m still getting used to all the different dessert traditions since I didn't grow|grow up here in the States, and I'm feeling a bit lost on what kind of cake would be best. I tried a Red Velvet recently and honestly, it was delicious, but it feels a little too basic for a wedding reception... I really want to go with something that feels extra special. Maybe something rich and chocolatey? Does anyone have any good ideas? What kind of cakes are you all planning on having?...

vividpilot41-it all depends on what kind of aesthetic you're going for. if you want an Ice Wind style, you can't just layer them haphazardly because that sponge is incredibly soft. first, you decide on the look, then you pick the variety. 🙂

in my opinion, an Ice Wind isn't exactly a beginner-friendly cake—especially considering that sponge needs to bake for loooong... in the oven.

Hey there, fellow American living abroad! 🙂
We actually went with a three-tier cake—one layer was vanilla cream with classic sponge, the second featured hazelnut cream and hazelnut sponge, and the third was chocolate on chocolate. We used fondant for the outer finish.
It was absolutely delicious.
If you're leaning toward a chocolate theme, you could try mixing things up—maybe one tier with dark chocolate, one with hazelnut chocolate, and one with white chocolate. Honestly, you can never go wrong with extra chocolate.😬
Lately, I've noticed people using parfait or ice cream-based creams quite a bit because they're so light and refreshing.

So, I’ve been thinking about this whole cake idea:
image
Maybe one chocolate suitcase cake, one Black Forest, and then maybe a fruit one? I haven't actually reached out to any local bakeries yet—so I’m not totally sure if they can pull this off—but that’s the dream, anyway. And hey, if those suitcase cakes end up being too small to feed everyone, I guess I can always just have a backup cake or two on standby.

I’m planning on keeping a cake in reserve as well. A design like this shouldn't be an issue to pull off. I recall someone mentioning something about small suitcases, though the name escapes me! If you scroll back through the thread, I’m sure you’ll find it. I was told my Black Forest won't work for stacking because the filling is too soft, so I think I'll just have that as the top tier and use a firmer chocolate sponge for the base instead...

Joe, this is absolutely incredible!!!! 👏
Up until now, I was leaning toward something totally basic, but once I saw this, I was completely head over heels. 😍

I wasn't sure if you were asking whether different tiers or a specific shape would actually work.
I know a bakery that can definitely handle it—highly recommend them based on past experience: sweet secret 😉

I just put in my order for some cookies and a cake from Em's bakery. Their treats are seriously amazing!
The only thing stressing me out right now is finding little bride and groom toppers for the cake—everything I see looks so tacky.
Does anyone know if those marzipan figures actually look good? Help a girl out, what should I do?🤔 🤔

People are saying Vince has gone downhill. Is there any truth to that?
I tried their cookies and they were actually "dry."

That’s why they call them "dry" 🤣 🤣 🤣

Just kidding, mostly. 😁
