Gregory Walker15 said:Please, just don't...

I hate it when people resort to grammar police tactics just because they can't win an actual argument... like, fine, we're all uneducated, so what? 😢

Look, I'm totally fine with admitting someone else won this one. Honestly...
Jason Chavez32 actually outplayed me with his logic. Especially that whole bit about—well, you know...
Let's be real though—his "eloquence" is still pretty much unbeatable.

🙏
hollowseal33 said:So rap is just "contained in its own little ghettos" and therefore isn't some big social issue?

I mean, if I start comparing rap to country music—how much more violent it is, how much worse the music sounds to me, and how primitive both the artists and the crowds can be...

Honestly, I have no clue why rap doesn't bother me... 🙂
LostCase said:if you just banned country music by executive order, idiots would probably just start shooting at each other to some random beat... or have been doing it for years... what does any of that even have to do with the music?

I don't know. Country music is more like a symptom...
What can we actually do? I guess we could start by just talking...
Jason Chavez32 said:So... what exactly do you want us to say? There isn't even a right answer here—do you actually have a question at all?

First thing's first—maybe try not putting accents on the wrong letters...
☕ We can talk about the rest later...
Gregory Walker15 said:chill out Jason Chavez32, we're just here to debate whether there's any actual culture left in this country...

that’s literally the whole point of the thread 😉

Man, seriously... am I asking for too much?
Or is being totally checked out just the only thing people value around here these days...
Gregory Walker15 said:same thing over here.

Like I said—I don't even hang out with people who listen to that stuff, nor have I ever actually heard it playing anywhere... ☕

So now it looks like I'm out here trying to strike up a conversation with some cab driver or a lady driving a bus in Placentia. Or maybe those folks across from the cathedral in Jackson who blast folk music in their bars?
Gregory Walker15 said:They aren't even mainstream. I've never seen those types of people on TV—honestly, I've barely heard of them in my life.

Social problem? Give me a break... people are just having fun. Plus, like Rališa said, if it isn't this crowd today, it'll probably be some techno kids tomorrow. Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all... ☕

Is it any different in America?

We don't have cheerleaders here.

Besides, everyone knows that cliché: "If you could do just one thing, what would it be?" "Oh, I'd bring world peace!" 🙄

Didn't really feel like double-checking my grammar above, so feel free to call me out... 😳

Maybe I was being a little too sensitive. But hey, I guess it's my lucky break—getting to hear everything I missed in five years all at once during these two weeks in the US...
Just my luck. 😬
Pen said:Do you feel the same way about rap?

Not really. They’re kind of contained in their own little neighborhoods... they don't bother me, and I don't bother them...
😬 😛
raliSHA said:Basically, you can't change what the masses like—you just observe it... and honestly, all the whining from the "refined" crowd has gotten pretty old ☕

Just as much as ignoring it—which isn't really doing anyone any favors lately...
☕
hollowseal33 said:I've honestly never heard any real country music at a dance—not even blasting in a taxi through NYC... Magazin and Severina aren't even playing that genre.

I can only blame my own damn luck for that... 😬 🤣
Jason Chavez32 said:look at him, he’s basically me now—just actually behaving himself... 👍

keep dreaming. 🙄
stormywolf39 said:Bottom line is—you can't really change what people like, you just watch it happen... and honestly, all that whining from the "highbrow" crowd? It’s getting pretty old... ☕

Well, if that's how it goes—if those girls are already mainstream—then my whole attempt at being a bad influence is pretty much pointless...
I’m not saying I’m "more cultured" than anyone else—and trust me, I'm not trying to sound arrogant here... I really do respect alternative ways of expressing yourself, and I totally get that kitsch can actually be its own kind of art, but for me, trashy pop music just doesn't make the cut in my book...
What even counts as a social issue these days... it's all just so messy... It basically just captures how bleak the vibe is around here—portraying all these weird stereotypes that end up being the exact blueprint for our kids...
Girls want to be "influencers" — you know, those little socialite types — and guys? Forget being athletes... they just want to be mobsters... 😛
analogharbor442 said:I just love being the little red ribbon on top of everyone's pot lid

Jason Chavez32 is into that too—but he’s kind of an idiot... 🙄
You, though—you're just totally checked out.
Why is that?
no idea said:Neither.

Where on earth would I get taxi money? lol...

That's just how it works—fancy rides, fancy music 😁

🤣
analogharbor442 said:just come over and fix it if it's really bothering you that much

It's all good. It doesn't actually bug me that much...
But why the attitude, if you don't mind me asking?
Jason Chavez32 said:... if ju nou vot aj miiin 😉

man, talk about deep...👍
Gregory Walker15 said:So what am I supposed to do?

Punch the people who listen to it?

Besides that, I don't think I've ever even had to deal with country music...🤔

Maybe it's because you haven't flown into JFK Airport lately... 🙂
Or maybe you were just riding around in a New York or Chicago taxi?
analogharbor442 said:as if American music is somehow more cultured... modern R&B isn't even that different from turbo-folk..

See how easy it is to come up with a perfect little comeback when you actually try... 🙂
I don't know why I can't seem to get annoyed by R&B, maybe you have an idea... 😬
Gregory Walker15 said:Things are actually pretty chill here compared to that other thread 🤮

EDIT: gonna say something on-topic too, even though these endless threads about influencers are driving me crazy...

Sandra King86, I don't get why this bothers you—just let people have their fun. Especially since you live in the States, you don't exactly have to deal with it... 😉

Work is just dragging today, so I figured I'd chime in...😬
Honestly, I think our own culture bugs me more than the influencers, but whatever.
I thought maybe someone would suggest a way to handle it besides just ignoring it—since you can't really ignore it—but it looks like you guys have built up a much stronger immunity than I have, since I don't have to deal with this stuff every single day.
Samuel Murphy6 said:So you're saying girls are your thing? 🙂

The Midwest is everything to me—and girls... they're just my absolute weakness... 🙂
