One reason I actually dug it so much is that it feels way less like a typical anime than most other films out there. Honestly, the colors and the whole vibe reminded me more of something by Bakshi rather than that whole giant-eyed aesthetic people usually associate with the genre...
The animation is great, and the story holds up (though I think this is one of those movies you just watch rather than try to follow closely—kind of like The Odyssey), plus the fight scenes were just visually stunning. It’s probably the first time I’ve seen a brawl animated properly, you know? With natural jitters and quick drops instead of that annoying slow-motion stuff they always throw in...
I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised, which doesn't happen for me all that often 😛
Just a random thought, though—why does the villain look like he was designed by Akira Toriyama???????????????????

Man, why did everyone get so defensive all of a sudden... okay, fine, I guess I'll stop.😳
I honestly don't know what Jackson and Sam Raimi see in this guy, but the directing is just... I mean, it's a disaster. The cuts feel totally off, the editing is weak, and the pacing? Just completely missed the mark...
I guess the concept itself isn't terrible, but the way they try to mimic all those famous horror scenes is just lame. It feels like they just said, "Hey, let's grab a bit from Hoper, then some from Sam Raimi, then maybe a bit of Romer, then Jackson," and just stringing all their idols together to make this mediocre, amateurish thing that they're trying to market like it's some masterpiece or something...
Man, an hour and a half of my life just gone, and I spent the whole time watching American teenagers scream 😛
I probably would've been better off watching teenage girls instead 😛

See, if instead of saying the way most people write, we said the way most people live,
we might actually get a real definition of a human being. 😛
Sandra King86 said:My coworkers have been bugging me to watch it, but I was pretty hesitant... mostly because of my whole thing about how there isn't really such a thing as a truly good horror movie 😉.
Since a few of you guys are raving about it, I guess I'll give it a shot—but only if you promise it's worth it. If it ends up being totally gross or something, I'm blaming you all. I'll let you know what I think, either way. For sure. 🙂

I don't think it's actually going to make it to the big screen, 😢
but you can probably grab it on DVD at the local video rental shop pretty soon—maybe later this month?
It might show up under some weird title like Night of the Living Dead... honestly, don't let a bad title throw you off, it's just one of those things where distributors here pick the strangest names possible.
Jeremy Hayes59 said:like some stylized horror comedy along the lines of Evil Dead
it isn't quite like Evil Dead, but man, it's definitely stylized!!!
I also forgot to mention that scene with the records... I don't really want to go dropping spoilers here—I guess if you've seen it, you'll know what I mean 😂
Man, this movie was incredible!!!!!!!!!!1111 I caught it yesterday, easily the best thing I've seen all year 😏
It basically has everything I look for in a flick, especially that genre-blending stuff... you know, where you take a standard drama and mix it with a classic zombie vibe and end up with a little masterpiece like this
direction: 5/5
acting: 5/5
script: 10/10!!!!1111111
Everything about it just works. Plus, if you're into zombies, it's such a huge win because there are so many nods to the genre that you can almost play a game trying to spot all the influences... my buddy and I managed to name about 15 different ones, mostly stuff inspired by George Romero's classics
best part: Never EVER use the Z... word 🤣
I'm honestly just counting down the days until I can watch it *legally*😛

I had a pretty similar experience myself...
I ended up seeing it at one of those kid-friendly matinee screenings, surrounded by a massive crowd of little kids... I guess you experience a movie totally differently when every single scene is accompanied by screaming and clapping... I’d call that a "Dolby feeling," maybe? 😎
The bottom line is, I thought the movie was awesome.
