Ugh, I’m dealing with two headaches again. First off, my new address isn't showing up in my favorites—it's just... not there. And second, don't go expecting a massive library from me yet, because I literally just finished setting up my brand-new PC and haven't had time to download a ton of music or videos yet.
It won't even let me search for help either...
Alright, then you can help me get all these settings squared away before I actually start downloading—and honestly, walk me through the actual download process too, because I barely understood a single word of that tutorial up above.
Is downloading stuff through Microsoft actually free? I need an answer, please.

Look, if you actually want to get this sent over to a cell phone, it’s gotta be an mp4—though I guess you could probably squeeze an avi through if you really had to...

Ryan Hall7 said:Look, I’d love to just call you an idiot here—really, I would—but I won't, because trust me, I've been the clueless one plenty of times before... There are both extensions and actual formats like MPEG-4 and .avi out there. And honestly? The easiest way to turn an MPEG-4 file into an .avi is to just rename the file extension itself. Now, Auto Gordian Knot is also a solid piece of software, and I always tell beginners to start with that one first.

I grabbed that other one too, but Dr. DivX is definitely the winner in my book. As for converting stuff, seriously, just rename the extension to .avi and call it a day...👍

Wow, what an incredible piece of software—I just compressed this down to 2.8 MB, and honestly, you can barely even tell there was any loss in quality at all... seriously impressive.

Thanks, I'm downloading it right now.

Every time I try to fire this thing up, I get hit with😁MPEG-4 codec installation was not detected.
Apparently, I need to go grab the latest MPEG-4 codec... where the hell am I supposed to download that from?

Check it out over at External Mirror 2 Stable.

And hey, if you get one of those annoying security popups—just look up at the top right, hit that yellow bar right under the address bar, and tell it to download the file.

Thanks man, downloading it right now.🙏

And it’s not even shareware, either.

Man, I can't get this thing to actually download... it just sits there saying "your download will start shortly," but nothing happens! Then it tells me to "select a different mirror" and—surprise, surprise—it still won't work. Hey, Ryan Hall7, any idea how I can actually grab this? Or just let me know if you want me to shoot you an email via PM instead. Thanks.

Ryan Hall7 said:So what if it's shareware? Who cares.

Look, I'm not paying for it—but if you think trying to crack stuff is the move, go ahead... you'll just end up with a desktop full of viruses.

Austin Flores52 said:I went ahead and ran some tests—shot about 3 and a half minutes at 1280x1024 resolution and ended up with a 9MB file that looks absolutely killer.
Everything just comes down to how you dial in your video options... specifically which encoder you pick and how you tweak the settings. Your choices really depend on what you've actually got installed on your rig.
In this specific run, I was rocking the x264 Build data from 01/29/2008, using the libx264 core 58 svn-736bm (vfw); set to Single Pass - Lossless, and just left everything else on the default settings.

Not bad at all! So you're saying you did that entire thing using this program? Is it shareware or something?😕

Hold up—this is just shareware...

Ryan Hall7 said:Look, you can do all of that with Dr. Divx too. I was just pointing out which specific formula you should be using if you actually want the quality to look decent. Sure, you could compress that video down to a measly 1 MB, but let's be real—it’s gonna look like absolute garbage.

Man, I don't care about the quality right now. My main priority is just getting the file size down... seriously. Anyway, do you happen to have a link where I can download that Dr. Divx software?🤷

What do you mean by "more detail"? I just downloaded CamStudio to record my screen, thinking I’d finally start cranking out some tutorials. The thing is, CamStudio spits out these AVI files—so if I record a quick two-and-a-half-minute clip, I’m looking at maybe 50 or 60 MB... which honestly feels like way too much

I’ve got a massive headache here. I’m using CamStudio to record my tutorials, but the file sizes are absolutely ridiculous—the files are just way too huge. Does anyone know of a decent program to shrink them down or compress them?
