Who do you look up to most? in Spirituality ·
There’s just no real authority left. 🙂

It’s mostly just a bunch of liars. Actually, if you look closely, the ones who act the most authoritative are usually the biggest frauds. 😬
But honestly, there's an even deeper layer of rot than that.

It’s actually recognized as a legitimate remedy 🙂

Honestly, Neven's ointment is the gold standard. 👍

I always keep a jar of it sitting around the house, and I end up using it for just about everything, like when I've got a cold and my 😁 nose gets all raw from constant tissue use.
Whatever happens to my skin, I just slather some on, and sometimes I even use it as part of my regular skincare routine. 😬

Melissa Gonzalez21 said:Man, you have some seriously bizarre home remedies.😁
I don't know... I grew up in a small town in the Midwest, but even I haven't heard of that method.
I do know about stopping nosebleeds by stuffing a little bit of cigarette tobacco up there.
And I once heard that for a toothache, putting a clove of garlic in your ear works wonders (though I was too terrified to actually ask how on earth that’s supposed to work).

Then there was this girl I knew who had these horrific burns on her arm—really nasty stuff—and her mom used to rub this mixture of olive oil and lime water on it until it turned into a sort of gel, and honestly, she doesn't have a single scar.👍 (Meanwhile, I’ve been walking around with a visible scar for years just from a minor mishap with a clothing iron.)

😬

The whole tobacco thing is news to me, and I’ve definitely never heard of the garlic trick.
Maybe the ear starts burning so intensely that people just forget they even had a toothache in the first place. 😁😁

There is something involving cigarettes and toothaches out there somewhere, but the details have escaped me.
Maybe someone here has actually tried it (though I highly doubt anyone has) 😁 and can weigh in.

I haven't heard of the olive oil and lime water combo either, though I am a firm believer that olive oil is basically magic for your skin, regardless of what kind of issue you're dealing with.
👍
It’s probably that the girl started applying that mixture as soon as the wound closed while the scarring was still fresh; once enough time passes, it’s pretty much impossible to fix anything.

But hey, my mom always used to say you have to suffer a little bit if you want to look good.

🤣

Look, I honestly don't know.😁 All I know is she must have been desperate enough to try just about anything, and clearly, it worked.
I'm telling you, maybe we're all just walking around with way too many prejudices because who actually knows what kind of chemical cocktail she was pumping into herself—hormones, whatever else.

Anyway, back to the whole wound thing. I heard a story once about how people out in the rural Midwest used to let their dogs lick their cuts just to speed up the healing process.

Melissa Gonzalez21 said:So, uh... I actually had someone suggest once that I should just rub a little urine on a cold sore on my lip.😱
And they weren't even joking!

I honestly don't think so. 😬
Seriously, someone once told me—I can't recall all the specifics—about this girl who was dealing with some pretty massive skin issues.
Her face looked like a greasy pepperoni pizza. 😬
🙂
She was absolutely miserable about it, tried every single thing under the sun, but nothing worked, at least nothing that lasted.
Then, someone suggested urine therapy to her.
It actually has a formal name for it, too. 😁
Anyway, she apparently started applying pee to her face😁 (I'm not entirely sure if it was her own or even from a baby) and it cleared up.
Completely. 👍

Maybe we’re all just incredibly stuck in our ways and full of prejudices.
😕

nimbleskipper13 said:By the way, has it ever crossed anyone's mind that peeing on a wound might actually be a decent move? 🙂
I mean, assuming you aren't dealing with some kind of urinary tract infection, obviously. 🙄

You might just be joking around here,😁 but I’ve actually heard from someone that it works (provided you don't have any other way to clean out the wound and stuff like that).

Thanos said:I couldn’t disagree more, because honestly, I think chasing pleasure and pure ecstasy is the whole point of being alive, and if some people want to go out of their way to suffer, then that's really on them.

Desire doesn't really have anything to do with the matter, since nobody actually seeks out pain—that just isn't how we're wired, whether you're talking about humans or animals.

But it does make you wonder, what happens when it turns out that suffering actually serves a purpose or carries some kind of deeper meaning?

masterblaster said:We’re all dealing with some version of pain, aren't we? But lately, it feels like there's this massive, unspoken pressure—this absolute imperative—to just be happy, or at least to force ourselves into being happy. What happens if we just can't get there? Has suffering somehow become something we're supposed to feel ashamed of?

Yeah.
It really is. Though, if you look at it a certain way, that struggle might actually be the most effective tool we have for truly getting to know ourselves.
And it's how we learn about other people, too. 😁😁
Even if that realization comes through a bit of shame. 😉

In the morning, once I finally make it into the office—I always grab ☕ and then usually treat myself to another one in the early afternoon. Right around lunch, you know.

After that, I'm done for the day since I tend to be a total night owl anyway.
I've pretty much stopped making my own coffee at home, and I don't bother with it on the weekends either, unless I'm out with someone, in which case I'll definitely have one because, honestly, I miss it. 😁

Regarding that note about the post being edited, I didn't actually change any of my thoughts, I just fixed a couple of typos.

Anyway, if anyone wants to weigh in, please do, so that people interested in these techniques can actually get some insight from the discussion.

Mr. Pes said:Truth is such an awkward concept because people either have no clue what it actually means, or they think there are multiple versions of it floating around, so you just end up spinning your wheels trying to find some footing... 😁

That’s exactly my point. You can't really get your bearings when you're stuck in that kind of ambiguity, even if everything being said happens to be true.
😬

velvetpilot212 said:Look, I think at some fundamental level, we all actually know what's going on, so there isn't really any confusion—it's not like anyone is sitting there wondering, "maybe it's this, maybe it's that." It’s more like it exists on a subconscious level, though I sometimes feel a bit silly because I purposely avoid using those kinds of heavy terms just so people don't look at me like I've lost my mind 😵.

But the real question is, are we all operating on that same frequency? Is anyone actually tuned in to that level?
And honestly, I'm convinced there is something out there... buried deep somewhere. But then you have to wonder if we even need to dig it up, or if it's just hanging out in the heavens😁 waiting to drop onto our heads—because if it's buried, how exactly are we supposed to unearth it, and if it's up in the sky,😁 why haven't we just sent a SpaceX rocket up there to grab it already?😬

Is this just a constant cycle of tinkering and obsessing over details, or is there still some actual, usable knowledge left in this world for us to find?

You made a great point there. I definitely see myself in that. 👍
I suppose I’d start looking for examples from before I hit thirty. 😉
A kid doesn't really distinguish between what's real and what's pure imagination. When does that start to change? When does a person start adjusting themselves to fit in? When does the lying begin? Where is that exact breaking point?
Is there some window of opportunity in a certain stage of life—which one, exactly?—that we're just completely missing?

velvetpilot212 said:Alright, but I’m genuinely curious why everyone is constantly obsessing over how things could be improved. Isn't everything exactly the way we want it to be? Take that thread about those cases of child abuse—everyone is out there shouting at the mother who let it happen. She’ll inevitably claim she couldn't have known or didn't have a choice, but we won't give her an inch to explain herself. Because excuses aren't allowed, right? There's just no room for them.
So why would we ever allow ourselves any kind of laziness or try to justify things by saying we don't have enough time, or that we're overwhelmed by work, kids, spouses, or just a million other little things...
The truth is, things are exactly how we want them to be, and we own that.
If you look at it that way, it turns out there really isn't anything left to fight for. Nothing needs to change because we're all perfectly content with the status quo.

Aha! I see where you're coming from now. 😵
We were talking past each other. 😲

I’m not actually suggesting that things will get better. 😢

It just felt like the way you described the situation was a bit too laid back, and I didn't quite catch what you were actually getting at. You know—it's almost too easy for people to know the truth but simply refuse to acknowledge it.
And it's not just about whether they decide to put in the effort.
That would be way too simple.

I don't think things are the way we want them to be. Not if we even know what it is we want in the first place.

Everything is being overanalyzed when, in reality, it's pretty straightforward.
We are screwed. 😬
Let's make a plan... in Spirituality ·
Hmm. Well, then we’d basically have to take a massive step back to that point you mentioned—that stage where everyone supposedly knows what's going on and they're just making up excuses to cover it.
I wouldn't go so far as to say everyone knows. But, everyone *could* know. Or maybe everyone will find out eventually. Or, at the very least, most people will catch on.

I honestly think there's a pretty significant gap between being aware and actually "knowing," and that's not even something we can control through sheer willpower.

So, things probably won't get much better. Not by a long shot.

What would I do—it’s just not possible. 😉

I don't think there's any cure for human blindness and deafness. Except maybe—you know—time.

Enchantress said:It’s pretty obvious that not everyone is being honest, and honestly, you can't always afford to be either; there's this unspoken social contract where a little white lie is considered much more polite than some harsh, brutal truth. 😉 You tell one small lie today, another tomorrow, and before you know it, you're just weaving them together—first deceiving others, then eventually deceiving yourself... until one morning you wake up so tangled in your own fabrications that you can't even recognize your own inner truth anymore. That's when the whole process of untangling begins.

Exactly. 😢

And we’re also talking about that messy period of untangling where you find yourself back in the habit of deception simply because you've lost all sense of what's actually real.

The moment we start searching for answers, we just end up getting caught in the web all over again. 😲
It isn't even true that "spirituality" starts during that phase; it actually kicks in long before your memory even catches up, right at the moment you first realize there are multiple versions of the same story, and you start to suspect that maybe things aren't quite what those untouchable authorities told us—the ones we rely on for absolutely everything.

We tend to run headlong into certain "mysteries" much, much earlier than people realize. 😉
