Do I really need a PhD for advice like that? 😕 It’s like those people telling you to eat more fruit and hit the gym once in a while 😁 As if I should have come to see you guys just for that. Give me some actual pills!
Well, he brings up Mance since you mentioned him. That’s actually how I first heard about Captaina Teleći srce. Or maybe I didn't, but I'm not going to overcomplicate things right now.
So we get this listening session of Captaina, complete with live playing from Mance—who clearly respects and acknowledges Beefhearta, right? There’s plenty of younger crowd out there who looks up to Mance, and they'll end up loving Captaina just because their idol does. There you go. 👍
Hey, Random Reader (RR), the rerun starts in an hour. I’m gonna sit there and watch that little creature rubbing its paws against its slimy ankles. There is zero chance that's fake. You should watch too, RR. I bet you'll see exactly what I mean.
As for karaoke? No way. Not in a million years. Unless George Michael is watching me. Don't even ask, RR.
?! How? How did she actually act that out? And you want to know my biggest mystery? That little girl—the young lead actress—at the start? Those expressions she was making... she looked terrified. She wasn't acting, period! How did they pull that off? Was the guy actually hitting her mom while she had no clue the cameras were rolling? How?! Or was it some computer-generated stuff?! I don't get it, that was 100% pure, raw terror... and it lasted at least 25 seconds. Someone explain that to me if you can, random reader!
So I started watching this based on a recommendation, then realized I’d actually seen it before. All those screams, the kidnapped kids, all that horrible stuff came rushing back. Honestly? I couldn't finish it. Now I'm kicking myself! But I did catch that final confrontation scene (insert comment here:_______)—that standoff between the two of them—and man, it was incredible. I wouldn't even call it acting; it felt too real for that. It reminded me what a great movie this is, and then that wave of regret hit. Such... such good characters... how perfectly played... I don't know... there's just something about it. I don't know if I'm being too much of a fanboy right now, but whatever. You gotta be a fanboy. That's my final word. 🙏
Mike Legend Care, you absolute legend, what's next on the list? I'm waiting.
I might sound stupid here, but whatever... I didn't like the movie, but that's besides the point.
When Gandalf made that platform and stood on it to levitate... It’s such a blatant middle finger to Newton's third law! You know, action and reaction. Look, I get it, it's fantasy, but there should be at least some basic level of physics involved.
Hehe, call me an idiot if you want, thanks, glad I could help...
And Jane? She’s basically public enemy number one for all those veterans in America; they absolutely loathe her. I was hanging out on some Barbarella site and a sketchy forum once, and you just see these long manifestos from veterans pouring out how much they hate Jane Fonda and everything she stands for. I'm scrolling through, and man, there are just so many of them. It's like they all searched for Barbarella on Google just to spit on anything connected to her. Total overkill. Jane is like the ultimate villain over here.
Yeah, so you take punk, mix it with beer and a bunch of uncontrolled, angry, misunderstood guys, and suddenly you've got something ten times worse. Punk isn't evil! That whole logic is flawed because if you follow it, you’d have to toss out country music and punk too. Next!😁
Look, I know this is off-topic, but the review for Showgirls basically calls it one of those "so bad it's good" cult classics—pure trash cinema. Since that kind of thing doesn't move the needle at the box office, they only gave it 1.5 stars. At least they realized what it actually is. Personally, I live for those trashy flicks; my pick for the most SC movie in the post above proves that. And dumb Jane Fonda absolutely hates her first big film! What an idiot!
True, except Hitler Youth members fight on the battlefield while the Hollywood Youth just fight in the media. And Verhoeven put them right back in the fray. Paul Verhoeven directed it, and if you ask me, he’s the real deal. He’s a great director! He also did Showgirls, which is way more than just smut (just like Starship Troopers is more than just an action flick), plus RoboCop, which has its own charm, Basic Instinct with that famous leg cross, and Total Recall with Schwarzenegger—that's a solid movie too. I took a quick look at AllMovie and saw they gave Starship two and a half stars, but Showgirls only got one and a half?!? Who even runs that site? The only thing I'll admit is that his recent one, Hollow Man, was a complete disaster. Terrible movie. He’s got two other films that actually got decent ratings. Who has time to watch all this... Plus they're in Danish. It says here he graduated in math and physics. That just proves he's not sane...
Oh, and speaking of SC, I’d suggest Barbarella—man, what a weird movie. I binged the whole thing! (Okay, lying, some parts are a bit slow, but still, it's a legend.) It's a film adaptation of a comic, super erotic, tons of color, weird naive sets and stuff. The movie is pure kitsch, like those old Generalić types and everything else. When Jane Fonda looks at you with those huge, naive eyes, you just can't resist! Insane.
Picture this scenario. This guy walks into your life. He’s fit, looks great, everything he wears—the tees, the heavy belts—it all just fits him perfectly. He knocks you off your feet. And then you realize he actually listens to country music.😲 You just sit there thinking, "I should have seen that coming," but by then, it's already over. How do you even explain that it's bad? Deep down, we all know that stuff is pure evil 😁 but you can't prove it. You just can't! Sure, people are happy while they listen to it. They drink, but they aren't doing drugs. They dance, they're having a blast, they connect with the singer over some heartbreak, and then they smash a few glasses. Maybe that's it? Breaking glasses is a sin! It's tough...
Techno is easy. The people listening to it are popping ecstasy, so whatever. Techno is evil. But country music? That's enough to make me call you bad and give you a slap in the face!
lady a said:I mostly listen to Leonard Cohen (the Pixies don't even come close when it comes to lyrics)
Ahaha, nobody listens to the Pixies for the lyrics 😁 Look, the Pixies aren't for everyone. Not under any circumstances. And I’m not saying that because they're only for "refined" listeners. No. It's just like how Death metal or some weird experimental classical stuff isn't for everybody. Only people who treat music and sonic exploration like a full-time job can dig through everything. The rest of us mortals just listen to what we like. The only real problem is when people start listening to country radio hits 🙂 . Wait, that didn't come out right. By that logic, country would be in the same league. And honestly, I haven't figured out a way to prove to anyone that country music is objectively bad. Has anyone else cracked that code yet?
I tried pushing Lipse and Mercury Rev on my crew—you know, some more sane stuff—along with plenty of other great tracks, but nothing stuck. My buddy loves the Pixies, but only because he heard they were legends. For anything else, I’m gonna have to work a lot harder.
Man, how do you even talk to those snobs who look down on "regular" people who just listen to MTV? What do you even say to them? They’ve never even heard of the basics, like Pixies or Sonic Youth. To them, the stuff we listen to is like some alien planet they didn't even know existed. How am I supposed to answer when they ask, "So, what do you listen to?"
Look, Peter said exactly what I'm saying. A movie isn't just some storybook. You have to get your hands dirty to turn a simple tale into an actual film.
I just flashed back to this one specific scene, a total Hitchcockian moment from Psycho. That detective walks into the old lady's house, creeping up those stairs, acting all calm like he’s got everything under control. But he doesn't. You’re terrified for him because he has no clue what’s coming, and honestly, neither do you. He hits the top of the stairs, and suddenly the camera angle shifts—looking down from the ceiling while he’s looking left and right—then the door swings open silently but fast. This old woman charges at him with a massive knife and just takes him out. Man, she caught me so off guard! The sheer dread as she stalks toward him while he’s staring the wrong way... that second and a half was pure cinematic perfection. All the stuff about her actually being the son, or him keeping her in the basement, or his whole killing spree? None of that mattered in that moment. It didn't matter. The only thing that mattered was how that scene manipulated your headspace.
Now, when I watch modern horror movies that rely on some two-meter beast jumping out of the dark with a chainsaw to slice a screaming woman? That’s not scary. It’s just loud. It only "scares" you because a chainsaw suddenly blasts through five surround-sound speakers at max volume. Total garbage.
