Spiritual Teacher?! in Spirituality ·
Eric Scott65 said:There’s this one question that’s been weighing on me for quite a while now...
Do you all think there’s really just one single "right" spiritual teacher out there who can actually show us our way or point us toward our path?

See, I’m struggling here... I’ve been going through a pretty serious spiritual crisis lately... and I just feel like I need someone to point me back toward the right direction again...
But I’m just totally lost in this sea of commercials, advertisements, and those preacher segments on the radio.
How am I supposed to know if one of them is actually "the one"?
And honestly, the worst part is I already set up appointments with two different people, only to have both of them push me off because of their "official" travel schedules....
Does that mean they were the "wrong" teachers for me? And is there even such a thing as a "Right One" to begin with?
And it feels like God isn't sending anyone my way.... 🙂 🙂

What should I even do?? 🙂 🙏

There isn't just one single, definitive, perfect teacher. I mean, sure, maybe one exists, but you aren't going to go looking for it. 😉

There are no pre-packaged recipes for this life; you have to figure it out for yourself, and then when you finally get moving and start thinking you’re hitting a wall, something "coincidentally" happens—someone or something just happens to cross your path. So, it really all comes down to you, and even when you feel like you're just stumbling around in the dark, you're actually bumping into your "teacher." 😉
Just turn off the ads, ignore the commercials, shut off the radio and the TV, and just start bravely feeling your way through.
To start with, it’s enough just to quiet things down a little bit. 🙂

Sure, you could go ahead and buy a "recipe," but once you realize you've been sold a lemon, you'll end up having to relearn everything anyway, wasting your time while these "teachers" are away on official business or busy tending to the cash register...
That might be the easier route, but it’s ultimately a dead end. Eventually, you’re going to have to return to that initial stage of just feeling your way through the dark. 😉
If you feel drawn to it, go for it, but if not—just take it easy and enjoy the ride.
The birth of a soul in Spirituality ·
I came across a thread just like this one from a few months back.

There isn't a massive amount of content here, but maybe someone will stumble upon an idea or two.

crimsonbison10 said:So, am I right in assuming those two things are basically synonyms? 😕

😱 No, they aren't synonyms.

What exactly is breathing life into a body that’s already been chosen? 😉

The soul chooses the body, not the other way around. It's just like what swiftcobra15 mentioned—and I think a few others above him did too—that the soul doesn't just stumble into a body, rather, the soul acquires one.
Acquires, claims, selects... whatever terminology you want to use for it.

There are plenty of rabbit holes to go down here. Like, do people even exist without souls? Some folks swear they're everywhere, others argue that maybe half of humanity is just walking around empty, and then there are those who find the whole debate completely ridiculous and beneath them. 😁😁

Alexander Watson said:When does a soul actually get "breathed" into existence?

I suspect it happens when the soul finally finds its child, at which point all that's left is the waiting game.
It isn't about being born, per se, but rather being created.
There’s this old occult concept—and bear with me on the wording here,🙄 because nothing else feels quite right—that suggests the child is actually the one choosing the parents.
So, really, the soul makes its selection, and we are simply the ones chosen before everything even begins.

It’s actually fairly common for parents to feel that connection deep down with an unborn baby. That sense that what’s growing inside a mother😁 is far more than just some random collection of cells.
The birth of a soul in Spirituality ·
Alexander Watson said:Because when does a child actually become a child?
But then again, maybe if we just sort out this whole angel situation first, the answer will just sort itself out, won't it?

What is the actual question here, though? Is it about when a soul is born, whether a soul even exists in that sense, or is it when a child truly becomes a child—when they receive life, or perhaps when they receive a soul?

So, I came across some medical research showing that a massive number of women experience miscarriages without ever even realizing they were pregnant in those very early stages.

Male. 🙄 🙄 😁😁

And finally, if we look at the natural law suggesting more girls are born than boys, one might conclude that heaven is absolutely overflowing with girls...

😱
In that case, I'm definitely not going there. 😱

Dog or cat bites... in Health ·
Regarding the neighborhood situation, we have some strays hanging around my block; sometimes an entire pack shows up, hiding out in the bushes and barking at passersby.
I’ve honestly never heard of them actually biting anyone.

Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong, but I don't really think those strays are all that dangerous. Generally speaking, they don't bother anyone who leaves them alone—they just keep their distance and go about their business. At least, that's how it's always seemed to me.

The vast majority of dogs that actually cause trouble and bite people are usually pets that belong to someone somewhere. 😢

Now, playing around with a dog is a whole different story, and that can happen any time.
A friend of mine actually had a little puppy nip her on the nipple while she was giving it a bath. 😱

It sounded like one of those things where people say everything is fine, except for Chicago... nothing bad ever happens in the big city, right? A total metropolis.😁

If you had mentioned the dog wasn't even from your neighborhood, then sure, I get it—you know the vibe of your own neck of the woods—but the way it came out just felt silly. 😉

I didn't mean to mock you, I just thought it was kind of cute.🙂

Well, it wasn't you rolling your eyes, it was everyone else.
🙄
I went back and checked what I actually wrote,😁 and it wasn't about being outside of NYC, it was about the fact that it was an unknown dog (that's the specific wording used).

I didn't take the whole ordeal particularly seriously to begin with, though the doctor basically forced my hand, and then the madness started.
First, they flagged me at the emergency room, then they sent me over to the rabies clinic, and then they interrogated me and were actually yelling at me to be grateful that I didn't have to pay for the vaccine myself.
🙄

That wasn't even the worst part, though; a few years later, my own dog gave me a much harder time.😲

Betty Hill82 said:Look, I'm sorry, but:😂 🤣

Does it actually matter if it happened in Chicago or somewhere else?

😁

If we were talking about some random stray dog—you know, one that’s impossible to track down, can't be put in quarantine, just a total wildcard—then sure, the location wouldn't mean a thing.
But they asked me specifically where this took place, and since they wanted the full story, I had to lay out all the details of what went down.
🙄
Dog or cat bites... in Health ·
So, was I really the only one who went through this torture? 🙄
Well, it was some stray dog out past the outskirts of Chicago, and I figure that basically means you’re automatically getting the rabies shot anyway.

I spent the whole time applying alcohol compresses—just soaking gauze and holding it against the wound. It felt incredible at night once I finally pulled the covers back. 😬 🙂
The bruise was this weird, nauseating shade of greenish-purple-blue-red. 😁 😁
It was massive. 😲
And I’ve still got the scars from the stitches. 😲
Dog or cat bites... in Health ·
If there’s no blood, there’s no drama.

I remember this one time a random dog bit me—it actually broke the skin, too—and I had to run out for a tetanus shot, and then I lost track of how many times I ended up at the local clinic for those rabies shots they give you in increasing intervals. I can't even tell you exactly how many it was, maybe five or seven, something like that.

If you want to make a copy over in the Wellness section—fine by me. But leave it right where it is.

So, alright, I went ahead and copied the topic over to Wellness, just like Noah Anderson wanted.

If Noah Anderson insists on it, I’ll go ahead and move this over to Wellness to honor what he wants, especially since Casey Palmer5 is on the same page about it.
But, if I'm being honest, I really feel like this topic belongs right here under Spirituality.

Casey Palmer5 said:It looks like someone went on a bit of a cleaning spree around here... I honestly don't see why there couldn't be a dedicated space to talk about how the female cycle ties into the Moon, but hey, whatever.

That would be a nice addition, though probably not for casual chatting. 😁😁

If anyone happens to know anything more substantial regarding how the Moon affects plant growth, it would be great if they could share some thoughts. 🙂
The Silent Witness in Spirituality ·
It honestly feels easier to list all the things the moon actually affects than to try and pin down everything it doesn't.
The truth is, our bodies react to it whether we want to admit it or not, just like the entire planet does.

Think about plants and animals, or even the massive tides in the oceans.

So, how do you guys handle that lunar pull? Can you actually feel it coming on?

What kind of mood do you find yourself in during a full moon? 😁😁

Which bank should I choose for a new account? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I’ve been banking with Wells Fargo for years now, and honestly, having an ATM on basically every street corner means I never have any trouble grabbing some cash when I need it.
I’m sitting on a pretty deep deficit at the moment, so I just don't have the headspace to start chipping away at it right this second. Plus, I keep my savings here, so I figure it’ll look decent when I eventually go for a loan.
Whenever I finally pull the trigger. 🙄 🙄

People love to talk, you know? You’ll hear someone trashing Wells Fargo or complaining about JPMorgan Chase, but then they turn around and say Hypo, Goldman Sachs, or Bank of America are all top-tier.
I guess Citigroup isn't quite hitting those same marks anymore, especially since they rebranded to Bank of America.
😁😁
Everyone has their own priorities, I suppose. Personally, I just ignore the commercials. 😁😁

blue ocean said:I’ve always leaned toward this definition: Truth is whatever actually helps you grow.

So, my truth doesn't necessarily have to be yours, even if we happen to cross paths along the way, though that doesn't happen all that often, and I think we just need to have some patience and be a little more tolerant of how other people see things.
Essentially, there is one Truth: that there are many truths.😉

Raymond Jones78 said:It’s just... can food actually absorb negative energy... whether that’s coming from people or maybe even radiation from all those human-made things... machines and gadgets?

Can food prepared by someone who is—well, negative—actually be toxic, even if it’s technically perfectly fine to eat?

Do our own little "imprints" stay on the food we handle? 🙄

Food can definitely be energetically contaminated, which isn't quite the same as being poisonous, 😁😁 but it can certainly be energetically harmful.
It isn't just about how the meal is cooked; the origin and the whole "history" of the food matters too.
The discussion hasn't really touched on this yet since most people focus on the cooking process, but for me, personally, I care deeply about who I'm sharing a meal with, and you guys can laugh all you want. If I don't feel right being around certain people, I’d much rather skip the meal entirely.
And believe me, I loooooove to eat.
Sometimes life doesn't give you much of a choice, but where a meal comes from and how it was handled is just as vital as the actual eating part.
Is This Actually Worth It? in Spirituality ·
Glam said:What kind of confidence are we actually talking about if you have to rely on someone else just to feel steady within yourself? What kind of confidence is it when you're constantly driven by this nagging need to prove you're better than some other guy or show off that you can pull off something he can't?
That isn't confidence; it's just a massive void where confidence should be.

And what about self-respect? Is it even real if you need everyone else to treat you like a big shot just so you can feel decent about who you are? If you’re always stuck in some endless competition with people around you just to feel worthy through their eyes, that isn't respect.
It's actually a total lack of self-respect.

Then there's the whole "self-love" thing. How can you claim to love yourself if your sense of worth is entirely dependent on how much others adore you? If you find yourself demanding loyalty from everyone else just to maintain your own integrity, that isn't self-love.
That's just a complete absence of self-love.

I stumble upon stuff like this every once in a while, and I usually figure I might as well post it here in case someone else needs to see it too. It feels like it's worth the read.
What is the actual value of a human life? in Spirituality ·
We’ve already started scratching the surface here, but honestly, there is still an endless amount to unpack regarding this.
There are actually three other threads floating around on the Philosophy board the value of human life philosophy (started by MarilynManson23), The Value of Human Life (by shipka), and Value vs. "Value".

If I had to pull one particularly grim truth out of your post, it would be this:
It’s become common knowledge that the worth of someone else's life is dictated solely by whatever ideology or set of principles we’ve been conditioned to follow, without ever pausing to question if those ideas are even remotely sound. We just accept them.
That right there is the toxic byproduct of ideology, working hand-in-hand with our own collective, numbed conscience.
