It appears he might have been a bit too influenced by those flashy American television commercials.

I'm just digging even deeper into this whole mess☕

I tried watching it and honestly, I just couldn't do it. I’m not crazy enough to torture myself like that. It felt way too forced and pretentious. Even Uma Thurman was getting on my nerves—I felt like calling her up just to give her a piece of my mind because of how hard she was trying to be provocative and irritating. Like, what's the point? Are we supposed to feel bad for a killer? What kind of logic is that?

But man, Trier really blew me away with Dogville, now that's something else.

Man, class A was always full of those total nerds, while class B was just the "golden youth"—basically a bunch of walking farts—and class C? That’s where you found all the regular, totally normal decen☕t
kids.

I might be veering a bit off-topic here, but I honestly feel like that killer disco pop-rock from the 70s and 80s is basically the sister genre to Glam rock.

For me, this stuff is just absolute gold.

Take Sweet, for example.

I grew up listening to them like a total brat—honestly, my old man used to blast them on the car stereo constantly—so they've been burned into my brain forever.🤷

Charles Ramos4 said:Now you're just getting all deep into your own niche theories and personal takes on the genre that only exist in your head 🙂 Every single one of those bands mentioned has their own signature sound that nobody else can touch—not just Sweet. At the end of the day, if you actually want to make it big on the main stage, you just have to be different/unique from everyone else.

But look, I get where you're coming from. I've got my own weird ways of looking at certain musical things that are a total pain to explain in a debate, even though they make perfect sense to me.

Like, I'm telling you, strictly from a musical standpoint, the ones I listed have that specific "candy" sound—this weird, glitchy mix of rock and bubblegum pop. To me, those are the two defining traits.

So yeah, Sweet and Slade are front and center, while T. Rex sounds more like some kind of rock, funky, sexy guru band to me.

The others (Bowie, Roxy Music, Queen, etc.) are definitely unique too, but they aren't the true representatives of that specific vibe.

Whatever, man, that's just my take.

Charles Ramos4 said:I honestly think it's the fashion style, not the actual sound, that gets lumped into the whole Glam rock category. I mean, how else would you group Bowie, T. Rex, KISS, Roxy Music, Sweet, Queen, and Bon Jovi together if it wasn't for that "cheesy" look and vibe they rocked at some point in their careers? It's not like they were all playing the exact same kind of music.

Look, my take is that since so much time has passed, we really ought to be evaluating—or ranking—Glam rock a bit differently today. Like, focus more on the actual music and put the outfits and all that flashy stuff to the side.

For me, say, blockbuster by Sweet is the perfect example of what that specific sound is actually about, because neither Bowie nor T. Rex had a sound like that, and definitely not Roxy Music, Queen, or KISS...

Slade is probably the closest to that vibe among the names mentioned. And Garry Glitter too.

The biggest hallmarks of that style are those simple, slower guitar riffs and the drum beats. Dammit, I can't even put it into words properly, you just have to feel it...

Just listen a little closer and you'll hear the difference...

Man, those guys just don't have that sound.🤷

analoggull52 said:I posted some tracks from T. Rex and Slade here before and nobody said a word. People call Marc Bolan the father of Glam rock, so what's the verdict? What do you guys think of them? Any favorite songs?

Look, since you're asking, T. Rex and Slade aren't really my main focus—it’s more about Sweet for me.

In my book, they’re the ones who actually define that whole Glam rock sound we’re talking about.

I even posted "New York Groove" a while back as the perfect example of that vibe. It’s basically that sound, just leveled up.

I absolutely love that era, and this right here is one of my all-time favorites

Some guy decided that since nobody else can seem to film a single coherent historical epic worth watching, he’d just take matters into his own hands and give the industry a much-needed masterclass

Honestly, we should all just be grateful ☕
After eighteen years of nothing but cinematic droughts and total creative anemia, we finally get a turn at some decent, old-school gladiatorial spectacle 🙏

Ridley Scott is basically a godsend 🙂

So, what's next on the menu? ☕
