JPMorgan Chase Go!Card help? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
silentowl7 said:From what I know about how credit works—and I know a thing or two—you aren't going to pull this off. You've got a limit of $900, but you're trying to buy a computer for $1333. It’s obviously not happening. My understanding is that with a go card, they look at the total debt. Basically, $833 hits your account right away, and then you pay it back in chunks—looks like maybe $23 a month if my math is right. Since you already used up 2500 of your $900 limit, you only have $67 left to spend. Unless someone here knows better...

The whole point of a go card is using it at registers, but your bank gave you a tiny limit. Probably because your paycheck is small or you're already maxed out on other debt—that's why the limit is so low. Honestly, in your situation, just put half on the go card—like those $833—and pay the rest in cash. Or better yet, just use cash so you don't deal with interest...

As far as I know, they usually set the go card limit at about three times your monthly salary. That's just a rough rule of thumb. So if you make $1333, you'll likely end up with a limit of $4000.

🙂 🙂
With the Go! service, they actually calculate your limit based on your credit score... I'm not entirely sure how much of a buffer they require you to maintain (it seems a bit more lenient than what they look for when you apply for a standard loan) ...

That whole "three times your salary" rule was how the old-school Visa used to handle things a few years back, but if I recall correctly, they've tightened those reins since then.
Mandatory pension funds: What are your thoughts? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
He’s actually right—there was a thread opened a while back covering a nearly identical issue, so you should probably go dive into those replies...
To make a long story short => for your own sake, you really ought to pick a Vanguard mandatory pension fund as soon as possible, but definitely NOT by doing it this way... there isn't some strict deadline looming over you... and let's be real, it's obviously just recruitment tactics... so just do your homework on the different funds and make your own call.

Are we talking about a standard overdraft here, or is this some kind of unauthorized breach?

Zvrksa said:how many Windmill perks do you actually have? you can DM me if you want

I used to be on a standard Package before I switched over to the Windmill plan... but then they hiked up all the fees and suddenly the "deal" didn't feel like much of a steal anymore. Now, looking back, I think it's actually 🤷

here is my current breakdown:
- checking + 2 authorized users => used to be $13 annually, now it's $36 🤷
- foreign currency account + 2 authorized users => used to be $28 annually, now it's $28 🤷
- savings account => used to be 0.00, now it's 🤷
- debit card + 1 extra => annual fee $83
- gold tier + 1 extra => annual fee $100
- online banking => annual fee $40
- mobile app => annual fee $40

Basically, if I don't have the Windmill plan, I'm out $288 every year without the mobile app (which I don't even really need), and $328 with the mobile app

the Windmill plan costs me $20 per month, which works out to $240 annually. That said, I get retail discounts, zero fees for up to 15 online or mobile transactions (though I barely touch the app anyway), and when I withdraw cash abroad at Chase ATMs, there's no commission plus Mondial (people who use that say it's a lifesaver)

Plus, I'm planning to swap out my gold tier for the Visa Air Force mall card this fall because it's basically the same thing, just with better discounts at the mall and free parking for three hours...

@Steven Reed ... did I miss anything or get any of this wrong? 😉
@Douglas Allen79 ... you went a little too far with the insults there, if you ask me.
Student Loans in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
correct me if I'm wrong here🙂

but if you look at their own website, they explicitly state those loans are strictly for high schoolers and college students living in Varaždin County, Krapina-Zagorje County, or the New Orleans area...

which basically means nobody else qualifies... or am I missing something?

Hey @lucas ... huge congrats on the news! 👋 ...

But seriously, you totally dodged my question in that other thread 😁 ... and while we're at it, how long did it actually take you to master that?

Anyway, I don't want to derail the conversation here...

anasib 🙂 correct me if I’m wrong, but your training manuals aren't exactly encyclopedias. From what I’ve heard, the professional development they get over at State Farm is actually pretty solid... it’s just that the material can be a bit of a headache to memorize, but still... you haven't even gotten started yet 🙂 ...

Seriously, just run... grab your manuals and get the hell out of there 🙂

Overdrafts and negative balances: What's allowed? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I know exactly what you’re getting at here, I really do.

Let’s try looking at it this way... 🙂

For instance,
say you're sitting there with an overdraft at Chase $2.00, and your wife has about $3,000 in the red... let's assume that over time—because of, you know, life happening—you both end up buried in the hole. Then payday hits.
You're back at zero, but your spouse is still deep in the negative $200 and for the next few months, you have absolutely nothing to work with except your bare salaries (let's say $7,400 total), all while the bank hits you with interest charges every three months like clockwork. What now? The debt isn't shrinking, income isn't going up, costs are "only" climbing, and there's nowhere else to turn... it's a nightmare scenario.

What I was trying to get across is that an overdraft isn't some bottomless magic bag where you can just pull money out without consequences; once you've tapped it out, you're left with nothing but your raw paycheck again.
Overdrafts and negative balances: What's allowed? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I’m totally with @3007 on this one... it’s incredibly rare to find people who dip into those funds just once or twice and actually manage to pull themselves back out quickly (especially when they're flush with cash) ...

But you hit the nail on the head right here:
Maria Nelson12 said:That’s not really how it works. People cycle in and out of being overdrawn constantly. They take out a loan to clear the overdraft, then immediately fall back into it. Maybe they get some extra cash or a bonus and clear it, only to sink right back under again. The whole thing is just a loop where the debt keeps climbing. You have to realize people aren't just dropping $15,00 $0.00 into the hole overnight. They don't even have that kind of money. It starts at $2,000, then moves to $4,000, then $5,000, then $8,000, then $9,500, then $12,000, then $15,000... It all depends on how much they're short every few months and how much the bank bumps up their credit limit on a quarterly or semi-annual basis.

Once you’ve sunk more than half your paycheck into that hole, you’re basically stuck. Getting out? It’s nearly impossible.
Does anyone here have an issue with merging this into this specific thread
?

I mean, I assume they’re looking for some kind of collateral or security measures; co-signers, guarantors...

Honestly, I don't know, I usually lean toward an unsecured loan. Sure, the interest rate might take a bit more of a bite, but you aren't getting hit with all those extra fees—which, let me tell you, add up fast—and you don't have to worry about the bank holding your car hostage under some fiduciary lien.

I’ve got this one scheduled for May, but the one from April just won't go through... It keeps throwing some error saying there are no notifications (or something along those lines), yet when I pull up my statement, here is what I see:
- 04/01 interest charge => - $67
- 04/06 automatic payment processed => + $67
- 04/16 deposit via JPMorgan Chase => + $167
- 04/06 principal payment (and some other stuff) => - $167
