Hopefully we see some actual pace during FP3.

Nearly two seconds off the testing times from similar conditions—looks like the top teams are just babying their engines for the long haul.

As for Mercedes-AMG and Red Bull Racing, they seem close enough—though I've got my doubts about whether Mercedes-AMG can actually hold that engine mode steady during qualifying.
Alpine F1 Team looks rough, and Aston Martin isn't doing much better.

In this situation under US guidelines, only the child whose mom is sick goes into isolation. Not their friends from daycare, and definitely not the parents. That's assuming the kid of the sick mom is healthy, obviously.
We dealt with plenty of cases like that at the daycare.

I can confirm what I wrote wasn't actually the case—just a bad retelling.

mellowskipper said:It's more likely the father just got sick leave rather than actual isolation orders.

Actually, a buddy and his wife had to isolate with their kid because the other kid at daycare tested positive. So there they were—forced into isolation as third-degree contacts, if you want to paraphrase. 😵

It’s likely because kids rarely show symptoms—or they're so mild people don't even bother reporting them—plus, trying to catch that tiny window when they actually test positive is nearly impossible.

Disclaimer: I didn't hear this directly from the source, just a secondhand account—so take it with a grain of salt.

And you really think I'll take you seriously as a commentator? 🙄

Look, I care about whether the news is actually true, not who’s delivering it—besides, driftingtinker posted this too. I might slip up with a fake story by mistake, but this one is easy enough to verify on Google (I’d seen hints of it earlier anyway, so it wasn't exactly a shocker):
https://www.defensenews.com/congress...-defense-bill/
https://www.dailysabah.com/politics/...ssile-purchase

Trump still has to sign off on the defense bill. It's just like last year when they slipped those Nord Stream 2 sanctions in—forced Allseas to pull out of the whole project.

That’s really the core issue with Turkey—they went out and bought weapons from that guy... bad Putin. Not to mention they're basically exporting terrorism all over the place, too. ☕

- Russell will probably get the DQ because he used up one extra set of tires (mostly because they put him on Bottas's)

- Charles gets a Charles Three Place grid penalty for next week

So maybe there won't be any points for Russell? The guy is cursed—just the polar opposite of Hamilton.
Or maybe he slides by since they fixed the mistake during the same SC.

I'm hoping they swap out Hamster next time too; he earned it, driving like he was actually Hamilton behind the wheel.
Just another "what were they thinking?" moment from the Mercedes pit wall🙏. They haven't looked this lost since the Hockenringring, but honestly, even Ferrari couldn't mess up this badly🙏
.
Perez is absolutely clinical🙏🙏🙏. Going from the back of the pack to third—pushing for first at one point—is basically his career highlight. Alexander Albon tried a similar strategy early on and ended up stuck in sixth—with mistakes like these, he should've been fighting for a podium. I guess it’s finally obvious to Helmut Marko that they need to bring Perez into the fold.☕

this aged well 😬
wiredfalcon2 said:Yeah, > has that kind of advantage on a standard track length. In qualifying when there's no traffic. Everything was the exact opposite of that today.

We aren't even talking about a 3-5 tenth gap anymore—it’s closer to 2. There are tracks out there where people clock 1:15s and more, and this isn't even that much shorter. Besides, Red Bull Racing actually brought their summer updates, whereas Germany didn't.
Max Verstappen is probably going to have a mental breakdown at this rate. He’s been getting picked apart all season—first Lance Stroll got him in Turkey, and now he’s losing out here by less than 0.06. He's always right there, yet he just can't seem to close the gap.

Valtteri Bottas leaned on his experience to pull it off, but George Russell really stepped up when it counted, too. Honestly, this kid will probably settle in over the next few races and start snatching wins just like Lewis Hamilton does. For the fans, it’d be much better if we had both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton on the grid next race.
Casey Hill57 said:Does anyone feel like going over to Bottas and telling him this is just a practice session rather than an actual race?
Poor guy is really stressing himself out over nothing, but he just won't listen.

He almost had him—if they hadn't gone and scrubbed that lap from the records. 😁 So, you've got a guy jumping into that car for the first time, and he’s already out there shaving tenths off the lap time during Free Practice 2—it's almost ridiculous.

Maybe it’s just that Williams Racing effect—you struggle with a total junker for long enough, then you finally hop into a decent car and everything feels effortless. It’s like finally getting your cast off and realizing your arm actually works again. 🙂
Well, Russell jumps straight to the front. Maybe they should have just given him the seat back in 2021 instead? 🙂
First off, let's hope Lewis recovers without any serious symptoms.

Hulk seems like the logical pick here 😈 anyway, he’s already driven a Mercedes clone before, haha. But maybe Mercedes is too scared to actually seat someone talented—what if they end up being better than Bottas?—so they might just dig up some mid-tier talent instead, IMHO.
It’s like they say—it’s always darkest before the dawn. I just hope the driver is actually ready for what's likely his final outing in Formula 1, Abu Dhabi.

According to the news over in Greece:
Pompeo’s visit prompted by Turkey’s Patriot missiles

The Greeks are absolutely loving this partnership between the Turkish and Russian defense industries. I mean, really... what could be a better alliance than Putin and Erdogan?
One sells to the other just to make sure they can directly threaten the Greeks.

The same logic applies to the Americans and their bases in Turkey.

Everyone conveniently forgot about that whole Cyprus-Greece S-300 mess... which, let's be honest, happened before Putin was even a factor:

Keith Barrett2 said:Man, either your people have superhuman eyesight or you guys are carrying around giant ID cards.😂

So, wait—is it the same deal for you? Like, do they set up checkpoints a few miles inside the city instead of just at the borders?

That was at the national border (coming in/out of Facebook), which I was crossing for medical reasons. They cared way more about my hospital summons than any of my paperwork—they didn't even glance at the docs.

Back home, they'd probably be asking people to flip their IDs around and show them every single detail.
Keith Barrett2 said:Man, they seriously screwed up here in my city and basically created a perfect storm for spreading this damn virus.

So, get this—there are two main ways you can even enter town now. Instead of having checkpoints at both of those entrances, they decided to put the cops at one single spot about 2-1.9 miles miles deep inside the city limits. Now everyone is just stuck in these massive lines of cars waiting to be checked.

And here’s the kicker: like 90% of the people driving through there actually live right there in those 2-1.9 miles outskirts neighborhoods. Under the current rules, they're totally allowed to head into town for groceries and stuff, so they have to pass through.

Every single resident passing through ends up in close contact with an officer because they have to hand over their ID. Then the cop grabs your ID with his hands—after he's already been touching hundreds of other IDs while wearing those gloves—and then hands it right back to you. It’s just common sense, right? Total madness.🙂

They should be monitoring from a distance—which is actually what they do where I live (not in the US).

Even at my local bakery, the woman puts bread into bags using the same gloves she used to handle cash or credit cards from previous customers. Seriously, haven't they heard of tongs? I actually had to crank up the oven and bake my bread for another 10 minutes just to feel safe.

But hey, what can you do? I guess the best bet is just flooding the government with complaints about these little details that actually drive the infection rates up.
Benjamin Barnes2 said:A few days ago, the NSCZ was practically begging everyone to just stay put and not leave their homes.
Now, the Department of Justice is out there slapping fines on anyone who ignores those requests.
I actually witnessed this firsthand tonight—a DOJ vehicle was at a checkpoint, pulling cars over and checking addresses just to write up $150 tickets.

I haven't personally seen a hundred-dollar fine handed out yet, but I definitely saw what was happening...

It’s chaos—though, honestly, I wonder how many of those will actually hold up in court. Regardless, I don't see much point in heading out tonight anyway. I guess that's why they cut the hours at the local grocery stores.

It’s almost funny how every single country in the European Union has cooked up its own weird version of these rules. Store hours, public transit, freedom of movement, fine amounts, quarantine protocols, cell phone tracking, airport status... it's just total madness.
Joseph Taylor11 said:Here is the conflicting info I've been seeing lately:
1. There's a $30,000 fine.$0.00
2. The fine ranges from $3,000 up to $30,000.$0.00
3. And now this: there is no fine at all, they "just send you back."

So, a couple of questions:
1. Has anyone here actually been caught without their papers? If so, what happened?
2. Does anyone have the actual facts or know exactly what the penalties are—or better yet, where they're officially posted?

Hmm, sounds like they leaked that $30k figure just to keep people from swarming the checkpoints or trying to cut through side roads. Clever trick—looks like our brains only start working when things hit the fan.

crimsonhawk23 said:So how do you explain the virus spreading in places where it's consistently over 75°F? Like in Australia—where they just wrapped up their summer and now have 300 cases...
Or look at Malaysia (428), Qatar (337), or Bahrain (214).??

The risk of transmission seems lower in warmer climates—you can already see that trend playing out.

But it’s still there. People are infectious even without showing symptoms—enough to pass it to anyone standing too close. It doesn't even need to linger on surfaces for long to do its thing.
