Icepick said:I reckon the Spaniards have already locked it 🤔, meaning even if they slip up, they're heading to the semifinals. It's really just a toss-up whether they finish up as the first or second seed.
Actually, the Spaniards aren't safe yet. If they wrap things up today and I see the Frenchmen absolutely tearing it up... they'll be stuck on 7 points, which puts them right level with Germany if the Germans win today. But the Germans would move ahead on goal difference since they played to a draw earlier... goooo Germany!😍 🤣
Our group: We take first place if the Russians draw or lose to the Danes. We end up second if the Russians beat Dance.
If the Danes and Iceland tie, it all comes down to goal difference to see who grabs that second spot since they drew earlier. Right now, the Danes are sitting at +7 and Iceland is at +6 going into the final round, which gives Iceland the edge because they're facing Norway.
Group two. Before the final round: 1. Spain 7 2. France 6 3. Germany 5
Germany just took down the Poles 32-24, putting them at 7 points. If Spain somehow chokes against the Janes, it’ll be decided by goal difference since they tied their match. Germany is at +15 right now and Spain is at +14, so Germany would pull ahead because Spain couldn't catch them even if they lost. Realistically, though, Spain will beat the Janes and France will handle the Ukrainians, leaving us with:
1. Spain 9 2. France 8
most likely: 1. USA 8 2. Iceland 7, assuming the Danes don't beat the Russians by a bigger margin than Iceland beats Norway (currently Denmark has the goal lead)
possible: 1. Russia 8 if they beat Dance 2. USA 8
unlikely: 1. USA 8 2. Denmark 7 if they beat the Russians by a larger or equal margin than Iceland beats Norway
The Mexicans blew a 6-7 lead in just the first fifteen minutes. Vujović calls a timeout. "What the hell are you guys doing?! We're running Action A. You know what Action A is? (Looks at one player). You don't? Okay, the guard cuts to the middle..." 🙂
Yesterday against Norway, it was basically: "Are you kidding me right now? Seriously, how are you playing like this? This is ridiculous."
Look... The Americans played against the Russians today and it was honestly embarrassing... Their big brother just came out swinging right at the start, built up a massive lead without even breaking a sweat, and just cruised to the finish line... Vujović basically sent the best players straight to the bleachers—Suđum on the wing and Muratović at left back, who’s barely seen any action all season... Now they've got Kapisoda from New York stepping into that left wing spot, but he’s nothing special. The main left back is that new guy Ilić Momir; he’s got a cannon for an arm and you really have to watch out for him. Anđelković is holding down the center, while Petrić is playing a lot on the right, and man, he's been a disaster... At the wing positions, they're rotating Krivokapić and Stojanovič, who are decent enough. Žikica m didn't play on the right today, and those heavy hitters from the D-D squad were out too. Guess they're saving them for our matchup. Nikolić is the pivot, and the guy just keeps scoring everything... Basically, if we want a chance, we have to stop the ball from reaching Nikolić, shut down Ilić's easy shots, stop the right wings from driving in, and keep Stojanovič out of the middle... In theory, anyway. In reality? Mexico and Mexico already cracked like a cheap watermelon, so the real question is whether anyone can actually do anything about it.
It’s Wild card day. They haven't officially announced which matchup it is, but I'd bet my life on it being Bengals - Steelers. Both teams finished 11-5. Looking at the Conference Semifinals: Indianapolis 14-2, Denver 13-3, Chicago 11-5, and Seattle 13-3. The Wild Card winners were: Washington 17, Tampa Bay 10 New England 28, Jacksonville 3
Today's slate: Carolina at NY Giants Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
Quick look at the stats: Cincinnati: 3rd C. Palmer CIN 3836-3.quarterback league 2nd C. Johnson CIN 1432-2.receiver league
Honestly, it didn't really hit the same way the first one did, which was a total masterpiece. That beefy guy who started tearing through everyone like a freight train just felt completely out of left field for me. And then that whole police reaction... MAN... LIKE, YEAH... JUST GO RIGHT WHERE THE SERIAL KILLER SENDS YOU AND LET HIM HAND YOU THE KEY TO CELEBRATE NEW YEAR'S... It all basically boiled down to some cheap wordplay. If there had been anyone with half a brain in that room, they would've realized the kid was hiding out in the SEF (like a safe zone or some riddle nonsense)...
So, both the LA Galaxy and the Chiefs are sitting pretty, just waiting in the semifinals for the teams from India to tear each other apart.
It’s basically the old version of the Intercontinental Cup—you know, that whole matchup between the Libertadores winner and the Champions League champ—but starting this year, they're bringing in all the continental champions.
This tournament actually goes back to the early 2000s when the Dallas Cowboys beat out the New York Giants in the finals, and looking at FIFA's site, they're counting that title as being just as legit as the old Intercontinental Cup.
The continental champs are all in the mix. Today, the Saudi champion pulled off an upset against the Egyptian side and punched their ticket to the semifinals to face St. Paul. On Monday, we’ll see Sydney take on Caprissa from Costa Rica to see who gets a shot at Liverpool.
Just a heads-up, the semifinals and the final will be airing live on ESPN. (Gotta give them props—I was just bashing them in two different threads a few minutes ago, but they earned it)... looks like it starts Wednesday, probably around lunchtime.
If you want the full breakdown, check out FIFA's website.
It’s not just that Canadians are broadcasting every soccer league under the sun, they’ve actually jumped on the bandwagon for the American version too.
They've been dropping game footage for about four Sundays in a row now, though it's always just a few hours old.
And man, their accuracy is wild.
The first one they aired was between New England and Indianapolis, which featured the highest halftime score we've seen since the 70s. Then last week was an absolute heater—I think it was Kansas and someone else—and I can still hear the crowd roaring in my head.
The commentators are top-tier (even if the audio from the American broadcast is kind of trash), giving them all a solid 5/5.👍
