mistybear4 said:what hardly anyone actually asks their doctor is: "hey doc, what kind of side effects is this stuff gonna wreck my system with?"
or when you're talking about kids—"would you actually give this med to your own kid?" ... 😕

we're talking thyroid issues here, hormone secretion, and look—maybe I don't have all the fancy medical jargon down pat, but I know enough folks who sorted their mess out just by switching to "cellular nutrition," but a few of you guys can't even wrap your heads around that... or believe it... 🙂

look man, my wife had a tumor, and she ended up in surgery where they had to cut it out

and while they were at it, they sliced out a chunk of her thyroid too

the doctor recommends hormone replacement therapy—basically taking pills every day—if the rest of her thyroid isn't pumping out enough T3 and T4

so, where does this (classicly blunt) assumption come from that T3 and T4 are these nasty drugs with terrifying side effects? T3 and T4 are literally just the hormones a healthy person's thyroid produces naturally

if you're missing thyroid tissue—whether it’s because autoimmune stuff ate it away or, like in my case, a surgeon had to lop it out—then you take them externally just so you can actually drag yourself out of bed in the morning

it's the exact same deal as Type 1 diabetes and insulin

I mean, would you seriously suggest "cellular nutrition" to a kid who lacks beta cells and depends on external insulin? 😉
I don't think so

mistybear4 said:then they gotta go tell those doctors that everything that goes south after following their advice is actually ON THEM—not just part of the job... 😛

🤣

come on mistybear4, give it a rest...

illness is caused by a million different things. stuff "goes wrong" because of a whole bunch of factors, and honestly? bad medical advice is probably the least of them...

and please, don't start with that whole "if everyone on Earth just did X, nobody would ever get sick" nonsense right now 😁

look, when you're dealing with something that isn't just gonna clear up on its own (like a common cold, for instance), you have to make a call on how you're gonna handle it.
if you decide to go the "alternative" route—whatever that means to you—then stick to it, man, and be ready to deal with whatever fallout comes from that choice. 😉

if you choose mainstream Western medicine—well, the exact same logic applies. 😁 🙂

I really hope you aren't sitting there thinking that the first option involves "thinking for yourself" while the second one doesn't... 😁

Jose Miller3 said:Look, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but that little "suggestion" of yours basically gave her a 60-day expiration date!!!

Three liters... that's like, roughly a gallon, so if she's doing half a liter a day—boom—60 days max!

Damn, man, you probably killed her faster than kidney failure would have!!!

😂

And honestly? You really think she’d even last more than a few days drinking milk that's been sitting out with some chicken hearts soaked in it for 13 days in the heat? No way...😈
Kidney issues in Health ·
Wait, are you actually telling me you didn't like my suggestion? 😢

😬
Kidney issues in Health ·
You looking for some "old-school home remedy" for your thyroid?

Alright, listen up:

You gotta take an old hen—I'm talking at least three months and six and a half days old—and butcher her under a full moon, making sure she's facing north. Point that chicken tail south, and for heaven's sake, don't let a single drop of blood touch the ground. You rip that heart right out of her chest and toss it into three liters of whole milk, letting it soak in a warm spot for exactly 13 days.

Then, every single morning for the rest of your life, you drink about half a cup of that milk right as the sun peeks over the horizon. And don't even think about being late... if you miss the sunrise, the whole thing is useless!

It just hit me today, you know? Like, out of nowhere... I thought about posting a question over on Cybermed, but honestly, looking at them lately, they take like two months to respond. Not exactly the most reliable crew if you need answers fast.

Sorry about that clunky sentence in my last post, 😵 but it looks like you caught my drift.

I reckon you might actually get a decent answer in a reasonable timeframe if you check out http://www.zdravljeizivot.com/forum/index.php

Dr. D. Husar always gives solid advice, though...

I don't have Asthma

but I'm curious—what did those doctors actually tell you?

See, I’ve been dealing with this other chronic condition since I was a kid... and from day one, getting all the info on what to do if I ever ended up pregnant was just part of the mandatory rundown they give you...
fadedtrucker19 said:If he’d been taught by those guys, the first thing they would've called it is nitrogen.

Not necessarily...

They taught me "nitrogen." Those people can be so stubborn sometimes! 🙂

Nitrogen, carbon—Iraq, Iran—it's all the same stuff in the end. You'll figure that out in five or ten years, trust me... 😁 🤣
It was two days of pure hell—just enough time to sit around and rot in the lecture hall—but then out of nowhere, Wednesday actually turned out sunny

Chemical Inquisition 🤣

Smells like straight-up sulfur over here (shoutout to darkbison81 who’s convinced he can smell it through the screen 🙂 )

And apparently, it's carbon emissions because the professor happens to be from the South 😂
Rachel Brooks63 said:Not me. But I’ve got the conference program right here in front of me, so I guess you could say rustymoose54 is...

And I actually grabbed a selfie with Tony Kukoc... 🙄

And me? Hanging out with Zdravko Colic 🤣

Santa Barbara: I was there, and so was Richard Ernst 😎

There were a few other folks running around too, but honestly, who cares...
Susan Gomez33 said:So, Rachel Brooks63, if I'm getting this right, you're basically home free... weren't you heading out to meet some Nobel laureate over in Santa Barbara? 😉

The guy actually showed us an MRI of his own head 😁

Claims he was dying to see what was rattling around in there...

Then he just looked totally let down when he realized his brain looks exactly like everyone else's... typical. 😁

Walter Wilson said:So wait, if that's the case, why does every health blog claim dark chocolate is some kind of miracle cure?! Like, they say eating 100 grams of it every single day is gonna magically fix your blood sugar and drop your high blood pressure... seriously? 🙄

I can't speak to the blood pressure thing, honestly

but when it comes to sugar—I mean, no matter how "dark" they claim it is, there’s still sugar in there... otherwise, it would taste like straight-up ash, let's be real.

If someone's already dealing with high blood sugar, they can't just cut out the candy bars and call it a day. You have to watch *everything* carbohydrate-wise—we're talking bread, pasta (yeah, even the whole wheat stuff! 😬 ), potatoes, rice, cornmeal, starchy veggies, and definitely fruit... plus milk and yogurt because of the lactose... basically, you've gotta track every single calorie

...so I have zero clue where eating nearly a pound (!) of chocolate fits into that equation, no matter how bitter it claims to be...

I mean, if you’re out here playing prophet and predicting everyone's diabetes diagnosis, then sure, I can throw orthorexia into the mix too...

Don't go getting ideas—I didn't say anyone here actually has it 😉

And look, I don't know everything—honestly, I won't live long enough to figure it all out anyway 😁 besides, this whole "everyone is an expert on everything" mindset is driving me absolutely insane 🙂

As for gaining weight from so-called "healthy food," I've lived through it personally. Get this—I put on 22 pounds without touching a single grain of processed sugar. I was eating specialized bread, tons of fiber and veggies, kept animal fats to a bare minimum—basically all fats for that matter—nothing fried, heaven forbid, not even dried fruit... 😁

Okay, fine, I'll give you credit and admit it was all about programmed weight gain. But the bottom line remains: I was eating ultra-healthy, and I still managed to pack on the pounds quite successfully 😎

Sandra Hayes88 said:Besides, that whole theory of yours about overeating healthy food... it's highly unlikely you'd actually eat way more than you need when that kind of stuff actually makes you feel full—unlike all that refined foods junk.

Honestly, it feels like the whole point of your posts is just throwing around big words and acting like an expert without offering any actual, real-world advice.

🙄

Dammit, Zen, it's not even my "theory"—it's just how things are.

As for getting advice—go see a professional, pay the fee, and get your answers there. I’m just calling out the straight-up lies people are dropping in here.

And one of those lies is the claim that "people who live on sugarcane don't get diabetes."

Look, I get it, but orthorexia isn't exactly the healthiest thing in the world either...😉

mistybear4 said:I haven't yet—mostly because I'm a sucker for just eating everything in sight—but hey, if a decent crew ever gets together at the local sportsbook, we could probably work out a deal... 😉 😁

Whatever, man... everyone’s got their own thing, and yours happens to be chasing the bag.

But what about sacrificing yourself for the sake of science? 😁

mistybear4 said:but honestly, I’m telling you all right now—I’d be perfectly fine, healthy as a horse, if I just lived on nothing but protein shakes for my one meal a day... 🙂

Have you actually tried it on yourself first? 😉

Sandra Hayes88 said:What’s even wrong with that?
The idea being that sugar extracted from sugarcane becomes toxic to us, whereas whole sugarcane itself isn't harmful?
EXACTLY.

I was saying there aren't even CASES of diabetes among people who just eat raw sugarcane.
But for those eating Refined foods? Yeah, they get it.
And look, there's a massive difference between what you're allowed to eat once you've already been diagnosed with diabetes...
I'm talking about the CAUSE here, while you're stuck obsessing over the CONSEQUENCES.
Refined foods cause diabetes—and then the consequence is that you can't even touch fruit anymore without worry.
Fruit doesn't CAUSE diabetes.

You've got it wrong, Sandra Hayes88

Diabetes (the so-called "adult-onset" Type 2 kind) is actually a result of insulin resistance...
It's a genetic predisposition, sure, but one of the huge factors driving the disease is obesity.

And honestly? You can get fat just by eating perfectly healthy, "unrefined" food if you're eating way more calories than you need...

Sure, processed, refined foods packed with sugar definitely drive weight gain and really do contribute to diabetes.

But at the end of the day, someone with the genetic lean toward diabetes is going to get it regardless of how they put on the weight.

Besides, you see plenty of people who aren't even overweight suffering from Type 2 diabetes. On the flip side, not every single person who struggles with weight ends up with it.
Bread consumption habits in Health ·
man, honestly... everything you guys are rambling about is just academic nonsense from some PhD who’s never lived a day in the real world.

you'd probably get a much better idea of what food actually matters if you just asked a construction worker or a social worker what they think about nutrition 😎
Bread consumption habits in Health ·
Sandra Hayes88, "refined" basically means "processed"

When people say "complex," they're talking about the chemical structure—we're dealing with polymers here...

The main thing in white bread is STARCH. And starch is a complex carb.

Sorry, but you can't really compare two concepts that aren't even connected like that...

The main ingredient in "unrefined" whole wheat bread is also starch. It’s just that, you know, you've got a bunch of bran tossed in there (which is what gives it that "unrefined" vibe), and that stuff SLOWS DOWN ABSORPTION and the breakdown of that exact same starch (into Glucose), so you don't get that massive spike in blood sugar.

Plus, you can actually eat more whole wheat bread than white bread while keeping the calories the same... mostly because there's way more fiber. That's the whole reason why the dark stuff gets labeled as "unrefined"

There’s no such thing as refined vs. unrefined starch—it's just one single molecule 😉, but if there's fiber, bran, or other bulk material attached to it in the food, then we start talking about it being unrefined.

Sandra Hayes88 said:There’s a massive difference between complex carbs and refined ones. You’re talking about COMPLEX carbs—which, fine, I agree can be useful—but we’re discussing how nasty REFINED carbs are because they've been processed; I don't know if this is the perfect analogy, but think of the difference between COMPLEX carbs and REFINED ones being like the difference between a fresh steak or fish and a canned meat paste.
Well, look, if you spend your entire day eating meat paste instead of actual fresh meat or fish—just like people gorge on white bread, pasta, sugar, cookies, and pastries instead of whole grains...
REFINED carbs are linked to all sorts of issues like diabetes, cavities, hormonal imbalances, acne, obesity, etc., whereas COMPLEX carbs aren't.

"complexity" and "refinement" aren't even in the same universe, let alone comparable"

following that flawed logic, I guess white bread would just be made of "simple" carbs

which isn't true at all. It's packed with STARCH, which is a complex carbohydrate.
