PMS madness: any tips for coping? in Health ·
Back in my 40s, I didn't even know what PMS was—everything just worked. But these last two and a half years? A total nightmare. Yesterday I felt sick, then again this morning around 7:00, feeling like I might actually collapse, but I’m not about to make a scene 😁
The stomach aches, the constant hunger, the irritability, the bloating, the puffy eyes, the mood swings... basically, I'm a delight to be around. Not even worth mentioning.
So, I just use it to get things done at work; everyone suddenly listens without questioning a thing 🙂 😁

I’ve slogged through all those books on nutrition in zone, and honestly? It’s all about hormone balance. They control whether you’re starving or stuffed, and you can basically hack them using just food and exercise. It takes time for the gears to turn—getting insulin and glucagon to play nice before you see any actual progress. You can go heavy on the veggies—broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, leafy greens, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes—basically anything high-fiber to fill you up. If hunger hits, lean into the fats. Grab some olives with cheese and rye bread, or just snack on almonds. Fats keep you full without messing with your insulin levels while you're adjusting. Giving up sweets is brutal; I’m an addict myself. In the beginning, I’d stick to two blocks of good carbs (mostly veggies), but I always had to end a big meal with a square of dark chocolate, maybe a dried apricot, or a slice of banana. The point is, nothing is off-limits. You can eat everything, but watch the math. If you want ice cream after dinner, that’s your entire carb allotment for that meal right there—no fruit, no veggies. Make a choice. You aren't in a prison camp; don't torture yourself with starvation, because it won't work. If you slip up, just pivot—grab a hard-boiled egg, a bit of cheese, or some chicken to balance things out. If 10 blocks isn't cutting it, try 11 or 12 and see how your weight moves, then maybe trim a block from lunch or dinner later. It's all an experiment to find what works for you. Maybe you need more carbs depending on your body. Personally, carbs stick to my ribs like glue, so I bump up the protein and scale back the carbs. Just keep testing.
Good luck!

When I’m actually staying on top of things—3 for breakfast, 3 for lunch, 1 snack, 2 for dinner, and 1 late-night bite (usually just a cup of warm milk)—that puts me at 10. Sometimes it hits 11 if it’s one of those brutal days where I need a boost between meals, like some yogurt or an acidophilus drink. I make sure I don't let five hours slip by without eating, and breakfast is non-negotiable. If I have to rush out the door to work without eating, I end up starving by the afternoon and can't resist the candy aisle. So yeah, breakfast is my insurance policy against evening binges. 😛

I don't actually cook oats; I just prep quick oats. Basically, I throw 3 cups of water in a pot, add a pinch of salt, and toss in 30 grams of oats—that counts as two carb blocks. Crank the heat until it hits a boil, then drop it down to a simmer for about 5 or 6 minutes until the oats soak everything up. Sometimes I have to stir it so it doesn't stick to the bottom since it gets pretty thick. Once the heat's off, I pop a lid on and let it sit for an hour or two to set. Then, I mix in about a third of a container (from a 500g tub) of Dole low-fat cottage cheese. Mix it well and it’s killer. It keeps you full forever. Other times, I'll take two scoops of protein powder, whisk it with a bit of lukewarm water to make a creamy paste, and fold that into the oats. I love both ways—one savory, one sweet.
To cut to the chase, I usually boil 90 grams of oats in 9 cups of water—that's 6 carb blocks—and split it into three bowls with 2 blocks each. You could also do two bowls with 3 blocks each if you want to bump up the protein.
Since I’m a complete novice here—does that mean they can safely use antibiotics that aren't penicillin-based, or... honestly, I'm just spiraling with worry!😢
My little guy just developed a sudden, out-of-nowhere allergy to Augmentin. He took one pill and started feeling off—his eyelids swelled up all weird, just looking totally wrong. He took another dose eight hours later and his whole body started itching like crazy; he lifts his shirt and there are these nasty, raised red welts everywhere, spreading down his arms and legs... I rushed him straight to the ER, and they practically cut the line once they saw him. They pumped him full of injections and whatnot... basically, the doctor told me he could have easily ended up in serious trouble from that. Brrrr... it didn't look that life-threatening at first. But once we got there...😲He’d never been allergic to anything before, always handled antibiotics without an issue, then suddenly...

Kids these days don't know a thing 😁 . You can find ground gelatin sitting right there in bags, tucked next to the baking powder and vanilla sugar on the grocery store shelf! 😉

I don't get why everyone says your protein powder is trash. It’s actually great if you do it right: two scoops, a little cocoa powder, and about a cup of skim milk—water just doesn't cut it for me. I whip it all up with a frother until it's super foamy, then toss it in the microwave for a few seconds because I'm a sucker for a warm shake. For me, it hits the knowledge zone perfectly. Drinking it after a workout feels like floating; you can practically feel the heat soaking straight into your muscles!
Usually, I just grab my powder at the local Gold's Gym; even if you aren't a regular there, they sell it. They've got soy, milk, egg, and whey options, plus flavors like hazelnut, vanilla, and chocolate... 🙂
Those Ener Zone bars were decent too, but they're out of stock at the CVS—they're perfect for a quick snack. I saw some Ener Zone pouches at Walgreens with three blocks inside, though I haven't given those a shot yet.

It’s not some complicated thing, just expensive—but man, does it work! It strips away the fat while keeping those muscles looking lean and defined. A solid 5/5 for me.👍
Don't expect a quick fix because this isn't some crash diet; it’s a lifestyle. You can lose weight if you want, or just use the Zone to maintain where you are for years without the constant yo-yoing, depending on how you balance your meals.
I'm currently using the Zone to drop some pounds since I let things slide for a bit, and honestly? It’s working.

Yeah, finally! And it didn't take me long at all—only about 20 years! 🙂 😬

We’re all different; we don't all react the same way. I read the article and decided to give it a shot—personal experience is what actually counts, after all. It works for me, but it might not work for everyone; this isn't some universal truth, just my take. I’m posting this because I think it might help someone dealing with the same kind of stress I do. For me, it's that restless feeling and an upset stomach, sometimes followed by hunger pangs so intense I feel like I'll pass out if I don't raid every box of cookies and chocolate in the house, regardless of how much I know better...😢
I'm learning to handle my problems at work and home a bit smarter, and honestly, it's working. I don't get those crazy hunger spikes or those desperate carb cravings anymore. After a workout, I feel great and generally full of energy. As far as I'm concerned—it's all in the head. Once you fix things up there, the body follows suit, right? 😉
How to gain weight? in Health ·
Watching this forum and reading all those diet magazines, I’ve noticed that 99.9% of people try to fix the symptoms instead of the actual cause of weight gain. It’s just a giant loop—everyone’s spinning in circles. The yo-yo dieting craze proves it, and most of us have been stuck in that cycle before.
I've got some personal experience to back up the theory, so I wanted to throw this out there and see what you guys think.
Basically, I’ve spent my whole life working hard to stay at a steady 135 lbs—maybe hitting 145 at my heaviest. Then, I switch jobs. Suddenly, I’m pulling 12 to 14-hour shifts, often working weekends. It’s a heavy, high-responsibility gig, but I love it, so I don't complain. But after a few months of that grueling pace—boom, I’m 20 pounds heavier! It was brutal. Of course, I tried to fight it, but I couldn't make it to the gym, and my meal prep only lasted maybe two or three days before I fell off the wagon again. I’d eat whenever I finally sat down, skip breakfast, and then absolutely demolish carbs in the evening. And the worst part? That constant, gnawing hunger.
So, about two months ago, I decided enough was enough. I hit the gym three times a week, cut my meals down to the bare minimum allowed by my macros, started eating breakfast, blah blah blah... Fast forward two months later, and I’ve lost exactly two pounds. 😂 🙂 — I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Then, I stumble upon an article about stress and weight gain, and it was like a lightbulb went off. Everything clicked. I realized exactly where I was going wrong, so I wanted to share it with you all.
Here’s the deal: whenever you're stressed, your adrenal glands pump out hormones, and the worst offender here is cortisol. It hits you from several angles. It triggers insulin release, which causes blood sugar to crash, leaving you with an appetite that feels impossible to control. It also travels straight to your fat cells and, working alongside insulin, tells them to store fat while preventing them from burning it for energy—which is supposed to be glucagon's job (insulin's opposite). On top of that, dieting itself is a stressor. It spikes cortisol, making weight loss feel like a suicide mission because of this delicate hormonal tug-of-war. Even intense workouts count as stress.
Once I realized this, my game plan changed. I had to lower my stress levels using anything that triggers endorphins—the only natural enemy to cortisol. Now, I train at a moderate pace and actually try to enjoy the moment. When things get overwhelming, I just go outside and soak up some sunlight, or blast some good music at home. I spend more time with people I actually like... and honestly, I think I’m finally starting to like myself and my life a bit more. 😉
After just one week of shifting my mindset and lifestyle, the weight is actually dropping on its own—I swear! Now I eat breakfast (sticking to my macros), pack snacks for work, eat when I get home, and have something in the evening. I’m not even hungry, yet the weight is coming off!
Anyway, that’s what was on my mind. If this was too long, sorry—I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else the way it helped me.
Best,
👋

Don't waste your breath on pity—not for yourself and certainly not for anyone else. It’s just a drain on your energy, and time moves on regardless.
It sounds to me like you're stuck in a depressive fog, paralyzed by the fear of making a move. You're standing at a crossroads, which is probably why you finally decided to post; there's this desperate itch for change, but you're terrified of pulling the wrong trigger or dealing with the fallout. Look, just shake things up. Even if you make a mess of it, time will tell if you were right. And if you weren't? So what. Life doesn't stop spinning while you 😁analyze the wreckage.
Life isn't some straight shot from A to B. I see it more like a damn labyrinth. They drop you in the middle of it without a map or a compass and say, "Go." That's the deal for all of us. Sometimes you're cruising, sometimes you hit a dead end or slam headfirst into a wall, then you pivot and find your way back. But one thing is certain—whatever path you pick, you will eventually reach the destination. No living soul has ever failed to arrive, you get me?
So, chin up. Look people in the eye. Most of them are just as terrified as you are, staring down the same uncertain future and the same fear of making the wrong call, yet they still push forward. Don't let that paralyze you too. 🙂
Good luck. 👋

We’ve been over this a thousand times already. Stop recycling the same old drama and spinning in circles. Just move forward for once instead of constantly looking back—cut the dead weight. These idiots will drive you straight to an early grave if you let them, so ask yourself if it’s actually worth it. You get one shot at life, and there are plenty of guys out there; we’re talking 8 billion people on this planet. I can’t wrap my head around why it feels like it’s just him and that disgusting old hag. As for her, I’ve already said my piece about her, and I’m not repeating myself. 🙂

Fingers crossed for you. It’s tough to admit, even to yourself, but you’ve finally cleared the first hurdle—now it's a straight shot to the top.
Since I’m at a certain age myself, I can tell you from experience—though God knows how many different versions of myself I’ve cycled through.
A man who truly loves knows what's going on with you without you saying a word. That's step one. Then, he hits the grocery store and comes back loaded with stuff: salmon, chicken breast, cauliflower, apples, rye bread, flowers 😍
even if none of that is actually his favorite. Sometimes I catch a whiff of cheeseburgers or pizza on him and I know exactly where he wandered off to, even if he didn't invite me along 😁
On those Sunday afternoons when everything feels heavy, he just grabs his sneakers and drops them in front of me—letting me pick the route, whether it's a hike in the hills or a stroll through downtown, followed by coffee. For my birthday, he showed up with a little stepper, and just recently he picked up a used stationary bike because "it's a great deal." He does all this casually, no lectures, no snide comments.
When a man loves you, you can tell him anything without hesitation—but honestly, you don't even have to, because the best part is knowing he already gets it.

Look, just kick that idiot in the ass and send him flying away from you, along with his clueless, overbearing mother! Can you actually picture spending your entire life with a guy who doesn't even care about you? Trust me, at your age, that feels like an eternity. And his precious mom? She’ll hate your guts because you're the main rival for her little boy's affection. Believe me, if I were in your shoes, I'd 🙂 non-stop. So, just shake him off. Then go wear that mini skirt if you want—go out, live your life, find some actual joy, and just be free! You'll have plenty of time later to focus on yourself and what you actually want. The fact that you haven't even told him about the problem says everything—your gut knows what you're trying to deny: he's not the one. Don't bother explaining anything, just ghost him. 😁
You're miserable with college too, but that's not an impossible fix. A friend of mine lied to her parents about being a senior when she was actually a freshman at a different school. She didn't have the nerve to tell them the truth, but at least she was honest with herself. And guess what? Nothing happened. Her parents yelled for a bit once they found out, but now she's doing what she loves, so that little drama was worth it, right?
I hit that same wall during my time in college—like, oh my god, what am I even doing here?? 😲 But I pushed through until graduation, and once I started working, I realized the real-world experience is way more interesting than textbooks. In any field, you can find a niche that sticks, where you can become great, and once you're good at something, you actually start liking it.
You hate living in this tiny, dead-end town, and you're constantly worried about what people think because it reflects on your parents (who, I assume, expect a hell of a lot from you). Suggestion: start looking for a job in Washington, D.C. Start digging and networking right now; don't wait until you graduate before... securing a future in a big city. Or, you could make a killing and stay put just to spite the haters—now that would be worth 🙂 😬

Get plenty of daylight. Hang out on the patio, take a stroll, or just do some light yard work outside—it triggers that serotonin release you need to kickstart melatonin production later. It’s basic biology. Forget those old-school "grandma's remedies" like warm milk and honey before bed.
