I recently dropped way too much cash on a Vinyl to finish out my favorite artist's collection. After waiting forever for it to arrive, I finally picked it up at the post office only to realize the cardboard corner was bent. On the drive home, I was already playing out this whole disaster scenario in my head—thinking the record itself was cracked and that I’d be stuck in some endless battle with PayPal and the seller over a refund. Luckily, it was just a slightly dented cover; the actual records were untouched and actually arrived in better shape than I expected.
To get back to the point, though—I buy music even if I end up pirating or streaming it anyway. I love Vinyl because, if it's mastered and pressed correctly, the sound is just superior. There’s something really heartwarming about listening to an album you know inside and out, then dropping the needle and catching little details you never noticed before.
Then again, there are some total duds out there—like the new Michael Kiwanuka album. In digital format, that record is bursting with sound, but on Vinyl, all that richness seems to vanish, and I feel like I totally wasted my money on it.
