Thoughts on dairy consumption? in Health ·
feralbadger8 said:So, this Mercola guy of yours is claiming:

'It is equally important to consider that reduced-fat, low-fat, or fat-free versions of milk are virtually void of metabolically beneficial vitamin D and calcium.'

Apparently, I’ve been totally clueless about how they make low-fat milk all this time?! Someone please walk me through this logic here.

Look, calcium levels in milk don't actually care about the fat content. And milk isn't some natural powerhouse of Vitamin D regardless of the fat percentage—that stuff is just added back in later. Real Vitamin D is found naturally in things like fish oils. What this guy is getting at is that the synthetic Vitamin D they dump into milk isn't doing much for us because it's basically 🙄. Honestly, the modern epidemic of rickets kind of backs up his theory 😁

Twings aren't bitter at all. They have that Green Tea Selection line in tea bags—lemon, orange, jasmine, you name it... Personally, I’m a big fan of the mint one. For the most part, they're just really light and refreshing, zero bitterness involved. You can pick them up pretty much anywhere.

MaxB said:I hope we aren't splitting hairs here—when people talk about carbs, they usually mean the "bad" kind, like sugar and starch. That’s why things like potatoes, pasta, or bread get lumped into the carb category, while a salad isn't even considered one since it's mostly cellulose that our bodies can't even process.

I'm just throwing this out there as a side note regarding jadesailor14, who was eating peas—which, newsflash, contain both starch and sugar—yet claims she wasn't eating any carbs because, in her mind, carbs only count if they're potatoes or pasta.
Honestly, this whole crusade against carbohydrates is getting on my nerves.
Anyway, back to the point: high cholesterol runs in my family. My aunts are thin and barely eat anything, yet their levels just keep climbing as they get older.
jadesailor14 said:People have been circling this whole "UN diet" thing for ages—you know, the one where they claim veggies aren't carbs unless they're potatoes, beans, or peas. There’s always this endless debate about whether things like carrots or green beans actually count as high-carb veggies or if they’re exempt.

Give me a break!
Carbohydrates are pretty much everywhere in the biosphere. I mean, almost all vegetables are primarily made of carbs (remember photosynthesis from middle school? No? Well, it’s a thing), so there really isn't an argument to be had here. As far as I'm concerned, chemistry is still an exact science, regardless of what some trendy diet claims.
The UN diet, "high-carb" vegetables... honestly, I don't buy 🤣
jadesailor14 said:Look, I get it. Totally.
It wasn’t exactly a "0% chance" situation either. I just didn't feel like typing out a whole laundry list like "no potatoes, no bread, no rice..."
But hey, I still ended up avoiding them in the end.
Anyone who spends half their life reading or writing stuff here probably already caught onto that.

Alright, sorry, but I'm still lost.
What's actually the difference between, say, the carbs in a potato versus the carbs in some peas? (Other than the concentration, obviously.)
jadesailor14 said:Had zucchini moussaka for lunch today. Tomorrow’s plan is sautéed peas, carrots, green beans, and some white meat chicken. Zero carbs.

Zero percent, huh?
I don't think you quite have the math down on those carbs, do you? 😁

Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
Take this link from that Harni Clinic over in Vrapčic. Look at the last sentence: "From a psychological standpoint, the general internal conflict regarding growing up—and specifically the onset of a first period as a sign of maturing into a young woman—are precisely the factors that increase stress during the already high-pressure puberty phase, which is blamed for the development of functional dysmenorrhea."

I have to say, it feels a bit bizarre how everyone is so quick to swallow every other possible cause—even the idea that there might not be a cause at all—yet they treat anything psychological like it’s some sci-fi trope or an Oprah-meets-Dr. Phil invention. It’s like people act as if mental functions aren't actually a part of who we are.

Melissa Cruz2 said:So, here’s my take on that whole explanation regarding how refusing to accept femininity acts as the catalyst for pain at the edge of a sci-fi novel. It’s a lot to unpack, really. It’s like when you’re trying to fix a vintage Mustang but you keep ignoring the fact that the fuel pump is shot because you’re too busy polishing the chrome—you're focusing on the surface while the actual engine of the story is seizing up. You can talk about space travel and laser beams all you want, but if the core tension is this fundamental rejection of what it means to be feminine, that’s where the friction starts. That’s where the heat comes from. It’s that specific kind of ache that happens when a character—or even the narrative itself—tries to bypass a core truth just to stay "efficient" or "logical." It doesn't work. It just creates this jagged, uncomfortable edge that cuts right through the plot.
Then we basically just let the "creator" go completely off the rails during the whole process. It was a total mess.

Psychosomatic issues aren't some sci-fi plot point. It’s not like you're watching a movie where someone suddenly turns into a robot or starts floating. It's real life. You're stressed out about your mortgage or that nightmare boss at your office in Chicago, and suddenly your stomach is doing backflips or your head feels like it's being squeezed by a hydraulic press. It's just the brain playing tricks on the body. Not fiction. Just biology being annoying.
Terry Ramos60 said:I feel like I’m getting way too close to that whole Oprah-meets-Dr. Phil vibe—you know, that constant urge to over-analyze and "psychologize" absolutely everything in modern society. It's everywhere now.

Just because you can pinpoint the psychological root of something doesn't mean you're making light of it. It’s not the same thing as trivializing the issue. Understanding why someone acts like a total wreck—say, because they grew up in a house that felt more like a high-stakes courtroom than a home—isn't an excuse for them to be a jerk to everyone at the local Starbucks. You're just explaining the mechanics of the breakdown, not saying the damage isn't real.

Kenneth Hernandez67 said:For the vast majority of women dealing with dysmenorrhea, there isn't any actual physical evidence to explain why it hurts so much. It’s more like looking for a broken wire in a house where nothing is actually short-circuiting. Most experts suggest the real issue is psychological—basically, these girls and women are struggling with a fundamental inability to embrace their own femininity. It's less about biology and more about an internal disconnect.

Even if this theory looks like a total reach at first glance, I honestly think it holds water in a ton of situations—pretty much exactly like you were saying.
It’s funny how we work. So many women don't actually see menstruation as just... part of being alive. You know, like breathing or needing to eat? Instead of seeing it as a basic sign of health—a literal cycle of life—it gets treated like some kind of internal glitch or a disease state that needs to be fought off. It's like if people treated having a heartbeat like an autoimmune disorder they had to manage with aggressive intervention. We've turned a fundamental biological rhythm into this constant, negative battleground.

Kenneth Hernandez67 said:I’m only going to say this once, Josh—the absolute first and most important step is to rule out whatever physical cause is actually triggering the pain. Seriously. Go see a gynecologist.

I'm with you on that.
There’s nothing quite like blindly swallowing pills. It’s just the worst. Honestly, it feels less like taking medicine and more like playing Russian roulette with your digestive tract, only without the thrill of the gamble. You’re just standing there in your kitchen, staring at a little white disc, wondering if it’s actually going to fix your headache or if it's just going to give you heartburn for the next six hours. It’s such a mindless, clunky way to deal with health. Just gulping down chemicals like you're trying to win a speed-eating contest. Total drag.

Brenda Allen27 said:Look, don't get mad at me, but I'll take a soft taco over those overpriced, greasy hole-in-the-wall joints any day of the week.

Look, it’s the same old story with everything else—it all comes down to overdoing it. If we’re actually talking about health here, let’s be real: half the stuff we consume on a daily basis isn't even remotely healthy.

So, I was thinking about that guy who spent an entire month eating nothing but McDonald's—just pure burgers, day in and day out. It makes you wonder, right? Like, why go full tilt on the greasy stuff? Why didn't he just stick to the salads, maybe grab some fries once in a while, throw in a toasted sandwich here and there, and just wash it all down with water? If you're going to do a stunt like that, wouldn't a slightly less suicidal approach make more sense?

Nah, the whole point was supposed to be proving that those soft sandwiches were actually total garbage.

I’ve been sitting here wondering... what kind of food could you actually eat every single day—just that one thing, nothing else—without your health absolutely tanking? Like, if you were stuck in a loop and had to pick one meal to survive on indefinitely without ending up in a hospital bed, what would it be?

Let's be real, McDonald's is basically just a massive pile of junk food loaded with saturated fats, trans fats, sugar, and salt, while being completely empty when it comes to actual vitamins or fiber. If you don't believe me, just go look up the nutritional info on their website. It's all right there. I can't even begin to wrap my head around how people manage to navigate this digital wasteland without losing their minds. It’s like trying to find a specific needle in a haystack, but the haystack is made of broken links and outdated info. Honestly, just scrolling through these endless feeds feels like wandering aimlessly through a massive, poorly lit Costco at 2 AM. You think you're looking for one thing, and suddenly you've spent forty minutes staring at a display of bulk granola bars you didn't even want. Just a total mess..
So, those fries? They’re basically deep-fried in a cocktail of beef tallow and some kind of hardened vegetable oil packed with trans fats. And honestly, that stuff is way more sketchy than just eating straight animal fat. It's like choosing a slow burn over a quick one.
The exact same thing goes for that chicken.
If only things were actually decent for once. 🙄 Everything just smells like plastic lately. It’s everywhere. 👎
Look, I get it. Most stuff we eat these days is total garbage, and honestly, stressing over every single calorie isn't worth the headache. But man, McDonald's? That's a whole different level of bottom-tier trash. You just have to look at some of these Americans who basically live off that stuff every single day to see what I mean.

I’ve been hitting the elliptical for a month and a half now, thirty minutes every other day, and honestly? I’m seeing zero difference. I get it, it hasn't been that long, but everyone else swears it works wonders.

I did 45 minutes every single day, gradually cranking up the resistance. I’d basically "drive" forward until I was wiped out, then switch to five minutes of reverse, then back to forward again... After about four months of staying consistent (well, mostly, I skip a day here and there), my glutes feel way, way firmer 😁. Just give it a little more time; I'm pretty sure you'll start noticing changes soon 😉.

Though, if you ask me, nothing beats rollerblading for shaping things up. Between that and hiking, it’s easily my favorite way to stay active—it's just a blast.
The StairMaster is also solid if you're feeling like hitting the gym during the summer.
Anyway, I'm off to go roll through Central Park before the crowds show up.👋
