That's entirely possible. 😬

matematicar said:That’s the absolute truth. Though, looking back fifteen or twenty years, things weren't quite like this, at least not here in the States.

True, but it isn't just localized to us.

About ten years ago, for instance, I used to stumble home dead drunk without a single worry in the world. There was simply no reason to be afraid.
This morning, walking back around 5:00 AM, I found myself glancing over my shoulder every few steps just to make sure I wasn't being followed.
I can only imagine how much more terrifying it must be for a woman.

The real issue lies with society as a whole, stemming primarily from widespread apathy and overly lenient laws that grant criminals, rapists, and thugs all sorts of "human rights." Just the other day, I read in the news about a guy who raped a five-year-old girl and only received a one-year suspended sentence! It's unbelievable. Why shouldn't someone feel uneasy walking home intoxicated when the system is this broken?

So, the problem isn't just "within our community," nor is it an issue between Americans and Mexicans. Quite the opposite.
Approaching the topic this way only serves to worsen the situation rather than providing any actual solution.

Just your average little American...

If you actually step up, we'll show you what being a true American is all about.😁 😉

I've already learned from you that every American sentence apparently starts with "well" or "anyway."😁

Pardocek, you were actually the one who kicked this whole thing off on this thread.

Great... you've managed to find one single instance where decent people stepped up to help an American in trouble.

Actually, the fact that Mexicans and Americans are involved here is purely coincidental; those same people could have just as easily helped a Turk, for example. This is simply a matter of good people doing good things. Nationality doesn't matter. (At least not to me—I'm not sure why nationality has suddenly become such a focal point for you and the rest of the "leftists").

Regardless, there's a certain level of solidarity among drivers since they're all in the same boat and understand the dangers of being out in Iraq.

It's hardly news that you don't know American, so it really doesn't matter for this story. 🙂

If nothing new is being presented, then what on earth are you looking for by nitpicking every single damn mistake in my posts?

I don't speak American.

I am not an American.

I am an American.

The Turks have been screwing me over for five hundred years.

Is this acceptable now?

Well, it seems we have an idiot who insists on ruining every single thread.

Arthur Cooper5 said:By using this example, you’re actually proving my point—this is an excellent question because even in the States, people often fail to
provide aid to victims. So, the question is a great way to gauge
humanity between nations that were recently at war with one another!

The case you brought up involves Germans in Germany, if I recall correctly.
I think if that happened in a third country, people would be much more helpful.

You missed the point entirely.

There is no humanity to speak of among people who have never even been at war, let alone among those who were fighting just a short while ago.

And I didn't just give you one single instance; there is a massive amount of evidence for this.
You see a man beating his wife in broad daylight right in the middle of downtown, and not a single passerby steps in to help.
Or take the recent case where some guy assaulted a sixteen-year-old girl, and nobody walking by lifted a finger. A similar thing happened on a train, where again, nobody intervened.

And now you want to measure humanity? Between Americans and Americans.

There, I wrote ACCIDENT.

Jebateb, I actually wrote ACCIDENT.

Well, I am an American.

ACCIDENT.

The most significant point of this entire thread is that I wrote ACCIDENT.

That really ought to be bolded.

Oops, I mean bolded.

Arthur Cooper5 said:Look, Michael Sullivan3, don't take this the wrong way!

I’m not angry. Why on earth would I be?

The question itself just feels incredibly stupid—maybe even idiotic. My apologies.

In Germany, for example, there’s this massive issue where people drive right past accidents and don't just fail to help, they don't even call 911 (even though everyone carries a smartphone these days). TV news outlets run these segments on it all the time; they’ll set up a sting operation, pull over those who drove by—which is most of them—and ask why they didn't stop. It's always the same excuses: "I didn't see anything" or "I was in a rush."

See, those are actual societal issues—apathy and a total lack of civic courage—rather than some petty debate about whether you'd help an American.

You know, when you're driving through Germany, you'll hear a radio report about an accident on one side of the highway, and then five minutes later, they announce another crash on the other side caused by people slamming on their brakes because they didn't see what happened initially. They won't even say if anyone was killed.

But that's beside the point. What matters is that here in the States, people are still wasting breath arguing over whether they'd help an American. 🙄
The reality is that most people wouldn't lift a finger for anyone.
Would you help a Mexican? in Close to Politics ·
And who exactly is delivering justice? Besides, who are these people who wouldn't lift a finger to help someone in a car accident just because that person is a Mexican? Who?

Before I even consider lending someone a hand, they need to prove to me they have been purely American through and through since the seventh century. 🙄

No, dustyscout53, I have nothing against the partisans. Nor do I have any issue with their pensions—specifically those who truly earned them on the front lines during WWII.
However, my grievance lies with those who slaughtered civilians, committed rapes, or simply stayed far away from the actual fighting. Are there people like that, dustyscout53? And should we even be allowed to discuss them or open up these topics?

Bravo. I wonder how things might have gone if you had first cleaned up those insults from the leftists and the unnecessary provocations stirred up by your colleague, for instance?

Actually, it doesn't matter. It's just the same old guerrilla tactics. Divert attention by bringing up unwelcome topics. Fine, I'll just start a new thread myself.

I would certainly offer a suggestion, but I am still awaiting approval from the Democratic National Committee.

Out of all those complications and headaches, the partisans bothered Michael Sullivan3 the most. 🙄
Actually, out of all that chaos, what bothered Whatever most was that the topic was started by Michael Sullivan3, who's living abroad.
It annoyed him that we're talking about partisans, but he definitely wouldn't mind if the discussion were about the heroes of the American Civil War. He'd be more than happy to sing their praises.

Regardless, I did a little digging, and that massive number of veterans receiving benefits is due to specific laws regarding survivor benefits, meaning those pensions go to the families of deceased service members. As for why it's structured that way, I haven't a clue, but there are only a few thousand living veterans currently in the US.

Still, I would be grateful for that link. 😁

pajdo, no worries at all. Here is the link: www.ssa.gov . Just head over to the "statistics" section and you can download just about any data you need in PDF format. 😉

What you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg. These pensions are being paid out to the families of deceased veterans. 😲 And then people wonder why there's such a cult following for figures like the old Soviet leaders. 😁
I might find myself singing their praises too if I were the grandson of a veteran collecting a monthly check based on my late grandfather's service. 😁

Anyway, what do the retirees say—the ones who worked honest, grueling jobs only to scrape by on tiny pensions and now have to scavenge through dumpsters to survive?

My apologies. You might find sarcasm more suitable for your style.
Look, trends happen. It’s certainly not my top priority.

That's how it is. Still, I have to give you credit for spotting trends despite being busy working in minefields and fighting for job security.
You asked, so I answered. 😉

I was asking about the discussion topics, not how much you donated to your checking account. This is a message board, after all; we start threads here. Though, I suppose it's vital for the community that Whewtaver made his donation to the American landmine clearance fund.
You're welcome. I am always happy to assist in the fight against illiteracy. 😁😎

It's just a shame you can't write properly either. Everyone, bit, see, right?

There might be as many as 700,000 of them. 😲 I really have an aversion to this kind of statistical inflation; it reminds me of how Mexicans handle things like Jasenovac. 🙄

Do you enjoy seeing numbers being inflated? If so, here is exactly what you’re looking for:

Statistical data from the Social Security Administration, Year II, Issue 3/2004.
Table 16.

Participants of NOR 64764.
Workers in certain positions within the workforce...
Internal Affairs and Justice 16619
Members of the US Army.
From 1941 to 1945, there were 28,925.
4. Former political prisoners 5814
Members of the former US Army 14156.
The National Academy of Sciences currently maintains a roster of 161 regular members.
The Parliamentary Executive Council and the Federal Executive Council.
There are 497 public sector employees currently on administrative retirement.
Members of the US Congress and Cabinet officials receive 337,846.00.
Article 38 regarding the Federal Executive Council staff, 72.
The miners at the "Tupljak" coal mine in Bisbee.
US Army 8005 2
American veterans 34323

The total stands at 173,926.

It’s interesting how much noise is made regarding the numbers of American veterans, yet nobody seems to question the math behind why there are 34,323 on one side and 64,764 partisans on the other.
As soon as someone brings up the idea of getting the local school running immediately—always dragging in endless talk about the diaspora and whatnot.
Suddenly, everyone is acting concerned about landmines and unemployment.
