My main gripe with the first one—aside from any obvious plot holes—is that the killer's psychological profile felt a bit thin. Still, the movie holds its own until the end thanks to that relentlessly creepy atmosphere the whole time; credit to a young James Wan for that! It would be nice if they at least tried to iron out those kinks in the sequel.

(For the few fans who know the trivia: this lo-fi flick was shot in just 18 days with zero rehearsals, all while editing on the fly. On a budget of $1,200,000, it pulled in a massive $72,000,000. Since it didn't rely on some ridiculous hype machine like >, it’s easily one of the standout hits of the past year.)

Then again, since the sequel is being handled by a different director with an almost entirely new cast, that kind of improvement seems unlikely...

Either way, Saw II is already on my must-watch list for next year, so... we'll see!

The first installment was actually a pretty refreshing piece of filmmaking. Solid concept, too. But somewhere around the hour and ten-minute mark, I felt my interest starting to flag... mostly because that sense of incompleteness I mentioned earlier started to weigh on the whole (perfectly good) idea...

As for the sequel? Well, most follow-ups to hits like this tend to fall flat, but out of respect for the original, I'll definitely be checking it out.

I haven't actually sat down to watch the first one yet, though I feel like I saw it on a shelf at a Blockbuster just the other day... 🤔

I thought the first film was dark, but with Donnie Wahlberg involved (New Kids on the Block 🙂), I'm honestly not sure what to expect from the sequel.

Here is a theory from one viewer (it’s an inaccurate review, but interesting for the sake of discussion):

The movie kicks off with three people stuck in a
holding cell. One of them is the woman from the original Saw who managed to escape
the reverse bear trap device; the others are a cop and a drug addict. (Oh yeah, Adam
gets away, and the police discover Dr. L's body near Danny Glover's—I assume he bled to
death.) We learn the woman from the first film is pregnant, and we eventually find out
who the father is—Adam!! Yeah, I know, it's bizarre. Then we discover her mission is to either terminate
the unborn child or kill the cop. I haven't the slightest clue why the addict is even there, but anyway, the
woman kills the cop, and she and the addict manage to escape, where they are met
by family and loved ones (cue Adam). It turns out the drug
addict has AIDS, and he dies shortly after. Speaking of death, we also learn that Jigsaw
passed away from stomach cancer, which means he couldn't have been the one to trap the trio in the cell. Then
we discover Adam had a connection to Jigsaw, prompting the police to hunt him down until they
eventually shoot him dead. Finally, it turns out the woman is the true killer; she
was a devotee of Jigsaw and likely wanted to carry on his legacy of games...

That synopsis is straight-up false, mainly because Adam doesn't even show up in the movie (which would be impossible given what we know happened).

Here is what actually goes down in the sequel:

A detective (Wahlberg) is looking into a murder case that bears a striking resemblance to the work of Jigsaw. Meanwhile, eight people find themselves trapped together in a single room.

So, here’s the deal: apparently, those eight people receive cards containing instructions to kill one of the others in the room (using, of course, the most gruesome methods imaginable). It's essentially a bloody version of Big Brother. And among those eight people is Amanda from the first film.

It doesn't quite track. If she actually managed to escape, she should have stayed gone—unless, of course, she’s the killer. It looks suspicious at first glance, but honestly, it wouldn't be out of the question for her to have just snapped and developed some kind of PTSD. 😂 😂 😂

It feels kind of like House of Nine to me, though I'm really hoping the execution is actually decent this time, because the concept itself—the actual script—is pretty interesting, I guess.

Caught ABC News this morning—they were running a quick rundown of the biggest movies out right now, and naturally, this one was topping the list because Halloween is right around the corner.

I’m sitting here still thinking about how I absolutely have to sit down and watch this sequel, plus the original... then it finally hits me. I already saw the first one. 😁 😁

I have this nagging feeling that the movie is going to be a massive letdown...

So there I was, heading to this exclusive little sneak preview, gathering about ten people together. We’re all sitting there, feeling good, settling in with our buckets of popcorn, and then suddenly SAW starts playing. It was pure chaos—popcorn went flying everywhere, mostly aimed right at me!
I honestly think I’ll just watch Saw II by myself.

p.s. The trailer isn't exactly a masterpiece or anything, but it feels like it was designed specifically for the people who already saw the first one and don't need a massive setup to get into the headspace. 😉

It’s an old cliché at this point, but sequels are almost always total garbage.

That said, the premise for this horror-thriller actually holds water—it looks like they might actually shake things up and revolutionize the genre.

Just finished watching it.

It left me with a similar impression to the first one.

I appreciate that the killer's character is a bit more fleshed out, though the traps felt significantly more "human" to me. 🙂
Still, none of them come close to that one kill from the original film.

I'm not a fan of how much more action there is compared to the actual psychological maneuvering and plotting by the captives. Then again, perhaps that's just more realistic, since getting eight people to actually cooperate is nearly impossible.

All in all, it isn't much better or worse than the first installment.

I checked out Saw II a couple of weeks ago...
It was actually great. I went in thinking the movie was going to be garbage, especially since the intro felt totally tedious...
Everything feels thrown together and pointless at first; you're just expecting stupidity, and even the plot feels kind of... 😢
well, then suddenly—bam...
Once things start unraveling and you see this, realize that, and then this happens... damn, you're just left stunned by how well it's executed. By the end, the movie is killer... and it wraps up in a bathroom.... 😉 (guess whose corpses are lying there 😂 who didn't have any luck)
Anyway, even though it feels forced at times, once everything is explained and untangled, it becomes a solid piece of work... personally, I think it holds its own against the original. It's the first sequel that didn't disappoint me...
But, I do have one gripe... I won't say exactly what happens because that would be a massive spoiler, but that one line in the movie, "i will continue my ******* work", is unfortunately just a cheap gimmick and basically SHOUTING: THERE'S A SEQUEL COMING!!!! 😢

It’s not bad, but I wonder how much longer they can keep this up before they completely screw it up...
