I don't quite have the courage to bring up that whole business regarding stopping birth control pills anywhere else, so I thought I’d reach out to you all here instead...
I started taking them back in February, and honestly, I can tell you from experience that I didn't run into any of those scary side effects our group is always worrying about—you know, things like hair loss or breakouts and all that. Everything has been smooth sailing for me so far.

I was wondering, when did your cycles finally settle back into a normal rhythm for you all? For me, the very first period after I stopped taking birth control didn't show up until two months later, and now my second one is already ten days late. :/

I probably should apologize in advance because someone might have already asked this... but

Since I’ve been on birth control for nearly three years now, I was wondering—does it still matter if I schedule my Pap smear during the middle of my cycle, or does being on the pill change things?
Right now, the last third of my cycle works best for me, both in terms of my schedule and my budget, but if doing it then isn't ideal, I’d rather not go through the hassle for nothing...
I could really use some guidance here!
So, I’m looking at some coagulation results for a man in his early twenties.

His INR came back at 0.95, though the lab report didn't provide any specific reference ranges. Everything else in his blood work and coagulation panel looks perfectly normal. Does an INR of 0.95 mean anything specific? Is it considered within a healthy range, and if not, what would be the typical target for a guy his age?

Thanks so much in advance!!
Am I asking this again? It seems like nobody actually knows what it means when a urine protein test shows "opalescent." (The reference range is, of course, 0/negative)
Hello everyone. I finally managed to pick up my son's lab results today... The urine culture came back sterile.
Everything looks fine in the urinalysis, with just a few exceptions:

Protein: It shows turbidity (I'm honestly not quite sure what that implies in this context)
Leukocytes: 6-8 (x400)

I realize these numbers seem relatively small, but they still seem to deviate slightly from the standard range. Would anyone be willing to help me make sense of these findings? Thank you so much. 🙂

I’m in urgent need of a reliable gynecologist in the greater Chicago area... but I’m specifically looking for someone within the public healthcare system rather than a private practice. Does anyone happen to know a doctor who is currently accepting new patients?

Well, here's the thing... I’ve been thinking about shifting my cycle just a little bit. I’d love to have my period arrive two days earlier than usual, mostly just so I can have some peace of mind heading into the New Year 😁. I was wondering if it would be smarter to start a new pack of birth control pills two days before my current break ends—basically on the fifth day of the break—or if I should just stop taking them two days before the next scheduled break begins?
Which approach makes more sense, or does it honestly not matter much?
Hey everyone, how's it going? in Miscellaneous ·
Dammit, I guess that’s just how my whole life has played out. 😁

No, seriously... this happens to me more often than I’d care to admit—I think I might just be a magnet for bad luck. Next time it happens, I promise I'll walk you all through the messy chain of events. 👋

From what I can gather, I might actually be the most extreme case we've discussed so far. It’s just never arrived on schedule for me—though, to be fair, it’s also never been absent 🤣
I suspect that beyond just this specific physiological sensitivity to psycho-physical shifts, genetics likely play a massive role too. My mother deals with the exact same thing; her cycle didn't even become regular until she hit 40 🤣

Honestly, thank God for modern medicine and birth control pills.
Period and Menstrual Cycle Talk in Women's Health ·
I’ve finally started taking birth control pills... so I’m on a regular 28-day cycle now.
Honestly, things were becoming a total disaster before this, which is exactly why I decided to go the pill route. My cycle was all over the place; I’d skip an entire month without fail, or my period would show up two or three weeks late. There were even times when it wouldn't arrive for two or three months at a time.
And once, I actually went six whole months without anything happening.
I was genuinely terrified that I might be infertile or dealing with some kind of horrible underlying issue, but it turns out that wasn't the problem. It seems my body is just incredibly sensitive—even the slightest bit of stress or a minor shift in what I’m eating can throw everything off. For instance, if I don't eat quite as well for just two days, I won't get my period that month.

It was just awful.😁

Oh, please, don't go scaring her—it definitely isn't a kidney issue 😉

It’s more likely the intestines... I deal with similar issues from time to time myself, though I usually just try to ignore them 😁

I’m having a bit of trouble here 😢 my profile picture finally shows up on the left side, but then there's this little white box right next to it in the bottom right corner that just says 62% and stays stuck there indefinitely...

You might want to look into some herbal teas—maybe lemon balm or valerian. You can pick them up easily at any CVS or Walgreens. The first one is usually around $3.00, while the second sits closer to 17 or 18 dollars. I find that sipping on one right before bed is quite lovely; the taste is pleasant and it really helps you unwind.
Personally, I like to combine my tea with Bonisan from a brand like Nature Made (it’s another herbal supplement you can grab over the counter without a prescription... just a blend of hops, valerian, and lemon balm. Since it's 100% plant-based, it's my preferred way to go 🙂)—it's what I reach for when I absolutely need to fall asleep quickly and ensure I get a decent amount of rest.
The packaging actually lists its specific uses:
- To help you fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper sleep
- For dealing with insomnia triggered by restlessness
- For general relaxation and calming down

Here it is... if you aren't facing a massive, clinical struggle with insomnia, this should do the trick for you. Plus, there's no real danger involved.
Since I’ll be driving my own car, I was wondering about a few things... I know people usually leave their vehicles down in the lower lots and then just walk or grab a shuttle into town—but does parking actually get difficult, or can you usually find a spot without much trouble? Or is it one of those situations where you just end up circling around until you find any available space?
That feeling of falling in your sleep? in Psychology ·
It’s exactly like Sean Richardson described... I find myself dealing with this same thing a few times every month. Honestly, I haven't been able to pin down the reason why it keeps happening.🙂
Honestly, I don't know why I would even bother traveling all that way just to sit around waiting for my cycle to finish up. I simply didn't have the luxury of time for that kind of delay. 😁 It was honestly taking such a toll on my body and making me feel completely run down. Besides, when I spoke with the specialists at the Mayo Clinic, they assured me that by the third day, I should be perfectly fine—as long as I followed those specific instructions regarding the bladder pressure I mentioned earlier...
Well, look... if you just let it flow naturally, the initial few seconds will likely include any menstrual blood, and after that, the rest of the urine should come out looking perfectly normal.
I’ve done it countless times myself, and I’ve never had a single issue.
It honestly doesn't matter where you are in your cycle! I can't quite wrap my head around those concerns... whether it's day three or day four, you should be able to go without any issues at all. Even if there happens to be a little bit of menstrual blood mixed in with your urine, it really isn't a big deal either.
