Sexual Dysfunction Discussions in Psychology ·
I have a feeling you might be blowing things a bit out of proportion, and if there really is an issue here, it might actually be stemming from something else entirely. But, if this truly is the only sticking point and he’s great in every other way, then perhaps just try to overlook it.
What defines a frustrated single woman? in Psychology ·
I know three women in their mid-thirties to mid-forties who have never even been married, and I honestly find their lifestyles quite appealing. What kind of people are they? Well, more or less... though it’s rare for me to find someone I truly admire in every single way. To be fair, most women seem to possess some sort of irritating quirk that, whether they are married or not, just makes them difficult for me to fully like.
If I were to tally up all the women I know whom I actually respect, and then split them into groups of those who are married versus those who have remained single: the married ones would be leading the count at about 3 to 1.

Is he a critic? in Psychology ·
I’m not entirely sure... I haven't really encountered many critics in my life. Or maybe I have, and I just subconsciously ignored them? When people aren't particularly interesting to me or they start getting on my nerves, I don't even take them seriously. In a way, this might not even be a flaw; I actually enjoy hearing good advice, and I appreciate it when someone disagrees with me. What really gets under my skin are the "yes-men"—those people who just constantly tell me, "Oh, northerntrucker42, you're absolutely right." Honestly, maybe I am a critic myself, which would explain why I find those types so grating.

I also can't stand people who always have to have the last word—you know, the ones who act like they know more, can do more, or have it better than everyone else. I have no patience for people who turn every conversation into a competition, constantly trying to outdo you because they feel the need to be superior. They can't just have a normal conversation without turning it into a bragging session. It's simple, really... I just want to live my own life. I don't need to be "better" than you. Just back off. Though, I do occasionally worry that I might be one of them... people naturally love to share updates about their lives. If you get a new boyfriend, you want to mention it; if you move into a new apartment, you want to tell someone; if you get a raise at work, you're practically glowing. It's just human nature, I suppose... but you can definitely tell when someone is truly overdoing it.

Thanks. I actually already downloaded that track and a few others from Winamp.
Spanish and French rock bands in Music ·
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for something a bit more intense, maybe leaning more toward heavy metal 😁 Spanish specifically... I really love the language and can understand a decent amount of it, so I'd love to dive into some bands from that culture. Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction!

Thoughts on Jean-Paul Sartre? in Philosophy ·
I find myself in agreement with him... just look at how many people are satisfied and yet... so few... no one seems to be truly content... everyone is searching for something. They crave limitations, laws, and regulations, because for a society to actually function, all of those things are absolutely essential. I honestly think if humans were ever truly free, we'd probably be extinct within a few weeks. Perhaps man's greatest invention is actually his own lack of freedom.

Actually, not really... I don't care one bit... 🙂

Thank goodness they aren't the Rolling Stones. 🙏

Marakeš said:northerntrucker42, the patron saint of parking spaces. Look, if you're going to tug on a police officer's sleeve just because they bother you, maybe don't go scratching people's cars instead. Thank goodness there are fines for illegal parking that reach up to $267.

Well, I never said I was scratching them with my keys, or even that I actually scratched one... I simply meant I wonder if I might. You know, while I'm passing by... if I could just zap their tires with my pedals... 😁... unfortunately, my bike is too narrow, so I haven't had the experience of being unable to squeeze through yet. I did have to get off my seat recently because I had less than 20 inches of clearance. And it doesn't occur to me to waste my time hunting down some local cops... they're usually busy driving over the sidewalks in Brooklyn 😁 anyway, just to avoid any confusion.

Well, you might want to give some extra thought to your parking strategy next time. If you follow the local ordinances and make sure there's plenty of room left for wheelchairs and cyclists, you really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I honestly couldn't care less about those pedestrians on the road. It’s actually hilarious watching a packed Greyhound bus 😁 when it's 95 degrees outside, but inside it feels like 105 with all the fumes and heat rising. I tend to ride quite fast (especially compared to walkers), and since I always have my headphones in, I don't hear any of the complaining. I also find myself cutting off cars at crosswalks all the time. If someone parks illegally and blocks my path, I’ll just squeeze my bike right past them—I really don't care if I scratch their paint; they should just be glad I didn't call a tow truck. We cyclists are basically the kings of the road; pedestrians and drivers are just beneath us. 😁

One really ought to master the art of driving 😁 😉

I’m just not a fan of Converse; they really don't do much for me. Seriously though. They’re canvas, so I can't exactly wear them once winter hits, and when summer rolls around, I'd much rather just grab some sandals because of the heat. On top of that, it bugs me how overpriced they actually are. If they were around $50, which is what they're worth, I might actually pick up a pair—mostly just to lean into that whole punk aesthetic whenever I'm feeling 😉... but they end up costing more than $133, for heaven's sake. THAT IS NOT CHEAP!

Just feeling cynical... in Philosophy ·
I’m with you there, Jonathan Brown6; honestly, philosophy feels pretty redundant most of the time. There isn't really a constructive reason to philosophize, which is why whenever you start overcomplicating things, people just tell you: "Stop overthinking it."
It’s much more enjoyable to focus on what’s tangible and practical. That said, I occasionally find reading philosophical works interesting... so why shouldn't I? 😁 Perhaps it would be a bit too restrictive to limit myself by avoiding them entirely—I mean, why bother? Even if they turn out to be useless, or even if they can be interpreted in a hundred different ways?
Besides... on the other hand, they do seem to have some application in politics, religion, sociology, and ethics... even if those fields are all technically unnecessary, damn it, they've managed to find their place in modern American society.
As for my favorites, Fromm is at the top of my list, followed by Spinoza, and Jonas is alright too... well, at least among those I've actually read. I certainly wouldn't dare claim an author is one of my favorites if I haven't gone through their work. 😁
Ever since I’ve been aware of my own body, I’ve always understood the purpose of a penis, and it was a perfectly normal thing for me to accept. Honestly, though, I was never even jealous of them because, let's be real, they aren't exactly winning any beauty pageants. I think they look a bit better to me now, but back when I was a little girl, I thought they were just plain ugly. My only real grievance is that they have such an easy time peeing, and they don't have to deal with monthly periods while we do.
