I’ve always thought jazz fans were a little bit schizophrenic... or at least they lean heavily in that direction.
My buddies actually sat me down and gave me an assessment, and honestly, I think they might be onto something. Little jerks. 😁
I don't know about anyone else, but I know for a fact that what you listen to doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how smart you are. It's more about the environment you grew up in and just your overall sensibility...
I usually split music lovers into two camps—the ones who obsess over the lyrics and the ones who are all about the instrumental side. I definitely fall into the second group. I'll admit, I never really bother listening to the lyrics; I'll hum along to a track without even making a single attempt to process the words... or what they're actually saying...

Look, I’m sorry, but I honestly find any debate about how "hard" a college major is to be completely pointless.
Thank Bog I chose a field I actually care about and one that comes relatively naturally to me. Why even complain if you picked what you picked? If I had wanted to go to medical school, I would have gone because that was my interest, and I wouldn't be sitting here comparing my workload to majors that don't have midterms or a thousand pages of reading every single week.
It's not like I'm "smarter" than anyone else who spends more time hitting the books... if I were, I'd be studying way harder, pulling straight A's, and I'd have been off my parents' payroll a long time ago. I just want to bust this myth that certain majors are "lazy"—every single program requires work, it just depends on you... The reality is that in most of them, a little bit of luck and knowing how to navigate the system goes a long way.
Amy Gomez36, sorry for going off on a tangent here...
Ugh, I’m also totally over all the comments about my college major... I think Amy Gomez36 is actually right on this one; it really just comes down to how much someone chooses to interpret things... and honestly, how much they even care in the first place.
I mean, I’ve never actually studied for an exam for more than a week at most, but I am a total pro at cutting corners... It seems like the people who are willing to actually grind through every single piece of literature end up pulling those A's and B's and then writing these fancy little applications for scholarships...
I guess I’m pretty happy being somewhere in that middle ground, especially since most of my classes are actually interesting enough that I don't need to go overboard. There have been some absolutely brutal, nightmare-level exams too, where I actually put in the work (though still probably not enough) and ended up passing with just a C...
It seriously drives me insane when my friends start talking trash about how easy or hard my major is. We seriously have a massive amount of material to learn and work through, but the reality is that most of my classmates are basically just natural-born posers who know exactly how to talk their way out of stuff, which most of the professors actually love (because they’re equally eccentric) so everyone passes. The students who are actually hardworking and book-smart are definitely in the minority, but like I said, they’re the ones walking away with the better grades...
I can't even bring myself to study at the main city library anymore. I used to spend all my time there, but once I realized I was basically just running into the same group of people over and over, I just gave up. Plus, the vibe is honestly terrible—the lighting is awful, the AC is weird, it’s just gross. Every time I leave NSK, I feel like I've been digging ditches in the sun all day...
There was a period where I used to grind away at the SC, but I eventually got sick of it, so now I've moved over to the city branches.
The library system really needs a shake-up... it would help keep things interesting. 😁 I don't know, though; I guess I'm just glad I finally figured out there's at least one spot where I can actually get stuff done...
Amy Gomez36 said:I honestly think if I can just force myself to stay home long enough, eventually I'll actually get around to studying...
Ughhhhh, no, not at home, nooooooo... Absolutely not, I avoid that at all costs...
I don't know how it is where you guys live, but there is just way too much going on at home. First off, you know everything and everyone, so there's always someone to chat with 🙂, then there’s the TV, videos, the computer, music streaming, magazines, journals, unread books, the fridge, dust on the TV, an unvacuumed carpet, and—worst of all—the PHONE! Man, it's constant; someone calls and suddenly you're out at a pub, wandering downtown, or just hosting people at the house...
The solution is the library. Seriously, I was such a model student today 🙄 hunkered down at my local library starting at 10 AM and grinding away like crazy until almost 4 PM (with one little 45-minute coffee break 😳). Honestly, if anyone tries to call me, I can easily just ignore them because why would I bother trekking across town from where I am? Plus, the atmosphere is actually motivating; seeing everyone else working hard makes you want to do the same... And let's be real, the background isn't exactly exciting—just walls and bookshelves... Even phone games get boring fast... so yeah, whatever, all you're left with is studying...
I’m usually the type who doesn't even realize the pressure is building until the day before an exam hits. And then? It’s pure horror...
But this year is just different. My schedule is absolutely slammed through both May and June. Thank God I finally got my act together a bit earlier than usual, I guess. Maybe those recent scares with my leftover sophomore year finals finally shook some sense into me, but man, the panic right now is UNREAL!
I know I’m probably going to be pulling all-nighters.
I suppose things go a little smoother when you don't let yourself get too worked up about everything...
P.S. Vigopan doesn't even do anything for me... If you want to study, you're just going to have to study. Especially when the pressure really starts to mount...
Look, I’m turning 21 soon, and I’ve been smoking since I was 16. Honestly, three years isn't even a big deal. I seriously doubt anyone who hasn't been smoking for at least ten years is actually going to see any massive, life-altering changes in their body after they finally quit...
I was actually just venting about this exact thing to a friend of mine who’s in med school. I’ve managed to cut back on smoking, but honestly? I’m terrified of quitting entirely—mostly because I’m scared of packing on the pounds. It feels like everyone I know who quit ended up gaining weight.
But look, the reality is they gained weight because they started eating more. Period. One friend tried to convince me for ages that she didn't even eat more after she quit, that she was just somehow gaining weight from thin air (yeah, right 🙄 ). My dad also put on weight, but he’ll be the first to admit he just started overeating once he tossed his last pack.
My med school friend says you really just need willpower after you stop; you aren't going to magically gain weight from breathing air, but the fact is a lot of people unconsciously snack way more once they quit. That's why you have to control that urge to chew, otherwise the weight creeps in. Sure, a cigarette might bump up your metabolism by maybe 10%, but we shouldn't blame every single pound gained solely on quitting.
My real fear is that I won't be able to control myself at the dinner table if I ditch cigarettes completely. I'm not worried about gaining weight from nothing; I'm worried about the habit that might, I guess, develop within me—just constant snacking..
Then again, last year I went three months without smoking and didn't gain a single ounce, but I was working out pretty hard back then, so maybe that's a solid strategy too—just swap the cigarettes for exercise... If you do that, there probably won't be any weight gain at all.
I guess we’re all dealing with the same thing as students... I’m running into all the exact same issues...
I honestly used to think it was just a total lack of discipline on my part (which, yeah, I definitely don't have), but after reading your posts, now I’m really not so sure..
I mean, sure, discipline helps, but let's be real—it isn't always that easy..
My blood pressure is totally fine, and my blood sugar... well, I actually have no idea. But I am dealing with a hormonal imbalance, and I started taking some new medication recently, so maybe there's a connection there???
Then again, when I think about it—springtime always pulls me out of bed early, but this winter has felt just plain wrong..
Robin Collins5, that whole thing about the internal clock being off is so real! 🙂 Today I actually dragged myself out of bed at 8:30 AM, and honestly, that’s my biggest win of the day (I don't know if anything better could even happen!)
And yeah, I’ve realized that when I’m actually excited about what’s ahead, I can wake up whenever I want. But when my schedule is just packed with routine, heavy, or boring chores? Ugh, I just can'tttttt get myself out of bed... Seriously guys, let's spice things up a bit; find something to look forward to so getting up doesn't feel like such a struggle! 🙂
I don't know, where on earth did you hear that it’s bad for your health?
I'd love to try out a music academy, but honestly, it's just too pricey for me right now.... A trumpet would sound absolutely killer in a band (I've been looping Google Box - 'truth don't die' lately).. But the saxophone... mmmm, man, that instrument is everything-- it's soulful, passionate, sultry, raw, romantic.. I am just obsessed with that sound. Do you actually have any experience playing? Because if I started, I'd be starting from absolute zero...
Oh boy, the moderator is going to kill us.. and ban us from the music section.
1. Die Hard 2. Pulp Fiction 3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 4. The Matrix 5. Wall Street
I mean, I’ve got a ton of other movies that I think are way better, but these specific ones—for one reason or another—just feel like they deserve a permanent spot in my home collection.
I honestly can't stop obsessing over this. I didn't get a wink of sleep last night.
I was on that crap for maybe three or four years. And then there's the whole heavy smoker thing...
After reading all this, I just snapped and chucked a full pack of cigarettes straight into the trash. I was out last night hanging around smokers, and I swear, I didn't feel even a tiny bit of urge to light up. I really hope it stays this way... for the rest of my life.
And finally—I’m heading to a private doctor for a consultation and a check-up. I really want a second opinion on this whole situation.
I used to take them to deal with hormonal issues, but it wasn't even that extreme, just some minor cysts... My girlfriends have similar issues too, so they're on things like Cilest and stuff... Right now, I'm on the "standard" Triquilar, but I'm honestly feeling nauseous just thinking about it.
Diane worked wonders for me. Sure, they have a bit more hormones than other pills on the market, which is exactly why doctors prescribe them for ovarian issues rather than just using them as pure birth control. For me, they were clearly the right call because of my hormonal imbalances.
My skin cleared up—not that I wouldn't kill for even clearer skin, but compared to how bad it was before, it’s a solid 5 out of 10 improvement. My hair growth slowed down too, and I didn't gain weight; honestly, I actually lost a little, though that was somewhat planned (so, it's not like they make dieting harder). My period came in regularly, I didn't deal with bloating—I felt good, really, really good. And my libido? UGH, it’s never been higher... 🙂 But I guess that's mostly because I finally started feeling comfortable in my own skin. The biggest surprise for me was having regular bleeding every month; before this, it was a total disaster, just completely irregular...
The downsides—even though these pills are supposed to reduce cramping, I did experience some mild pain (which I’d never felt before), but it wasn't that bad, seriously. I didn't notice any major mood swings (maybe because I was going through a truly desperate puberty phase before therapy, so I don't know if there are even pills that could trigger worse depressive episodes than the ones I lived through). True, I had waves—one minute I'm crying, then I'm cracking up laughing, then back to depressed... But that happened rarely and I don't link it to the pills; everyone has days like that, even optimists like me. Third thing—zero breast enlargement, as I mentioned earlier.
Still, everything is totally individual. A friend of mine was also put on Diane for a similar issue, and she had a horrific time—bloated like a balloon, pains, nausea, and her breasts grew huge (and she already had large ones, it’s just not fair 😢)... Celest saved her life. So, it really depends...
Please, girls, could you share some more of your experiences with these pills?
Up until now, I’ve been on Diane; I didn't gain any weight, but my breasts didn't really grow either 😢. I finally stopped taking them because they seem to have higher hormone levels, so I’m hoping there won't be any issues with T., either—I mean, if Diane didn't kill me, maybe these won't either (hopefully).
The thing is, since I deal with such awful menstrual issues (polycystic ovaries), I don't bleed at all during my break now. My doctor gave me some tablets (called Primolut-Nor-5) that you take for five days to trigger the bleeding. It’s honestly disgusting—I feel bloated as hell and just feel terrible; I almost threw up last night, which never happens to me, at least not nearly this bad. So now I’m just waiting for my period; it’s supposed to start today, but nothing yet.
So, my new sneakers absolutely wrecked my toenails over the summer.
The fit was just weird, though honestly, it didn't even hurt that much at first since I wasn't wearing any cushions or anything.
But then, before I knew it, my nails started turning blue... 😲
And they actually started lifting off. Luckily, the weather finally cooled down, so I didn't have to walk around in sandals showing them off.
The left one fell off completely, and there was already about a third of a new nail growing underneath. That part actually scares me a little because the growth looks kind of funky, but I'm just hoping everything turns out okay.
As for the right one, it just kept growing forward (like, a new nail wasn't growing under the old one, it just continued normally), so I just trimmed off the damaged part.
They've pretty much grown back by now, but I really don't want this to turn into some huge complication, so I'm heading straight to the doctor immediately.
And those sneakers? They're going straight into the trash. 😠
So, I ended up rewatching Taxi Driver the other day... It’s an old one, but honestly, it doesn't get any less good. If anything, it feels better every single time I see it.
I don't know, it just hits me differently every time. It always leaves me stuck in my own head, thinking about things... And man, the soundtrack is just perfectly synced with certain scenes—like that smooth blues vibe playing while he's patrolling the city at night... It's just incredible...
I have to say, though, I was pretty disappointed when I realized someone had basically ripped off Scent of a Woman.
Carl Bennett78, which movies were you talking about again? Lately, I feel like I've been searching everywhere for something decent to watch, and I'm starting to forget what used to be my go-to favorites.
