That’s pretty much it... once we deal with the French, it's game over.
Now even the Canadians have a shot at the semifinals... The French might actually pull it off... ugh, I shouldn't even say that out loud 😍
The French might take down the Canadians, and we'll be facing the Spaniards. At this point, it’s really just our own luck that could stop us from making it to the semifinals.

If...

Everything's gone to hell, just like they planned in some backroom deal.
I don't get it. If Ilyes brings the defenders into the box, but then they're standing half a yard away once the contact actually happens, how on earth is that a penalty?
Man, Islander really missed the mark on this one.

That's just not how you handle things.
Linda Adams said:Seriously, this tournament is pure madness. I just can't believe they managed to blow a seven-point lead in barely thirteen minutes. 😉

They dropped eleven points in thirty minutes last time. Honestly, anything can happen when you want it to. 😁
Alright, everyone, let’s just slow things down for a second.

These guys could flip the script in a heartbeat; this championship is absolutely wild.

As for the Mexicans, let’s not get ahead of ourselves—the rabbit is still out in the woods.

They lack depth, and America can beat them on pure quality alone, provided we play our game and don't let the atmosphere get under our skin. That said, a huge chunk of tickets for the semis and finals are already gone. I wonder if the Danes, the Canadians, or someone else will end up selling those seats to the home crowd... who knows.

In my opinion, the American defense isn't any weaker than the Mexican one—not after last night, anyway. Honestly, I'd say it's actually better. As for the offense? Don't even get me started.

It would be a hell of a matchup, for sure. But we'll just have to wait and see if it actually happens.

Daniel Cooper40 said:It’s funny how people make way more noise when they're throwing punches than when they're taking them. 🤣

I remember back during the last championship, Bušlje took a blatant elbow from a Mexican right at the buzzer, and nobody even breathed a word about it here. Meanwhile, Dobud is already falling apart. 🤣

Total peasant mentality.
Everyone keeps obsessing over the defense, yet we’re sitting here with the second-best offense in the league.

But I guess people just love to complain about things they don't understand.🙄
If his injury was actually that devastating, he wouldn't be heading over to Mexico.

Now everyone’s talking about how Balic is going out on his own responsibility—give me a break. You're telling me a coach would knowingly go into a game playing shorthanded? Please. And suddenly, Vukovic is perfectly fine and ready to go.

It's the same old story from our camp: spin a little tale to make the opponent look like the bad guy, and build an excuse just in case we fail.

But hey, we'll see. Balic deals with chronic issues, so maybe he really is a coin toss right now. As far as I know, it's just Balic and the medical staff who know if he's fit or not. I'll let you guys decide why discussing that is considered such a taboo subject for the rest of the players. 🙂

Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Hey everyone, is it normal for my PC (ever since I installed Windows 7) to just go into sleep mode on its own when I’m not using it? Like, if I don't have any programs running and I'm just away from the desk, it decides to take a nap.

The only time it stays awake is if I leave a torrent client running in the background...

Sometimes the damn thing even wakes itself back up while it's supposed to be sleeping. It works fine when I manually hit shut down, though.

Is there a way to fix this? I just want it to run a screensaver while I'm away without the whole system entering sleep mode.

I never had this issue back on XP. On that system, the monitor would just go dark after the screensaver finished running for, say, fifteen minutes, but the actual computer stayed powered on.
Is war actually going to happen? in Close to Politics ·
I honestly don't see things changing as long as international military forces are stationed in the region.

To be more precise, nothing moves until those powers decide they want to "reset" the entire area through renewed conflict.

And if you're actually intimidated by Mexico, then you've got bigger problems... when they were ten times stronger than they are now, they still lost the war, so I can't imagine how they'd fare today.

Thanks.

While I've got you, what's the deal with these updates they keep pushing? Are they actually necessary? Like, do I really need to be updating my Windows, or is it just noise?

Back when I was running XP, I completely disabled those updates. I never touched them, and honestly, everything worked perfectly fine for me.🤷

The other day I went ahead and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, but now half my friends are breathing down my neck telling me I should have gone with the 64-bit version instead. They’re acting like this 32-bit setup isn't even real Windows 7—just calling it garbage and saying everything about it is broken.

Dammit, what am I supposed to do here? I’ve only got 2 GB of RAM. Should I just bite the bullet and install the 64-bit version, or stick with what I have? I'm thinking about doing the reinstall now while my C drive is still mostly empty and before I go ahead and clutter it up with all the software I actually need. Honestly, I don't run any "heavyweight" programs, so the 32-bit version seems perfectly fine for my needs right now.

Can you even run 64-bit on 2 GB of RAM? I see the minimum requirement is listed at 2 GB, whereas the 32-bit version can limp along on just 1 GB, but I don't know. That whole "minimum configuration" thing always feels like it's cutting it way too close for comfort.🤷
Overrated athletes? in Other Sports ·
I’ve got this nagging feeling that someone parked a white van right outside Larry Bird and Magic Johnson's place, but they're too afraid to say anything about it.

That’s just how it goes, nothing surprising there. One minute Duvnjak is playing in the World Cup less than a month after surgery and misses a single fast break, and suddenly he's being branded a total moron and the most overrated player in the history of the universe.

The media turned Michael Jordan into this massive icon, which is just the classic American way of doing things—they take some random guy who happens to be good at predicting the weather (which is all anyone talks about lately) and turn him into a media superstar. But let's be real: Jordan actually *was* a star. He’s objectively one of the greatest basketball players to ever live, and subjectively? He’s the GOAT. He isn't my personal favorite, though; I’ve always preferred Magic Johnson because I have a soft spot for athletes with actual flair and wit. When players show even a shred of above-average intelligence—because honestly, there's nothing worse than seeing pure brute force in sports; if you want to hit things with a hammer, go do that and leave the ball alone—Magic's ability to run those lightning-fast transitions and fast breaks was just pure art to watch.
Anyway, I see that Michael Jordan-Magic Johnson dynamic as being pretty similar to the Drazen Petrovic-Drazen Kukoc situation, and in that debate, I'm leaning toward Drazen😁 maybe for reasons that have nothing to do with basketball, so whatever... what I mean is, on one side you have the flashy playmaker and the versatile, elegant team player who can cover four or five positions without breaking a sweat (Magic and Kukoc), and on the other, you have the cold-blooded finisher and pure scoring machine (Jordan and Drazen).
