I was watching some clips of junior sports highlights earlier today, and it honestly feels like there’s this new generation of kids who are just built differently. It’s not even just about physical strength anymore; it feels like their technical precision and mental focus are on a totally different level compared to when we were growing up.

I remember being a teenager and thinking I was pretty decent at my hobbies, but looking at these high-level youth competitions now, the gap is massive. It’s almost intimidating. Part of me is inspired, but another part of me just wonders if we're witnessing a fundamental shift in how kids are being trained or if they're just naturally more disciplined because of the way the world works now.

Do you think it's a matter of better coaching and technology, or are we just seeing a different kind of talent emerging?

Should I play it safe and use certified mail through the USPS, or just stick with FedEx?
The guys at FedEx told me they’d reimburse whatever amount I write down on the confirmation, but honestly, that sounds a little sketchy to me..

FedEx guarantees the value up to $167, but anything over that is on you.

I’m actually boycotting the USPS right now—they lost a certified package of mine and I’ve been sitting around waiting for a reimbursement for weeks now...
Zachary Peterson6 said:This isn't really about the post itself, it's more about whoever is handling the delivery...

Look, this is the first time I’ve actually had a tracked package go missing on me, which is why I’m asking.
If it hasn't shown up by the end of the week, I'm heading down there in person to deal with it. This whole thing has dragged on way too long—I already refunded her money two weeks ago, so now I'm just stuck waiting on the USPS to get their act together. :gah:
How long does it usually take them to send over a settlement decision? I’ve been sitting here waiting for two weeks now. Should I be getting worried, or is this just business as usual?
Arthur Green5 said:I mean, yeah, this is definitely weird. I remember sending something similar from Miami headed to Russia, and within twenty-four hours it was already in Washington, D.C. and sitting at customs waiting to be processed. Just shoot me a private message with the "tracking link" so we can actually see what the status is if it hasn't shown up yet.

Honestly, checking the tracking is a total waste of time. I actually went down to the local Post Office yesterday and they couldn't find a trace of it; they ended up filing a missing package report. 🙂

Fingers crossed they track it down eventually.....
Is it actually normal for a priority shipment to take a whole week to get to Washington, D.C.? I’m starting to get a little anxious here, especially since the tracking info hasn't updated since it was received in Miami.
Back in the day, stuff used to land in D.C. within a single day.
Elizabeth Palmer2 said:Has anyone managed to get any inside info on what the shipping rates for News Corp parcels are going to look like after New Year's Day?

They already bumped up the prices on $5.00:

Basically, I'm wondering if I'm sending something in this yellow envelope, should I tie it up with some string or just write the address on the envelope and seal it with tape...and when I take it to the USPS, do I have to tell them I'm sending it as a certified package, or does it count as a certified letter....
And regarding the payment, is it normal for the person I'm sending it to to ask for their name, last name, and address in addition to the account number?...
I don't know, it's my first time doing this so I'm a bit confused...thanks

If you're using an envelope, you don't need string. You only really use string on packages to make them easier to carry.

When you get to the post office, you just have to specify whether you want standard or certified shipping.

And that third thing is totally normal: they need your name to process the payment.

I've got a baby basin to ship out, dimensions are 77x53x21, weighs about 1.5 kg.

Is wrapping it in just paper enough? I'm worried the mail carriers will just smash it to pieces if I don't use a box.
Also, what's the cheapest way to get this sent? Can I just walk into the Post Office and send it as a package, or does it have to go through FedEx?
Or maybe there's another way...😢
Thanks in advance

You really ought to put that in a large box. You can use the USPS or FedEx, though FedEx is going to cost you more.
Maria Fowler28 said:Hey guys, what’s the best way to ship a small item like clothing? Should I send it as certified mail or just a regular package? Also, can I just buy a box from them when I get there? And does a package even need to be sent certified, or is that overkill?

If it’s light, certified mail will end up being cheaper for you. Shipping a full package starts at $6.00 a minimum.

If the kiosk is up and running, then why the hell isn't it working?
Jacob Bennett6 said:There’s no such thing as 🙄

Based on their pricing sheet here

There are 4 options:
Package services: economy or premium
FedEx (UPS): pickup at the post office or at your address

Do any of these 4 shipping options include a tracking number?

I called customer service, but they just made everything more complicated and started rambling about some kind of $240 😲 So I'm asking here to see if anyone actually has experience shipping a package like this overseas.

Other courier services are even more expensive (well over $333).

For domestic shipping, both registered mail and packages come with a tracking number, so I assume it works the same way for international shipments.
You'll have to check the USPS website for the specifics.

That said, sending it via registered mail is cheaper than a standard package—at least for lighter items—but I'm not sure if you can send anything heavier than 2 lbs internationally via registered mail; looking at the rates, it doesn't seem possible. FedEx is obviously the most expensive route.

And watch yourself when you're shipping—you can't show up with a sealed box for the customs declaration; the clerk at the counter needs to be able to see what's inside.
Jacob Bennett6 said:I need to ship a 2kg package to the States, but the recipient is insisting on having a tracking number.
Does anyone know if we can actually do that here? And what kind of a hit is it going to take out of my wallet?

Look, pretty much any shipment worth sending should have a tracking number. As for the price, you can just check the USPS website.🙂
Betty Wilson15 said:Hey there,
I need to ship some perfume via certified mail. It’s in an aluminum bottle, so it won't shatter, and the cap is incredibly tight—there's zero chance of it popping off on its own. I tucked it into a sturdy, thick cardboard box nestled in some packing peanuts so nothing shifts around. I taped the box shut, wrapped the whole thing in white paper, and tied it with twine. Does that sound alright? When I shake the package, I can hear the liquid moving inside; do you think the post office will give me any grief about it, like trying to open it up if they suspect the packaging isn't up to par?

Sounds fine. Just make sure there's absolutely no wiggle room in the box so it doesn't bang against the sides. They'll take it just like that.🙂

How does the whole claim process actually work?

It’s still way too early to be filing a claim. Just hang tight for a bit longer; there's a chance it shows up. You should also double-check with your girlfriend to make sure she’s absolutely certain nothing arrived—tell her to just swing by the local Post Office to check. This happened to me once: I was shipping something to some tiny rural town and the mail carrier totally forgot to leave a notice. My friend went down to the station on a hunch and the package was 🙂
right there waiting for her.

Is there a way I can receive a certified package or something where I pay cash on delivery if I'm living at a rental address?
Can I just format it like this:
*my full name*
(Apt XYZ)
street address, house number
etc...

Thanks!

Yeah, that looks fine to me. I've actually sent stuff that way before to friends who were renting.
Zachary Peterson6 said:Why would you think it's too expensive? I just sent a certified letter over to Canada yesterday for about $3.50...

I was looking into shipping packages, which is a whole different ballgame.
Elizabeth Davis said:Look, I'm covering the shipping too—that was the deal. But we didn't settle on any specifics until I actually knew what the shipping costs were.

So why didn't she just ask how much shipping would be? Like you said, there’s a price list online; you just clearly can't make sense of it.

I'm just hoping it ends up being cheaper than what we deal with here. In the States, it's honestly not even worth sending anything to Mexico or Canada... the shipping rates are just ridiculous.
urbancobra12 said:What's my best bet for shipping some stuff?
I've got a shirt and a skirt, and I'm worried if I put them in a box, the recipient will have to trek down to the post office to pick them up. I'd much rather have it delivered right to their door.
Can I just fold them into a plain poly mailer so it looks like those eBay packages we get?
My main goal is obviously to keep costs down. 😉

First off, weigh the items. Then, head over to the USPS website and compare the rates for a package versus a certified letter for that specific weight. 🙂

You can actually send things in a box via certified mail; at least, that’s how I usually handle it. I use poly mailers too.
Maria Fowler28 said:^^thanks, girls! I'm just wondering if I need to write my home address on it myself or if they handle all that on their end? Honestly, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff 🙂

You have to take care of it; they aren't going to package it, tape it, or write the address for you 😁
