Watch out for those road crews—if you can even call them that. I just wiped out again because of a pothole on Broadway that was easily eight inches deep and two feet wide. Honestly, thank God my backpack was stuffed to the brim; it actually cushioned the impact from the pavement. Otherwise, I'm done.

Come on... it would be a bit too much bad karma if I hit rock bottom twice in the same year...

Oh, please... this was one of those spectacular wipeouts that usually ends without much consequence—those damn falls from five to seven are where the actual danger lies...

As long as everything is running smoothly, that's what really matters... 😉

Another way to lose control: it’s raining, you hit the tracks at too shallow an angle... I didn't even see it coming, my wheel just slipped out from under me. If a subway train had been passing by, it probably would've trashed my handlebars. To say the least.

Honestly, some of these drivers have absolutely zero awareness. It’s like nobody gives a damn about cyclists, especially those who are actually picking up a bit of speed.
Hey everyone, just a heads-up: please stop laying on the horn at cyclists from behind when you're out on an open road. It's incredibly jarring and can be genuinely dangerous.

True. When a semi-truck hauling livestock decides to overtake a cyclist, especially when they pull up right on your tail about thirty feet back, you’re basically at the mercy of physics. At that point, you either swerve into the ditch out of pure panic or end up under the wheels. 😠So please... just don't... use your brakes.
And if I really have to end up as a smear on the pavement, I'd prefer to be right next to Grace Scott2's spot. 😉 🙂 Or we could just stack two smears on top of each other. 🙄

Has anyone else ever wiped out on their bike because a dog decided to chase you down?
I was cruising through a wooded trail when this Lassie-type popped out of the brush at me. I slammed on the brakes, but I hit a patch of loose gravel right before a sharp bend, and since I was carrying too much momentum, I ended up performing a full-blown somersault and eating dirt. Thankfully, the big guy just gave me a little nudge with his nose, looked pretty satisfied with himself, and then vanished back into the woods just as quickly as he showed up.

Not yet, I have to say. But when I’m out on my bike, there is nothing that gets under my skin quite like an unleashed dog roaming the streets—it hits that same specific nerve as seeing an irresponsible driver cutting people off when I'm behind the wheel of my car. They behave in much the same way: just wandering aimlessly right through the middle of the road, showing absolutely zero regard for their own safety or the people trying to navigate the traffic around them.

So, here’s the big question on my mind today: what are we actually going to do about all these cyclists?
